These days it's not too bad. Trouble only really flairs up during Riot Season (early summer) with the occasional shooting or bomb disposal event throughout the year. You're basically right, the worst states for guns are probably California and New York. Also full giggle weapons can't be imported or produced, (what we have is what we get) and there's some extra taxes regarding short barrel rifles/shotguns and suppressors.
