The Savage axis and other entry level rifles won't do you much good. For hunting you really should get a Tikka at least. Stay away from those cheap Nikon scopes and at least get a Vortex. Milsurp open sight rifles are no good for hunting because.. uuh uuhhehhh.....

It's not uncommon for someone to be stabbed hundreds of times in an encounter. Adrenaline and physical proximity, coupled with the fact that 99.9% of the time you're going to be on the ground within half a second of this "fight" means that you don't have a prayer if the other person actually intends to kill you.

I dealt with at least a hundred gunshot calls, and only ever had 9 deaths and that was because they'd been shot in the head or the heart, I've had guys who'd been shot 18 times in the chest go on to live, and yet another guy who got stabbed in the gut once or twice would die in excruciating pain

The major factor in lethality of penetrating trauma is placement. I think stab wounds tend to cause problems more often because they're inherently easier to place wounds in danger zones, but when comparing identical placement of high-energy trauma and low-energy trauma, high-energy will always cause more damage tot he underlying structures.
