most dogs are built to take down much larger prey. I don't think most people realize how violent dogs can get. I've got a dog that gets attacked a lot, so I've seen a lot of dog fights. They're shockingly vicious. Dogs are incredibly fast, and they go into this weird berserker mode where anything that touches them gets the fangs. Until you've seen it up close, I don't think you can understand. It's truly terrifying.

I made the mistake of trying to separate my 100lb malamute from a 110lb german shepherd a few years back. My hand was at my dog's collar for only an instant, and it came back with a hole in it. I still have the scar as a reminder to keep my hands out of a fucking dog fight.

Both dogs wound up fine after a minute of fighting. After less than one second, I had a hole in my hand that took a month to heal. Yeah, maybe I could grapple a dog and hold it still while I choke it. I may be able to grab it's legs and break them. I may be able to bend it's neck or even snap it. But I'd have to be 100% committed to killing it.

When I was training my malamute, I had to hold him down a lot. He'd get rebellious and steal something and refuse to let it go. There were times that I was holding him down on the ground, and I realized that A) it's very hard to keep him under control, and B) if he wriggles loose I am completely fucked. An enraged dog under your body is fucking scary. The sounds they make, the faces they make, oosh.

I'd give myself about a 20% chance to beat a dog over 60lbs.
