Went shooting and ufo watching last night inna desert with night vision. Holy. Fuck. I need night vision goggles asap. Once it got dark other groups turned on truck lights and kept shooting. We started having a game seeing how close you could get with out strangers catching you. Being able to creep 10 feet away from groups that were oblivious to your presence was incredible.

the gameplay is similar, not the setting. though you could argue that the animals in farcry are mutated, considering a bengal tiger can take over 10 rounds of 5.56 to the face. another thing in common metro has with farcry is that it feels like you're playing a movie.

Ok guys I have had the longest fucking memorial day weekend. I decided to go hiking cuz 4 days off work. I lost almost all my gear and my dignity, so here it goes.

>come back from finding spot to see that my tent is unzipped
>my pillow cover is gone

These rifles were engineered like their primary purpose was safeguarding them from the activities of inbred conscripts rather than killing enemies of the Soviet Union. When shopping for STALKER gear keep one thing in mind: STALKERs have got to do with whatever gear finds itself into the Zone, which is located in bumfuck Ukraine. You can probably imagine this filters out most of the expensive and high tech stuff and leaves mostly stuff that is cheap, old and/or plentiful.

Now, go to that surplus store and get yourself some clothing. So at least pair of pants, boots, a shirt and a jacket, preferably with a hood. Only get stuff that is olive drab, khaky, tan or (eastern) european looking camo. Wether the patterns match doesn't matter. The more rugged and/or well used your stuff looks the better.
Get a mess kit because a STALKER's gotta eat too.
Get a simple webbing system and a backpack.

Went and scouted a possible location last weekend. Without harnesses the bridge is a bust, but some near by abandoned buildings hold promise..

The guys who did the underground labs in Shadow of Chernobyl did Mtero 2033 and it shows. It's very linear but with top notch action and atmosphere.

There are some problems with this though. There are only two places to buy gas mask filters, and both are early game where you don't have a lot of cash. This means that later in the game, your filters will always be in the red and you'll sound like a dying Darth Vader.

Also the level where you fight the blobs in the secret lab is probably the worst level I've ever played. Good gane though. Don't even bother with Redux or Last Light.

The design of the character and especially the models is just not as good in redux, demons went from giant mutant bat creatures to big scaley dragons, nosalises went from shrew/mole looking mutants to weird skinless faced monsters, Librarians no longer have those huge lips that pull up over their nostrils and instead just have no skin on their faces, all the new combat outfits are stupidly bulky, etc.
I'm just not a big fan of the redesign.

I see some of what you mean in terms of the character models. But a lot of it has to do with the lighting in the game as well. It is a lot better in Redux, and that gives a better view of the textures for better or for worse.
