Hey /k/, new2gunz here. Can we get an optics thread going?
If I'm shooting for sport/hobby what's the minimum I should spend on a red dot sight (basic bitch AR)? Just feel sort of lost with options ranging from $30 to $3000. Obviously if like best MOA or accuracy or whatever but am honestly a bit overwhelmed. Help a newfag out?
Also, optics general for discussion of sights and scopes your hard kore /k/ommandos are salivating over n such

Depends how far you are shooting, what gun it's mounted on, how good or bad your eyes are, shooting environment (such as inside a range or outside shooting and climate) durability and battery life.
I have an EOTech on my ak, and it works just fine. However I basically only shoot indoors at a 100 yards max, and my eyeballs aren't too great. I've unintentionally dropped my whole optic rail on a cement floor and it stayed zeroed.

I'd say aimpoint is a pretty safe choice for red dots. If you have astigmatism holographic sights might appear fuzzy or "star bursty".

Also its best to throw more money at ammo, and use irons than getting a red dot.

Also for MOA, 1 or 2 are probably the best but again like I said it depends on what you are doing. Scopes should be 1 moa or less if possible with 1/4 to 1/2 MOA adjustment knobs.
I really like my Redfield and they aren't too expensive.

Try holosun I have one on my ar and runs great
>>
>>34097751
Shooting ~100 yards, tho I am working on improving range skillz so something that could could go beyond would be cool too (or would I use a magnifier thingy like anon has in a pic related itt?)
Great eyesight
Will be outside, temperate environment
S&W M&P15, 5.56

And I would prefer 1 MOA

This is probably the best magnified good AR optic for the price. Plus Vortex is a really good company to work with. You should be able to buy one for 350.
>>
>>34098266
I'd have to agree that as a brand vortex is the best quality for price.

However, in the red dot world the Bushnell is seen as THE entry level red dot, cost effective, and quality enough to consistently win three gun competitions.

You mean the holosun?
>>
>>34097631
Can you shoot well with your irons?

Aimpoint is a meme

>>34098214
How about you improve on your spelling skills first. I only use an optic because I cannot see the target at 100 yards. It becomes a white fuzzy blotchy mess with my glasses on. Again like I said it's better off spending more money on ammo than an optics. Plus irons are fun too.
>>
>>34098214
If you want some magnification, Primary Arms makes some good lower-mid tier optics. The 5x Prism is nice if you want a fixed magnification, and their 4-15x44 mm for variable. Neither is really high quality, but they'll take you out to 300-500 yards and both are sub $300.

If you want better quality glass, I'd recommend looking at Vortex. But if all you have is an M&P15, I wouldn't bother getting anything over a few hundred dollars.

Does anyone here have experience with kalinka optics???

>spending more money on ammo than an optics.
It's like the pot calling the kettle a nigger.
>>
>>34097631
You can get a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot and mount for about $70 online. It will stand up to all the abuse you're likely to put on your entry-level AR.

If you're not going to use it regularly for anything besides shooting paper at 100 yards or less, it's your most cost-effective option. Get a Vortex Strike Eagle or Primary Arms 1-6 if you want to spend a couple hundred for variable zoom.
>>
>>34100865
I'm assuming OP is new to guns, and they would get more out of shooting more frequently with just irons alone. And yes you will spend more money on ammo over optics since you have to replenish it on a regular basis.
Optics are secondary unless you're hunting and for competition maybe.
>>
>>34100971
>improve on your spelling skills

You don't even know what the pot-and-kettle insult meant. Kill yourself, preferably before you have the urge to post again.

Vortex sparc II, comes with a mount and are pretty hard to kill. If you do manage to kill it, you can always send it back no questions asked and get it fixed or replaced, even if you aren't the original owner. I'd say start with that, then figure out what you want to drop $400-2000 into.

If you want a variable power optic (1-4x, 1-6x, or 1-8x) vortex, primary arms, and steiner all have good ones from $3-400.
>>
>>34097631
Does anyone here have experience with ATN's X-Sight II? It looks like a pretty good deal on the surface, especially at $500.
>>
i got a trs-25 and a leapers 3x magnifier

So if I was looking for a good value red dot for my Mini-14 (I live in a cuck state), what would be the best thing to get? The Mini is my SHTF rifle, so is there any such thing as a solar powered red dot that doesn't rely on batteries that need to be replaced?

Oh no! I put 'an' on accident instead of 'on'. Meanwhile OP is using 'tho' and 'skillz' like some kinda underage faggot. Maybe you should actually own some guns first, instead of shit posting all day.
>>
>>34100971
Op here.
I'm /fairly/ new. Ive put about 1000 rounds down range with my M&P alone (have a bolt gun and 1911 too) and actually just ordered another 1000 rounds in addition to having some ~600 still stocked up so I think I'm okay in terms of ammo. It's nice to hear that I don't have drop $666+ on an optic tho, I was really skeptical of those lower priced ones but seeing as y'all think they're okay for basic range use I feel much better about it! I may spend a lot on gun shit but I sure ain't a rich fag so I'd be pretty upset if I dropped ~$100 on a red dot and it fell apart on me. But you are saying I should avoid chink shit like the holosun
>>
>>34101395
That wasn't me (OP) that called you out on that btw. That's how I talk desu, I'm 22 n queer so you'll just have to deal, mmmkay?
>>
>>34101387
Vortex and burris offer decent quality for their price point. Holosun has lots of solar sights, but I haven't personally tried them.
>>34101395
I'm not a neet like you, so I'm stuck at work. I'll snap a pic when I get home. And it's pretty fagotty to get upset about someone's spelling on 4chan, doubly so if you don't have the presence of mind to read what you're writing.
>>
>People suggesting Burris and Vortex dots for budgetfags, not PA or Holosun
Blind leading the blind, this thread
>>
>>34101387
Actually yes but I can only think of trijicon ACOGs, Reflex and STD. ACOGs I think use either tritium and fiber optic cable, or batteries and fiber optic. Reflex uses tritium and fiber optic. And SRS uses both solar power and a battery.
Reflex is cheaper of the two and uses no batteries but it's 4.5 to 6.5 moa. I've never personally used any of them either so I can't really give you any other useful information.
>>
>>34101387
Holosun makes some solar powered sights. They use solar when its available and battery when its not and the battery is rated for 50k hours (~5 yeas of on time). The solar panel is also used for adjusting dot intensity.

Due to the very long battery life I actually went with the battery powered version instead just because I liked the motion activation feature, for some reason its missing on the solar versions. Not that having to press a button to wake it up in the dark is a huge problem but I figure it just being on was nicer. And saves like $40.

New to guns as well here. Just curious as to why reflex sights seem to not to be very popular here.

Ones not necessarily this one but similar in design.

Because it's usually a chink shit. Even if it's not, it's a shitty design that protects nothing on the optic.

Just came in to say don't discount chinesium scopes. I have three (4x10, 3-9x40, 9-24x50) and so far they haven't disappointed. They even glow for some reason. I plan on getting a holo next.
