Well the falchion is going to be thicker for much of its length and will likely have more metal behind the edge at any given point. The falchion will also be harder, machetes are generally quite soft. T B H I'm not sure exactly what you're asking me, is it a question of sharpness? Because machete sharpness depends on the user but they always have at least a decent edge and since they're usually thin even a decent edge cuts well on a nice machete, falchions are cutting weapons and would've ideally been kept sharp as hell.

For a standard latin machete you're likely going to be looking at what's labeled as a compound grind in your pic, much of the blade will be flat due to being thin stamped steel and the edge will consist of a primary bevel leading to a second bevel. I have a machete that I turned into a scandi grind (what's labeled as flat in your pic) but that's not something you usually see on machetes.

Falchions could come in just about any flavor and it would depend on the cross section of the blade.

Convex is generally regarded as the best mix of sharpness & durability but it's kind of a pain in the ass to make & maintain a convex edge. You can use varying degrees of sandpaper and a mousepad but maybe get something cheap to practice on because you'll probably fuck up the first blade you try, everyone does.

Colombian method: Learn to fight with a stick of comparable length and focus on footwork, blocks, and slashes. With a stick, you don't have to worry about cutting yourself, and in general, you learn how to fight with improvised weapons.

With the machete itself, use it for its intended agricultural purposes and get used to the way it handles and cuts. Get good at it by using it for any cutting job that requires a blade, everything from cutting tree branches to edge trimming the lawn. Use it with a garabato stick (sickle stick?) to gather vegetation into a cuttable mass, googling shows some bullshit voodoo sticks for sale, just make one out of a tree branch. By getting used to handling, you only need to learn the footwork in order to learn how to fight, as you will have committed the chopping motions to muscle memory.
