Yup you read that right. Luckygunner did a comprehensive study on .38 special and .357 Magnum and found .38 to be weak as fuck(no surprise), but what stuck out to me was how during these ballistic tests the 9mm fired from a compact pistol has the same ballistic properties as a .357 from a 4 inch barrel. Now before everyone wants to shoot me for even saying that I ask that you first watch the video or look at the chart before coming to a conclusion. I am just as surprised and confused as ever at old 9mm. Here's the video-

150gr micro HST wassdat sheit
>>
>>34096348
Semi-autos are closed environments, and thus 9mm retains its energy and velocity much better

.357, even out of a 4" barrel, still has to deal with cylinder gap
>>
>>34096360
Ha, I was thinking the same thing.
>>
>>34096348
Keep in mind that clear ballistic gel is also shit.
TNoutdoors9 I believe said the stuff is very inconsistent. So unless it is real ballistic gel, be skeptical.
>>
>>34096403
True, the gel isn't an end all be all test. It is a controlled medium where every caliber gets the same shot so there's less inconsistencies. Also the velocity was recorded with a chronograph so theres that.
>>
>using fake plastic knockoff clear ballistics gel instead of refrigerated animal gel like FBI and the military and Shootingthebull410
>gel block temperature wasn't recorded for each battery of shots
>BB calibration data not recorded

Luckygunner learned nothing from their shitty previous tests.
>>
>>34096390
yeah, for this to be a fair comparison he should've used a .357 rifle

Really? So because they didn't shoot a bb into the gel or say what temperature it was the whole test was useless? C'mon, surely you can at least acknowledge that this test shows some merit even though they didn't follow the FBI's specifications to the letter.
>>
bullshit deez niggas aint survivin no fuckin 357 to the chest mah nigga 9mm aint no joke either but blast a nigga with a magnum and he goin down
>>
>>34097474
Do what now?
>>
>>34097438
It calls the consistency of the gel block and the repeatability of the results into question.

It's anecdotal and unscientific. To present it as any sort of evidence is foolish.

>>34096394
Federal put out an 9mm 150gr HST round specifically designed for subcompact pistols. Purportedly has less muzzle flash and recoil vs their 124 and 147 HST while having enough velocity to reliably expand. I got bored and chroned 5 rounds of them through a Ruger LC9s, all around 800fps.
>>
>>34096979
Or a 9mm revolver.
>>
who cares. revolvers are obsolete and any marginal benefit .357 has is outweighed by ONLY 6-7 rounds vs. like 17 in a modern 9mm pistol.

Why so slow? I mean is they're any benefit to a 9mm only going 800 fps? I mean it's not a 45.
>>34097564
Well that's just like your opinion man....
>>
For what it's worth, the Hornady LE website doesn't show much difference in bare gel between .357 Mag, .357 Sig, and boring old 9mm, all in 135gr bullet weights.

> .357 Mag has 14" penetration
> .357 Sig has 14"
> 9mm has 15"

The only reason I can determine is that their 357 Mag barrel was only 4.2" compared to 4.5" on the other guns, so velocity was only 1300fps for the .357 mag. Maximum cavity was much larger on the .357 Mag though.

Everyone knows. 357 is best out of a 6 inch barrel for handguns.

That being said my .357 5 inch barreled revolver shoots 125g projectiles at 1600fps

I don't think a single 9mm neither in compact or 6 inch can do that
>>
>>34096348
now shoot both of them out of an 18 inch barrel
>>
>>34099944
>Why so slow?
It's a 150gr 9mm pill coming out of a ~3in barrel, what the fuck do you expect?
