Recently saw this movie for the first time, and my god does was it insane. The I've seen bits of the shootout before and had no idea it was filmed 22 years ago.

Sorry guy, but
Ronin doesn't come close.
It's better.
Ronin is the best action movie
ever made.
It's got thriller elements from the plotting and planning, suspense, espionage, best car chase scenes- it's not an action movie without car chase scenes!! it doesn't have a bunch of shitty unstable camera work and edits to disguise poor choreography. it has the classic action movie trope -- I'm shot you have to dig the bullet out[ then they're back to fighting in a few minutes lol[ the gun scenes arn't a bunch of guys lining up to catch bullets.
Master piece of a movie.
Real Gem.

they got him because of that hand chip thing. That technology is very real and is how they will control our lives in 20-30 years, somehow this dude knew that they were going to eventually tie economic transactions to this hand chip thing. That's why we're seeing cash being phased out of economies (pennies being axed, currencies depreciated so carrying enough money is hard, contactless debit cards, that town in south korea which is a testing ground for no cash transactions)

it's coming and it is the mark of the beast as described in revelation - a mark upon the back of the hand.

Agree with the other guy on Blood Diamond. It's a very good movie, and I love to meme about it on /tv/, but as far as /k/-core goes, it just can't compete with things like Black Hawk Down or something.

I'll give it credit for the non-violent /k/ scenes though. Scenes like when Archer meets up with his old warlord partner and we find out he's living in this huge mansion with expensive dogs and vineyards and stuff, but in reality, there's nothing he loves more than getting down and dirty in boots, just like the good old days; like a wolf in gentleman's clothing. It was moments like those that make me love that movie for what it is.

Or the scene where Archer and Digimon Hanzo try to cover as much ground between them and the mercenary camp as possible and Archer's laying down all these ground rules and Digimon's just like "woah, okay", because in the story, Archer's long retired from his military days, but we see that he's still retained that intimidating military intellect even after years of drug and alcohol abuse and it's only manifested now that they really need to hit the shit.

Actually, I change my mind. Fug that other anon, Blood Diamond is pure /k/ino.

I recently had the pleasure of re-watching this movie on a system that's been built over many years by a VERY dedicated home theater buff, and the sound for the shootout was absolutely unmatched by anything else I've seen.

The sound has always been my favorite part of that scene. The shift in volume and tone as the camera cuts to different distances relative to sound sources, the echoing in the cavern of the streets, the sense that the guns are actually LOUD and difficult to hear over. Man, it's perfect.

It's also great because its not filmed in the super sanitized fashion that movies seem to lean towards nowadays. People are running past the camera in front of other shots, not everyone is always in perfect focus, events continue to unfold in the background even if the camera is not always tracking each individual participant, people mount their guns and move without being sure their face is perfectly visible for the camera, etc. It's amazing that it's so perfect when it's main strength is that it's properly conveying chaos.
>>
>>34096059
Goddamn. Just saw it?
One of the best ever.
When they went to production they originally had used gun sounds from whatever the fuck they get sounds from. Said it just wasn't like when they filmed it.
The shooting you hear is from when they actually filmed it.
Underrated part is where Sizemore looks at Pacino.
If you've ever gone hunting its the same look that a deer gives you when it knows that it's fucked.
Amazing scene.
The only scene I like anywhere near as much is the badass shootout in Children of Men.
>>
>>34100115
Wasn't the guy in that movie doing it because he had aids and was going to die anyway?
>>
>>34103163
Common and believable fan-theory, but mine is that his HIV/AIDS was what was actually making him self-destructive and suicidal in the first place (beside his obvious self-hatred and his PTSD and shieeet). He only really started fighting for his and that black guy's life when he thought the stone could take him out of Africa and help him live the rest of his life in relative comfort, but ends up sacrificing himself in the end (sacrifice being different from suicide), when he realizes life is valuable...and stuff...

You know how directors who haven't really used guns before sometimes make their characters do impossible things with their weapons, like always outshooting the bad guys even though they're outnumbered 10 to 1, or getting consistent headshots all the goddamn time because "lol, headshots look awwsum"?

In this scene, did the director KNOW how insanely risky it would be to try to take that last shot with the guy carrying the child as a hostage, but he filmed the scene anyway implying he would be willing to do anything at this point just to get the carnage to stop? Or did he literally think real life was like in the movies where the good guys are crackshots at everything and getting a headshot like that would have been no problem? Cause it honestly seems super out of character that he would have taken a shot so fucking risky.

>>34105281
You know what. That kind of stuff really does bother me about movies. When they do things proficiently correct, but get over the top better than real results. It really misleads people that don't know better but see it. It's a stupid ploy to sell it as realistic and misleads people that don't really have any exposure to that kind of stuff. I really think that kind of shit is fucking up society especially when it comes to weapons. If it's just all over the top stuff like a comic book or something that's entirely different though.

Yeah I suppose it does make it entertaining. I really like that film even though everybody is a prick, I just thought that peculiar. I have a hard time not watching that movie if it's available. Was made in a different time though if it had came out in the last 10 years it would of seemed totally out there for a plot to the point it wouldn't make any sense. Kind of cool though a lot of movies tend to follow bad guys while trying to portray them as normal I like how this one they pretty much knew they were pieces of shit, they just stumbled into a fight with other pieces of shit.

I just thought it from the one scene. Been a few years since I watched it but I think it was when he was talking to someone it sounded like he was saying there was no cure for what he has, while they didn't outright say aids it seemed heavily implied in the area, and like he was living out a death sentence and his only hope was getting out and maybe finding some treatment to slow it down. Then it seemed like toward the end he just decided fuck it, no cure, I'll just do something selfless since we're not going to make it, and I'm not going to make it anyway. I would actually have to rewatch it to see why I thought that in the first place but it was the impression that stuck with me when I watched it.

When Ronin first came out I my McNab addled 15 year old brain couldn't process that Sean Bean's character was actually supposed to be a walt and I was absolutely livid with the film for portraying a SAS operator as an incompetent, cowardly hooligan who got done over by a cup of coffee. Nearly ruined the film for me.

I also didn't understand that DeNiro was supposed to be an active CIA infiltrator. I wasn't a smart kid, I guess.

Siege of Jadotville is bullshit UN propaganda. It leaves out an important detail: There were no UN casualties because the rebels were specifically trying to avoid any UN casualties. The rebels wanted to succeed from the Congo for legitimate reasons (Look at the Congolese government today if you want to understand why). The UN troops killed a few hundred black people to protect the entrenched Congolese federal government. The scene where the sniper shot the EVBIL WHITE MAN wearing the white suit was especially rich - the rebels should have done the moral thing and just allowed rich white men to pillage the country from the safety and comfort of Europe, which is exactly what happened when the rebels were defeated.

Correct analysis on the second point. What's of particular interest is how Hanna's life is crashing, falling apart and he is using coke and taking risks as he sees society is worthless. While McCauley is trying to make something, get out of the game, get a woman, has hope for a new life.

They converge, alter each other' fates.

I wrote up a longer reply about why I thought it seemed that the context was about fighting and stuff but seemed more like he was hiding something that would cause people to attack him and limit his actual travel capacity on regular airliners. If he wanted out, as a regular person. He could of just got a visa. Under scrutiny with a disease as an infectious person he'd have to almost seek alternative means to escape that place. Needing lots of money to slow down his condition. The scene I was remembering was talking about something else, but it seemed like an underlying fan theory sub plot kind of thing that he couldn't explicitly state. We all have that. It'd be much worse for someone in his condition. Probably more of a sub context plot that it seemed like they were dancing around on I picked up.

>Watch Generation Kill

Holy fuck, it's almost like somebody documented my life for 4 years straight and turned it into a mini series.

This series takes all the romance and glamor out of the idea of war and replaces it with the real life fuckery, eating cold and shitty food, taking shits in random places, watching complete retards be in charge of your life, and the absolute shit show called "Marine Corps logistics" and brings it to light. There is no movie or show more accurate than this.

An honorable mention would be "The Pacific" but I can't comment on being a Marine in the 40's. At the very least the logistics still sucked ass and they always thought they'd starve to death before Japs killed them. Which is still an accurate attitude to have in the Corps to this day.

Yes. It's really just a cruddy war movie. The vast majority of it is a bizarre and boring ambush/siege/waiting session around a stalled truck in the middle of nowhere. The seagal portions are limited, and mostly of him sitting in a dark room talking to an injured guy, because seagal is too fat to really do much anymore.

It's not even really "so bad it's funny". The webms you see are the only really entertaining parts.

>>34113422
I was really young when I saw it the first time it came out. I didn't really appreciate it since the pacing between the action shit was a lot of stuff, as I got older I actually started to like the in between stuff more than the actual action parts, although the action was pretty well done. Some of that though is since the filming style contrasts a lot compared to modern action scenes. It's kind of funny how beans character was a proper hooligan though, it really went over my head how it was sort of foreshadowing that he was the one setting up the arms deal and it got fucked up turning into a shootout, but he's all happy they got the guns for free while everyone else is pissed off about getting ambushed and almost killed. I think the most off putting thing to me when I first seen it was the traitor, he kind of looked like a nerd but even that was kind of a deceptive 'you can't underestimate people' kind of thing where even some goofy looking bastard can get clever and pull a fast one over on you.

Tagline of the movie was "Don't have anything in your life you can't walk away from in 20 seconds if you feel the heat around the corner." McCaully says it two times to two different characters.

Hanna might have been burning down, but he was willing to drop his marriage, leave his suicidal step daughter in the hospital, everything to chase after McCaully.

McCaully always assumed you couldn't have personal ties. Turned out he couldn't let go of his need for revenge on Waingrove.
