I have a conundrum. I'm very tempted to spend money I've earned on a part-time job while I pick up some credit hours over the summer on a blackhawk bisley hunter. As an enterprising young lad, if I'm going to own a .44 I might as well get one of those cheap single turret reloading things and making some handloads, which I could push fairly easily with a blackhawk. I also have a few homemade bullet casting tools just for various elemental metal experiments for fun, so attempting some crazy slug shapes and powder loadings is on my list of summer fun. Please help anons, this is my only source of happiness in life
Dunno who at ruger Ok'd this design. It looks neat but is probably a bitch to shoot
>my only source of happiness
Listen dude, bad times are not when you want to handload, or even go pistol shooting by yourself depending on how bad it is.
As a beginner, stick to the books and give it some time, make sure you feel alright and fully able to focus.
Also there is no shame in seeking therapy.

Wow this place has changed. Lemme preface with that being a bit of a joke. It's just I find target shooting really fun, and I find keeping track of stuff and running tests fun. I wanna see what I can push, elmer keith-style. Only with no cylinder detonations.
I could show up to the range dressed up as the joker with this thing
what is it that you're asking? What loads to do? you're not likely going to want to shoot cast lead very fast unless you gas check it. I think H110 is a good powder for hot 44 (I used it in my 500 as well).

Either slug design ideas or loads. I'm prepared to load gas checks. How many grains do you usually load? Also, any specific brands of brass you reccommend?
I've heard recoil on these is also a bitch
I wonder just what percentage of .44s have been resold as LNIB with a box of ammo missing 6 or less shots

I just don't want another /k/ommando blowing his hand off just because life is shit sometimes.
Last week I was in the middle of 9mm load development and the happiest man on earth with my new toy when out of the blue my long-term girlfriend I'd lived with broke up with me. Was (still am) devastated and had thoughts of suicide, making one last bullet for myself. Was afraid to go shooting alone. Maybe in a week or two I will go precision rifle shooting with friends again.

it's substantial but not as bad as you might think.
a box of 50 will hurt at the end though

Exactly this is just a "sideshow" utility project I kinda want to get into. Maybe bring a couple 6-round groups of handloads just to test and see what I'm pushin and where it's getting pushed to. I'd love to get an easy 100 yds out of a loading and I know a blackhawk can eat that shit for dinner

I've just done starline brass from HSM ammo. I put some 200gr XTP's over 6gr of trail boss for soft shooting ammo in my alum frame 44.
I'd look at matt's bullets for defensive and Missouri bullet company for plinking ammo
>>34095140
.22s are for plinking boyo. I'm wanting this for the complete other end. It's like when I cook I always use too many peppers in curry or gumbo or whatever. I like extremes sometimes
>>34094751
I don't like Ruger handguns. Smith and Wesson is better.
>>34095569
I'm aware, I just don't have the money for a nice smith
>>34095569
The main problem for me is the round barrels, if they made octagonal barrels it would fit the blocky aesthetic better.
>>34095569
Uh, ok. Good for you I guess.
Why are you in this thread again?
Jesus christ why are smithfags so autistic?
>>34094751
Don't cast indoors, do it outdoors with ample ventilation and take reasonable precautions against lead vapor and dust exposure.
My redneckbros wife had to get chelation therapy to remove lead from her system because her idiot father cast large volumes of bullets indoors. Shit's no joke.

I'm aware. Thankfully they teach us that shit in those freshman years of chemistry

If you don't mind the occasional tinkering with cylinder gap you can snag a .44 Mag Dan Wesson far cheaper than a Smith. The large frame Dan is an absolute brick shithouse of a revolver and you would have to severely abuse it to blow one up.
>>34094835
Its....not completely awful, but I dont run more than 5 cylinders through it in an outing thats for sure
>>34095921
I'm tempted to get one for ankle carry, how is it other than being a bit of a mule?
>>34095921
Whitebox winchester .44 magnum in that picture. The checkered grips hurt way worse than the recoil, but those have smoothed out now that I've ran 500 or so rounds through it
>>34095941
Heavy as fuck. Wouldn't recommend for ankle carry, no way.
>>34095941
Unless you are an elephant that is not going to ankle carry.

39 oz, unloaded.
