Hey /k/unts, I was hoping you could give me some advice on how best to achieve my career goals. I'm wanting to be a firearms instructor. Not just as a side gig to make some extra cash, but as a primary source of income. I feel like I've got a decent plan, but could use some advice.
I'm currently an 11B stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. I get out close to 2020, and in that time I plan on getting as much chest candy and training courses in as possible. Figure the more shit I do while I'm in the better I look as an instructor. I also plan on taking advantage of all of the (very limited) private training options available on this island, and going ahead to start teaching some classes myself. I'm certified as an NRA pistol instructor, so I have done credentials to back me up. I was thinking of even starting a YouTube channel giving training tips and shit. I know it's not exactly original, but anything to build a bit of a name for myself.
After I get out, I plan on moving to a much more gun friendly area and getting a job as an LEO. Want to also buy a small plot of land to build my own range to teach on.
In addition, my uncle and cousin are big name sports trainers, that have trained hundreds of pros. When I get close to ending my service, I plan on talking to them about a possible business team up.
So, what are your thoughts? How can I improve on my plan? What would be some good states look into moving when I ETS?

>lie about being a tier 0 special forces black ops super soldier

Face the facts anon nobody wants to learn from non-operators.

If this guy can fake being force recon for 15+ years then you can do it too

Thanks for the support, but I was hoping for some actual advice/ criticisms.

Yeah, being exposed as a fraud doesn't seem like it'll help me feed my family.

If you're good enough at what you do I think you'll find people willing to take the classes, but having more courses is always a better idea. Anything that would pertain to real stuff you can use, not specialist shit like parachuting or mountaineering.

There's honestly not that much awards and certs that directly involve guns though. I've already got 3 expert qualifications, figured I might as well get as much stuff to show off as I can, while I can.

Well yeah, getting any kind of medal or ribbon is a great plus. People love flashy shit like that.
Really I can't help that much because I'm set to be a POG in my country's reserves soon (unless they take my LARPing on /pol/ as a national security threat) so I don't know much about what you can earn to show off.
I'd love to take the classes sometime soon though.

Also out of curiosity will your training be in gun handling or will it be other fireteam-based things as well? That would make a big difference between what you'd need.

I'll tell you that there's an opportunity in the more "casual" firearms instruction market. Way too many instructors want to be as tacticool as possible and end up driving away a lot of potential customers. If you market yourself as a normal guy willing to teach beginners without the stress and judgement that a lot of instructors present, you'll have people signing up quickly. Of course this would also allow you to teach more advanced classes to the more hardcore students, i.e. other .mils and LEOs as well as the mall ninja types. If you can provide a calm, relaxed environment for new shooters where they don't have to worry about a drill sergeant-tier guy yelling at them on the range, you'll have a decent segment of shooters wanting to take your classes. Other than that, I would say watch out for market saturation because as you already stated in your OP, there are a billion and a half "gun experts" already flooding the market with shitty classes and videos. Find a demographic you think is disenfranchised by the current shooting environment (college students, women, people with monotonous office jobs looking to do something interesting, etc) and make sure your classes are affordable for the average person who doesn't live and breathe guns. I'm assuming you've never been deployed to a war zone and seen combat, so don't worry about trying to come off as a hardass Navy SEAL with 300 confirmed kills. Use your certifications and background to your advantage though. What states are you willing to move to when you ETS? Heavily conservative states with an established shooting culture with be hard to set up a business in (AZ, AK, CO, TX, OK, UT, NV, FL, and most of the South). States like Oregon, Washington, mid-Atlantic states besides Maryland, and some Midwest states would have a good mix of firearms enthusiasts and traditions while still having a lot of people who want to learn about guns while not having 5 wannabe instructors for every potential customer.

Half off classes for all /k/ommandos.
>>34094881
Both.

I do have a generally chill and relaxed attitude to thing things. And I plan on starting off teaching beginners courses, and adding more advance options as I grow as an instructor.
As for the state, the main one I'm considering right now is Tennessee. I'm married, so I have to take into account the wife's needs too, and she's big on the music scene, wants to be a singer. Also want somewhere not to hot and not to cold.

You know, speaking of demographic, there is one I'd be interested in. The geek. Not just the CoD kiddy, but real geeks, because that's what I am. The reason I got into most of my hobbies, including guns, is I wanted to do the shit the heroes in my books, games, and movies do. How would I market to the demographic though?
