These 2 are very different.
The FN is more refined.
The CZ has a shorter reset.
I like the FN better.
Thanks for reading my blog.

The FN has a bigger front sight that has more air around it and is easier to see/aim.

The mag release on the fn is more complicated but a lot smoother.

I took apart the cz polished the mag release, ultimately taking a jewelers file to the magazine is what made the mag release acceptable.

Here is a 10 round group from the CZ.
These were the best groups from each. On average I did about the same with either but the fn felt easier to aim.

Shooting semi-rapid, the cz does a hair better... maybe.

The grip texture is better on the fn.

Summary:

>cz uses Glock holsters (not all of them)
>fn is slightly better in all other ways

I have always liked the feel of the CZ when shooting, but I've never shot the FN. How does it compare solely on shooting feel?

they feel the same up and down but the fn feels more stable left to right. The thumb doesn't have a home and feels like a loose dangling thing when shooting the cz. You don't get that with the fn.
The cz might return to poa quicker though. I don't have enough time on them to say for certain.
>>
>>34089987
Regarding the thumb I mean when shooting one handed.

Can you release the slide equally well with either side of the ambi slide release lever on both guns?

Have you compared either to an APX?

Fn, yes both sides work fine.
Cz, yes both sides work the same but there is more resistance, especially before break-in.
The cz is unique. It stops the slide from the middle.

Fn is more traditional.
I think it is more refined.
The trigger on the cz is just sex, it's a really good trigger. The fn is a more refined gun over all.
>>
>>34090998
I have not compared to the APX. I handled an APX but felt the trigger was spongy.
>>
Can you describe the triggers? How smooth and far is the pretravel? Then, once you get to the breaking point, how crisp is the break?
>>
>>34091115
I take back my previous post. The CZ trigger is better because the super short reset and lack of over travel.
The FN trigger has a slightly rougher pre-travel (who cares?) and a cleaner break but the break is harder and so you don't notice the little bit of creep. The CZ if you shoot fast you'd say it's a much softer break with no creep but there is more creep in the CZ than the FN.

Good to know. Hickok45 had some issues with the FN getting the right side lever to release the slide.

I've no idea if this was a change from before it's becoming the 509 but the slide stop actuates on both sides.
So it shouldn't make a difference which side you push on.
>>
>>34091368
Some guns with ambi levers use sheet metal that's too thin and flexes too much, making the right side lever more of a slide lock only, rather than a functional ambi slide "release." I've never owned a handgun that had this problem, but I've seen it in review videos from different reviewers.
>>
>>34091387
Understood, I just meant that mechanically the gun is symmetrical in this regard.
>>
>>34089804
Has FN started making their frames from something other than Haribo gummy bears?
>>
The FN 509 looks interesting but I am worried FN will just release a newer striker fired polymer pistol in 3 years that again will not share magazines, holsters, or parts with the older models. If the 509 picks up a few big LEO or government contracts then I would be more inclined to look into FN pistols as then they'd be forced to continue pump out pistols and spare parts.
>>
>>34091419
That's a very fair point. I know they've invested a ton in advertising. They either are desperate to move these or sincerely think it's the best handgun that has ever been put on God's green earth.
They had radio advertisements for it. I can't remember the ever hearing a single other gun advert on the radio.
>>
>>34091408
If I squeeze the bottom of the magwell, I get about 1 maybe 2 millimeters more flex in the FN versus the CZ; no clue if it will squishy squishy but doubt it.
>>
>>34091462
Do you feel like conducting an experiment on the next hot day where you live, putting the gun out in the direct sun for about an hour and then making a youtube video about it if it turns into a gummy bear?

I'd never even heard of it until Hickok45 put out a video on it. I seriously doubt it will sell better than the fns line, which wasn't doing so hot to begin with. There's enough glock clones already. But 2 attempts from the same company?
>>
>>34091575
Buy right the first time. You don't want to regret your purchase, sell it for a loss and then buy the gun you really wanted later on. Do yourself a favor and get a USP.

>I'd never even heard of it until Hickok45 put out a video on it.
It's brand new and FN released it very quietly. There's nothing wrong with that kind of marketing strategy. It saves money on advertising and instead puts the sales pitch into the hands of a gun shop salesman.

The pitfall of a really hyped release is that if (or when) your gun fails to meet some autistic Youtuber's expectations, it doesn't get thrown against steel plates or stigmatized as choking on creek water, even though other Youtubers aren't able to replicate the tests where the gun apparently fails.
>>
>>34091575
I've literally owned/own all 3 of those.
My advice is that if you want to carry the gun, the 75b (preferably Omega trigger) will be the most comfortable to carry.

The rail on the sp-01 puts a little more weight up front and gives you a tighter lock up frame to slide so it's probably better as a range toy HD gun but the rail makes it thick and heavy for carry.

The Steyr is a cool gun but like the sp-01 has a fat nose. The Steyr prefers heavy powerful ammo. It comes with a fully supported chamber and was designed for hot hand loads. However, it has a tiny market share and there's not a lot of aftermarket for it. The sights are quick but not good for target shooting making it less fun at a public range. The Steyr angle is also more extreme than most guns and locks your wrist forward. That and the low bore axis makes it a fantastic gun for mag dumping. In fact if you want to just throw a lot of lead down range quickly, the Steyr is the sp-01. The Steyr is a cool gun from a cool company. Ultimately I got rid of mine because the grip angle was different from all my other guns and I didn't like the sights.

If I had to choose between those 3, I'd get a CZ 75 with Omega trigger because of the 3 that is the one I would most like to EDC.

Is the Beretta APX any good, i kind of like the look of it

Steyr [is a good choice as] is the sp-01
How the fuck did I drop that much of a sentence?

>>34091598
I think it lost out on the military contract to the 320. Then they tweaked it more. I don't know what it was like before the tweaks or why it lost to the SIG but I owned a 320 and it's just as good or better.
>>
>>34092023
OP here,
Thanks for asking. I have no idea and haven't shot or owned one. I do think the trigger felt squishy at the gun counter and of the 3 it seemed the most generic despite it's backwards serrations.
>>
>>34092045
Thanks for the input, Im leaning more toward the CZ / FN, I just don't want a plain glock.
>>
>>34092011
Very cool reply, thank you anon. And I agree with that other guy, I just didn't want a Glock.
>>
>>34092064
>>34092292
Glad I could help but I have a lot of respect for Glock
>still one of the most comfortable to carry (thin and flat)
>hugely customizable so yours can be unique
>easy to find magazines for $15
I don't shoot Glock because they don't fit my hand well but I think they're great from an end user perspective.
