I have recently purchased a GP-5 gas mask along with a filter. I don't know when it was made and i'm not really sure if it's safe. Sorry if I seem like a dumbass as i'm just a poor newfag.
Pic related, it's the writing on he side. the top had a "B" and it still had the rubber stopper at the bottom.
if you have to ask, it's almost certainly no good.
also, haven't they not made GP5 filters in like a bajillion years, and weren't the ones they did make loaded with fucking asbestos or something?
You shouldn't use it or open it at all. I know some who make fake filters for it but not functional ones.

Ohfuck.
The mask is safe though right?
I wore it for a bit and then put on the filter but I didn't inhale.
I don't wanna get cancer senpai

Also what does the number below the ID mean?
In the alphabet i think its "F-4"
thanks for the replies btw. I'm just curious as to what it all means and if I can know when it was made

if it doesn't have any dents or dings, it should be safe to wear. Any external damage implies internal damage as well, which could mean that internal seals are broken.

Soviet coffee can filters are filled with asbestos. GP-5 filters like OP's use activated charcoal, which can still be really harmful to inhale.

you're fine.

kk thanks guys.
I'm gonna decide what to do with it once I get home.

As much as i could inquire, the F-4 means that this filter protects against radiation, biological warfare and chemical weapons. And the filter itself must be new, since i couldn't find what the last two numbers mean exactly
I don't know why no one posted this. Gp-5 filters are safe unless they are damaged.
Better write out your will while you still can

None of it is hazardous.
Think logically for it. Asbestos costs money and has to be extracted from the earth. Carbon can be extracted from just about everything and is dirt fucking cheap.
If you can shake it and not have any carbon dust fall out, then it is safe to use.
