Do crossbows count as guns? A medieval hunting crossbow is the obvious first choice. I can manufacture my own crude ammo with some ease out of basic materials, ammo is easily retrievable, and I don't have to worry about powder. Maintenance is very easy. Second choice would be a muzzleloaded rifle for the same ammo scavenging reasons.
