Why are most western machine guns fed from the left side? Is there any benefit? It makes it much easier for the loader if they're fed from the right.

t. someone who has never used a machinegun

this
right hand on the pistol grip, stock under the shoulder
manipulations with the left hand
>>34082819
Great input, thanks. I used a machine gun in the military, both as shooter and loader. I guess the Russians have never used machine guns either seeing as they often design them with right hand feed.
>>34082938
As a left handed person, go fuck yourself.
Also, it's easier to shoot out the passenger side of car if it feeds from the left.
>>34082938
y u lying tho?

>>34082804
The AG on a 240 team generally is on the gunner's left. Well, to the extent that he is not on top of the gunner.
It is a mistake to think of weapons manipulation on a crew served weapon the same way one does on a rifle.
Nigga the gunner himself loads the gun nowadays so it's better to have the belt on the left.
>>34082804
So that the right handed guy shooting the damn thing doesn't get hot brass thrown his way
>>34082804
Because the AG is on the left and it'd be a pain in the ass to have him on the right?
>>34082804
for the same reason the FAL isn't referred to as "The Left Arm of the Free world"
>>34082804

I'll eject onto your face alright.

You have a good time graduating yesterday?
>>34085137
I wouldn't know when people graduate, you seem to though so maybe the question is more relevant to you?
>>34085137
yeah, i graduated Magna Cum Laude all over your stupid face !
>>34082957
Sorry you are a nasty subhuman mutant.
Lefthanders fuck off and stop expecting everyone to cater to you, you are worse than SJW's
>>34084266
This.
I'm not sure about line infantry in the Army/Marines, but SOF units that have the manpower to run AG's don't run AG's except for the goose. The Weapons Squad has "AGs" but they're basically just a guy carrying ammunition. His interaction with the Mk48/M240 is almost nil.
>>34083464
where the fuck is the weasel
>>34082804
Because lefties are subhuman animals who should be euthanized at birth.
>>34085187
You right handed scum, how does it feel to be inferior to the left handed evolved
>>34082804
>Why are most western. . . .
The sure sign of a shit thread
i've never noticed that the russian mgs load from the right
i guess it is better for prone guns to be assisted with a right hand feed (easier access on that side of gunners body)
western mgs are probably left hand fed due to common sense of having them vehicle mounted and not spitting brass into the gunners well
>>34085225
regular army m240s are two man teams. the AG assists in reloading but of course the ammo drum is attached and the rounds dont need feeding anymore. the m60 used detached ammo box feeds and was left side fed. kind of a flaw really
As someone who hasn't actually shot a machine-gun in the military, or ever, instead of shitposting, perhaps someone could explain in a contributing way the pros and cons of having it feed from the left and right.
>>34085730
doesn't matter really. right feed is a little better for a prone machinegun so that an assisstant can have better access from the gunners flush right side of the position
>>34085748
Thanks, is it perhaps because the PKM, NSV and KORD aren't deployed at squad level, so the Russians expect them to not be used on patrol as much and be more static than the US expects something like the M249?
>>34085709
our unit ran belts. they had them stuffed in the barrel bags. when the box was running low they would pull the belt out of the box and link the two belts. well that's how they trained at least.
>>34085761
the pkm is used at the squad level in the russian army. they also use drums now and don't need an assistant gunner like our SAW. I don't really know why the russians use a right hand feed, but it does make sense for easier assistance.
than again the brass is spitting left so if the gun is mounted than it will could be dropping hot shit onto a vehicle deck and bouncing it back at the gunner. doesn't really matter which direction its fed.
>>34085820
i'm sorry its rpk or whatever now. not the pkm which would be in a weapons squad or mounted/tripoded
>>34084837
>>34082938
Sure, buddie. Next thing you'll tell us, is that your father works at Nintendo.
>>34085889
RPK's are getting phased out bub.
Pk's are at squad level

>it's hard to believe that one out of a billion people on this earth who have fired a machiengun is OP
i used the 240 without any A gunner perfectly fine and carried 600-900 rounds of ammo on patrol. Its easier to reload from the left b/c of the way your arm has to reach all the way around to the right of the gun. I doubt any of you civies or NG faggots every used one in combat where your maneuvering. not in just some static position during "training". No one cares about your service. k.

>belt being drug through the sand while the AG gets spattered with brass
noone ever accused them of being smart
has no one mentioned hot brass to the chest yet?
>>34087503
its because of doctrine, and the fact that they dont fucking care anymore because theyve probably been in the field for a month and just want to go home.
>>34087533
the pkm ejects almost directly to the side of the weapon.
>>34082804
