Could a sword cut a bullet in half?
>>
>>34081753
Only katanas and only in the hands of ninjas
>>
>>34081753
Yes

They have

>>34081753
Only pure ghenki steel, superior to modern weapons in every way.
>>
Yes, but not while it's moving at 2000fps, all that energies got to go somewhere and will most likely break your sword, the bullet, your skull and your wrist.
>>
only nippon steel can cut bullets in half.
>>
>>34081753
Only in the fantasies of weebs
>>
>>34081811
that's a BB
>>
>>34081753
If you clamp a sword made with good metal into a vice and get a pistol with a red dot and place it on a sturdy stand yes it will cut the bullet in half and both ends will still be going fast enough to do damage. Now will some fat neck beard with a katana be able to cut a bullet in mid air? No
>>
>>34081753
Of cause, given it is not HE ammo.
Pyrite and lead are way softer than hardened aluminium. Obviously the blade would have a massive ding in it, but I'm sure it'd split.
I don't know if the black powder in the HE ammo would melt the sword or break it with frags.
>>
>>34081940
10/10 but still get out now
>>
>>34081936
No, bullets fragment if they hit anything remotely hard. But keep in mind bullets still go through inch thick unhardened steel, it's taken a reall fucking long time to get steel that can stop bullets. So yea that swords being snapped in half, but the bullet still did technically get cut in half (being smashed into a hundred pieces).
>>
>>34081948
Sorry, meant to say *shooting powder
>>
>>34081753
Yes but you will get hit with two projectiles instead of one. Remember that steel is harder than lead or copper.

The metal in a katana has to be folded at least 2000 times before it can adequately cut a bullet.

>>
>>34081980
I'm calling bullshit. If something goes through AR500 steel then it's most definitely breaking that sword.
>>
>>34081967
N-not the legendary Tanegashima powder!?!
>>
>>34081753
only superior nippon steel folded over 1 gorillion times has the capability
>>
>>34082001
>>34082016
What is a weeb and what is tanegashima powder?
Was that Matchlock rifle loaded with something special?
By Shooting powder I meant that stuff that burns slower than Black powder.
>>
>>34081753
Well, most bullets are made out of lead, which is heavy but isn't very hard as far as metals go, so assuming it's been shot out of a gun at you, the velocity of the bullet should pretty much do all of the work to cut the bullet.

bullets routinely split or break into tons of pieces just because they hit something like a human bone, so a steel sword should have a pretty easy time cutting one.
>>
>>34081753
So yes a sword can cut a bullet. But i would like to say that every video iv seen of that happening it is a .45 acp and the round doesn't have a coating. A very low pressure low velocity rounds. I think a 9mm/10mm or shooting the edge with a .223 would be very interesting to see. Last if we shot the sword in the side instead of the edge the sword would shatter
>>
>>34081837
the bullet didn't break the gun that shot it or the wrist of the shooter, so why would it magically do so on the end of someone holding a sword and cutting it?

You're not very good at this physics thing are you?
>>
>>34081753
easily, bullets part like water on a good edge at those speeds.
>>
>>34082004
if you shot the blade on its side it would break, but the edge is extremely thin and much harder than the bullet. besides in that video they shot it with a .45ACP. AR500 stops all common pistol rounds
>>
>>34082085
>By Shooting powder I meant that stuff that burns slower than Black powder.
thats called smokeless powder. in common use since 1886 by the French

I dunno, but if a spreading knife can, I'm pretty sure anything can.

Either taofledermaus or demo ranch also did a vid on this. Yes, a sword will cut a bullet.
>>
>>34081753
forged in fire did this exact test in one of their episodes. neither one used the "special" folding technique, although one did make it out of Damascus steel. both blades cut the bullet without damage to the blade.

the katana can cut a bullet when the gun is aimed directly at the sharp edge. no swordsman in history nor hell can cut a bullet in flight.
>>
>>34084465
What if the swordsman IS the shooter?
>>
>>34081753
Is there any ammunition that actually resembles the bullet in OP's post?
2 separate lead masses connected by a full copper jacket.
>>
>>34082004

lrn2 physics
Here, have an even bigger mindfuck. Katana cuts six .50 BMG projectiles in half before it breaks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2mIuayVKbA

Protip: any piece of sufficiently hard and sharp steel can do the same at that velocity. Copper and lead are soft.
>>
>>34082454

I know it's entertainment, but does anyone actually believe a smith wouldn't know that lead/copper is kinda softer than steel? Not like they were shooting DU rounds..
>>
>>34081964
Dont know what you're on about

>>34087697
Shoot that sword with anything above .223 and the other anon is probably right. Really the blame lies with OP for not specifying what bullet.
>>
>>34081753
>Could a sword cut a bullet in half?

A butter knife can cut a .50cal bullet in half.

So yeah sure. But now you just got hit with 2 bullet halves. Congratz, you now have twice the wounds.

You think that's something? I'm pretty damn sure it's not even the first time he's cut a helicopter in half. Certainly not an aircraft.
If you want to see some true hot implausibility watch some pink jacket sometime.

I can't remember an exact instance of it but I'm pretty sure goemon cuts through some truly heinous shit. I think he might just straight up cut his way out of a bank vault at some point
Pink jacket is a nigh-unintelligible hellscape that I've never watched sober

Yes, actually. Bullets are made of quite soft metal and the explosive itself won't offer too much resistance either. Unless you're talking about a moving bullet which is, of course, a whole new set of challenges
