How do I know if the bolt spacing is good to go in a different manufacturer's barrel?

Can any bolt be dropped in any upper?

How much do tools really cost to build 5.56mm style AR?

Has blade tech gotten a letter like sig for the pistol braces from the ATF or are they lying?

If you're talking about the head spacing on an ar15, you're good to go. All barrels and all bolts that are within spec are safely interchangeable.

Any bolt can be dropped in any upper, just if you want it to not explode make sure you have the right caliber bolt.

You really don't need any tools to build an ar15, but things like a vice, punches, a mallet, and an ar15 armorer's wrench help, and all those things can be had for cheap.

I'm not so sure on the blade tech thing

1: Get some headspace gauges and learn how to use them.

2: Pretty much, yeah.

3: Screwdriver with flat and maybe crossheads, allen keys, loctite, vise, armorer's wrench, punches, and possibly other assorted wrenches depending on part. Highly recommend getting a torque wrench, as it's useful for muzzle devices and barrel nuts.
All in all, a couple hundred dollars if you get decent tools. Try asking a friend if they have these, if possible.

4: For what? Does Blade Tech sell braces now? Or are you thinking about the Shockwave?

Are AR pistols legal in Aus? I thought no until I saw one in a photo posted on Firearm Owners United next to an adler and australian model glock (which rules out the photo being taken in the USA in my mind)

Is it an AR pistol or just a Cat D firearm?

Pic related.
>>
I'm looking for a carry pistol in 9mm which is very small, and gives the shooter a lot of control over the weapon. I know that the higher up you're able to put your hands on a handgun, the less room the gun has to flip when it recoils, giving better control, so I'd like something that lets me get a nice high grip, something designed around stability. Does /k/ have any suggestions?
>>
>>34079641

1: Not really possible. Just make sure that your bolt source or barrel source can do returns if your rifle doesn't head space. It honestly shouldn't be much of an issue unless you're buying from little-known manufacturers or buying surplus.

Just stick with better manufacturers and you should be fine.

2: Until KAK actually produces and posts a proper printable letter from the ATF it would be safe to assume that that claim is false.

KAK has gotten one that defines the Shockwave as a brace, but has not gotten one that says the ATF is fine with you shouldering it.

Keep your doggos safe, anon.

>>
>>34079958
The hook is the best part. You can pull a man off his horse or trip him if he's on food. One could also grab the edge of a shield, pull it away to expose your opponent, and then immediately stab him with the pointy end. It's really a brilliant polearm.

Honestly, don't listen to these non-HEMA retards.
The main killing surface of a billhook or a halberd is and always was the spike, the recurvature of the face blade is so that you can catch the opposing guy's arms on the back stroke before stabbing again, you can't really use a polearm in a non-stabbing motion in ranks.

Why are bullpups so fucking heavy? Almost every one is 8+ pounds. If anything they should be lighter than conventional rifles, as they don't need a separate stock and receiver. The Aug is the closest I've seen to that 7 pound sweet spot, which makes no sense as it's an ancient gen 1.

I don't really understand halberds very well the axe bit always seemed kind of pointless for slashing. I think the hook was like lugs on a board spear- so it doesn't over penetrate, and to hook stuff.

I couldn't tell you for sure but part of the reason for the design is that you can fit a overall longer barrel. Barrels don't seem it but they get heavy real quick.

What should I do with these two Colt 1911 government slides/barrels? I got them for $50 each.

The top one with the old-styled optic mount has a national match barrel in it and the lower one is a .38 special kit, made for 38 special wadcutter bullets.

So what do? How would I got about getting a matching frame for them and turning them into complete pistols?
>>
>>34080507
You'll regret it.
>>
Why do people use shitty rounds like birdshot to avoid over penetration? My thinking is that you worry about killing the guy first and the slim chance you'll shoot somebody past them second.
>>
>>34081352
Probably, but .32 acp sucks for selfie defense, and the gun is so old at this point that by practicing with it I'm only going to lower its value. The ammo is kind of expensive too.
It all depends on what it's worth... I wouldn't sell it for less than $1k but above that I'm kind of getting to a point where it would be worth it to me.

i know you want a gun now and it falls in your preferred price range but its is absolutely worth it to save the extra 100-150 bucks and buy a glock/m&p.
the people saying buy it spend 50 bucks on an apex trigger and you get something better than a glock are full of shit. with the apex the trigger goes from shit to average.
you might be thinking well 300+50 for a gun isnt that bad but your stuck with expensive mags compared to glock/m&p and a very limited aftermarket for things like holsters.

Gibbs makes M1903A3 and M1903A4 rifles using re-activated drill receivers and all-new other parts. As for Mausers, Crvena Zastava made their M63 carbine until very recently (like 2014 it was dropped from the catalog IIRC) Back in 1998 Waffenfabrik Mauser did a special run of M98 rifles for the centennial of the design, including a few hundred brand-new Gew.98 and Kar.98k.

easy question for someone here.

Pic related, all those mags - does it wear out your springs to keep them loaded like this? I understand the desire to keep a bunch of mags at the ready, but how long can you keep them like this before the magazines don't 'push' the rounds up like they should?
>>
>>34083455
The jury is still out on that one
>>
>>34083455
Most people say it's loading the mags all the time that wears out the springs. I don't know, I keep some of mine loaded, if it's true it's not that big of a deal to buy some replacements or even just spring kits. I hope cz75 mags have aftermarket or replacement springs though I always keep those loaded.

>Clean the 6-32 x 3/8” adjustment screw with lacquer thinner or an appropriate solvent. Then, apply a small amount of Loctite® 243 to the set screw and install it in the gas block as shown. Thread the screw in until it bottoms out, and then turn it back one full turn. Install the clamp screws only from the direction shown.

Why the fuck would you apply loctite to one of the screws that you're actually going to have to adjust after the thing is installed? Am I just retarded?
>>
>>34083604
Loctite comes in different strengths, and I believe 243 is somewhat medium strength? Maybe it's meant to keep it solid and not jump/self thread during shooting, but still be able to turn it with some moderate pressure. Just guessing

I've seen videos where people demonstrate techniques on loading/clearing a handgun when your offhand is disabled or occupied. They typically talk about using your belt or boot, or putting it between your knees. Some even recommend using your teeth if it's a life-or-death situation.
But all of them assume that you'll have access to these things, rather than just the gun and your hand.

So I thought about how I'd do it with nothing but the gun itself, and came up with pic related.
What do y'all think?
Is it viable?

Sure, you muzzle sweep yourself a bit when you spin it back to your hand, but it's not like you'd use this in anything but an emergency anyway.

And as I mentioned at the end, it gets like 3 times easier with the hammer back. I just wanted to show it can be done at its hardest.
And a Jericho is a pretty big handgun. It could be done even better on smaller carry pistols.

Also, can you not start threads on /k/ with webbums? I tried making a thread with pic related and it didn't work twice.

Just purchased a Shield 9mm because dirt cheap. Upon first disassembly, the sear deactivation lever just fell straight out.

I've read about this happening to a lot of other people. I guess Smith just forgets to install the pin, because all I could find was the lever and the spring. I removed the spring because I don't want it blocking anything while it floats around.

Should I be concerned? The part doesn't seem to be necessary. Doesn't make me feel great about the reliability of the gun, but I also don't want to deal with customer service for reasons.

I decided to go out and buy a 10/22 since Big5 had it on sale for memorial day. I'm going to dress it up like an M1 carbine.

I figured if I want to get the Mini 14 later I can just wait for it to go on sale again later on since the sale price is the same as the "normal" online price + shipping + tax + DROS.

Just a normal 10/22. Big5 has them for $240 until 5/29.

I just inherited my Great Grandfathers .38 special. It's an old Spanish 5 shot from around the 50's-70's. He scratched off the serial number and scratched up the inside of the barrel.

Now he was never arrested or involved in any investigation and he was a Korea vet. So now that I have his gun I just plan on holding on to it for sentimental reasons and never really using it.

But if I wanted to take it to my range and shoot it I'd like to know if it would be "illegal" to have it in my possession. If so I'll just keep it locked away.

CZ has some of the best aftermarket stuff around.

You can either buy replacement mags from them, or you can buy them from CZ Custom & Cajun. OR you can buy them from Mec-Gar.

If I were you, I'd buy from Mec-Gar because they actually make better mags than pretty much every manufacturer. Their offerings are also cheaper. Like they sell 19 round mags for less than what a 17 round mag from CZ costs, it's almost exactly the same dimensions, and the build quality is higher. And that isn't to shit talk CZ's mags, they make quality mags, but you can get even better ones from Mec-Gar.

>it can be done even better on smaller carry pistols

Not necessarily. Larger full frames benefit from having usually blockier slides and sharp/pointy sights. I can easily replicate what you are doing with my SP-01 for instance, but if I try and do it on my RAMI it's hard as a mother fucker. This has a lot to do with the frame being smooth as fuck, and generally being designed not to snag on anything anywhere. Those same methods "put it on a belt, your shoe, etc." would also work just as poorly because the margins with the sights are so small. IMO, the best way is to find the corner of something and press against that. Like the edge of a wall, or some sort of raised and squared surface such as a step. The belt and shoe methods are pretty easy to replicate on full sized guns, not so much on smaller ones. Unless it's a Glock, but I refuse to carry a fucking Glock.

Looking to buy my next rifle. Already have an AR and a 10/22. What should I get? Budget of about $1,500.

Thinking about a battle rifle, specifically a DSA FAL because that's about the cheapest one on the market, although I'd be open to something else. I'm just worried about parts availability and ease of gunsmithing; I'm used to working on easier guns like my 10/22 and AR.

I'd like an AR-10 but those are probably out of my price range.

Another thing I'm concerned about with a battle rifle is what I'd use it for. I don't hunt or do competition, just range shooting, so I'm not sure about adding another caliber to my armory, especially one that's a lot more expensive than .22 and .223.

What's the best folding knife with 4" blade for around $15?

At $15 they're all going to be the same quality. All just knock offs of more expensive knives with cheaper steel.

You didn't only slash with a halberd, you hit with it. It was just that swinging it was a big hard to do in formation so I guess they tended to slash in formation but could also use it to swing while alone or in smaller groups.

Are there any .308 enfields besides the Ishapore 2a1? And if so, how is it? Is it accurate (capable of 1-2 moa) to 100 yards? Is it peculiar about what it would shoot accurately?
>>
>>34089254
Smaller blades usually cost less. Anon specifically asked about 4".

>>34089264
>Are there any .308 enfields besides the Ishapore 2a1?
Aussies made (make? not sure if the company still exists) a few models based on the Mk4, these would be new rifles under the AIA brand.
There are also various Mk4 factory conversions floating around but a Ishapore would be far cheaper.

>Is it accurate (capable of 1-2 moa) to 100 yards?
.308 enfields are known to be fairly accurate totally capable of 1-2moa at 100.
For ishapores try to get one with a good barrel, from what i've heard they can be in pretty rough conditions.

I would imagine that the trigger linkage is heavier than standard rifles with normally placed triggers, also a lot of them have integral optics and or carry handles. Bullpups are nice, but, at 6'7" they feel off to manipulate because they are so small. Also bullpups bolts don't have as much travel, so they are probably heavier, the spring sure are.

Okay /k/ I'm jumping on the mememobile and want to by an SKS. I've always wanted a milsurp rifle and I really like the fact that it uses 7.62x39.

there's a local gunbroker for a rearsenaled Yugo with 200 rounds of surp ammo, two dozen stripper clips, and a bandolier to carry it in. All for $425. Will be taking a look at it myself but from pictures it appears to be in excellent shape.

How is that value wise? My understanding is that it's par for the course for a yugo these days. Yugo owners please tell me your thoughts and/or what I should look for.

As was just said, there isn't one.
>>
>>34091451
The cheapest you will get is a beat-to-death ChiCom for $350 with a fucked-up stock and hopefully not a sewer pipe for a barrel.

Yugos are the only unissued SKSs still coming into the States and they're about $450 these days.

Literally the only time it's worth it is when you can grab one from an old fudd who thinks he's ripping you off by selling it for $250. You need to REALLY troll places you can find used guns and look for deals. OR you can overpay like a chump.

SKSs used to be a solid semi-auto centerfire rifle in an intermediate cartridge that could be had at a ridiculously-good pricepoint. That's WHY they became a meme. Those days have been gone for like 5 years. You missed the boat my dude.

ARs are now the semi-auto rifle of choice for poorfags. Them's the breaks.

Hey guys, just got my first pistol, a 1911, and took it out to the range for the first time today. My 1911 is an Auto Ordnance 1911A1, and it's got the 5" barrel and parkerized finish. I was having issues with failures to feed at the range today. It happened like two or three times per magazine. I was using CCI Blazer Brass and Perfecta (both 230 grain FMJ) out of 7 round Springfield magazines. What's causing this?

extractor. Needs tuning. Welcome to the world of 1911s
>>
>>34093027
They say there is a break-in period with these guns. Is that just a load of horseshit? I've put 100 rounds through it and still having the issue with hand cycles. It's not limpwristing because I let the RO's at the range fire it and they had the same issue. I borrowed one of their Wilson Combat magazines too. Same problem. How do I tune the extractor?

>>
>>34093109
That could be the problem. I know if i drip oil my .45 then run a few hundred through it I tend to get failure2eject & failure2feed issues. It seems to be more with cheaper steel cases.

I want to paint my bolt gun rifle like pic related. The plan is a similar color scheme, as I live in a pretty wooded area of Michigan, and I need to be well camouflaged when I'm poking holes in paper at the range.

Anyone have paint their own guns before? Any tips? Here is my plan.

>Remove stock
>Tape off parts of scope, and rifle that I don't want painted
> Brake cleaner to remove grease & dirt
>Primer
>Base coat some shade of green or brown
>Sponge paint on different shades to get effect similar to pic
>Dry and re-assemble
>>
>>34093158
>>34093151
I made sure to properly clean my gun today. I got most of the oil off. I have switched from Hoppes to Eezox. I am still having the same issues with hand cycling on all 5 of my magazines. (1 Kahr, 4 Springfield Armory)

I guess I'll go on Midway and see how much an extractor goes for.
>>
>>34093191
Ok. You said "very oily" so I was thinking "dripping w/oil", if your sure it isnt oil and not limpwristing like you stated. It could be mags or extractor.
>>
>>34093220
Well, not exactly dripping, but I did over oil it. Maybe it is my $13 mags? I wanted to keep it close to a GI style configuration.

I'm interested in ammo like this:

And I wanted to know if someone who has more experience with revolvers and ammo could tell me whether this type of ammo will cause leading in my gun.

Well before you ship it off buy a new extractor spring or new mags. I'd recommend just cleaning it, lightly oiling the slide grooves an recommended parts with one/two drops of your oil brand then seeing how it runs.
I've got a shitty turk built 45 as my beater >>34093151(me) I still use the cheap as fuck ACT-MAG's that come with it and some off the wall 10'ers that run fine in it. An it is a pos.

So, an this is my opinion only, Clean it, lightly oil the slide grooves an barrel lug. An see how it fires before dropping a bunch on new parts/mags.
If it still does it ask range cadre.

A bunch of youtubers have very basic videos going over beginners stuff, like Hickock45, and Lucky Gunner. C&Rsenal for more historic guns, InRangeTV is good, and so is Bloke on the Range.

I don't know how much a new fag would really learn from Hickok45. All his videos are "I got this gun here and let's just see if I can zero it in *PING*. Ok, let me try and see if I can get a further away shot *PINGPINGPING*. Heehaw! Wows. That's a nice piece."

I mean, it's comfy, but not terribly informative.

Why does an M1 Garand have the gas port so close to the end of the barrel when an AR has a siginificantly larger distance from the gas port to the muzzle?

I want to get my dad a gun for Father's day. I was thinking a shotgun, but 12 gauge wouldn't work because his shoulder joint is slightly malformed, and is easily injured, and the last time he fired a 12 gauge it apparently dislocated his shoulder. Is there any reason why you couldn't use a chopping weapon (like a machete, axe, or falchion) in conjunction with a large shield like a scutum? As I understand it, the main reason why the Romans didn't use slashing or chopping weapons was that stabbing was more lethal and could be used in a tight formation. Changing the springs also affects the SA trigger pull (and the P64 has a good SA pull by default).

I've heard that using springs that are too light risks giving you light primer strikes.

The P64 lacks an external slide stop/release, and I've heard some people say that dry firing the gun broke their firing pins. If you get one, might be a good idea to get snap caps for dry firing.

Honestly, I'd just go ahead and get a P64 while you can since they're so cheap. If you don't like it, it'll at least make for a milsurp collection piece.

I have one and I don't really recommend it unless you're into milsurp. I installed a lighter hammer spring and a 22lb recoil spring, and it's still not that nice.
The trigger is much better and it doesn't recoil as much, but the sights aren't very good and the heavier recoil spring makes racking the slide a bit of a pain.
It's also on the heavy side for its six round capacity.
That said it's OK for a pocket gun, and I haven't had any reliability issues with it.

Please excuse the crappy picture.
