Is 5.56 really equivalent to 7.62 up to 300 yards?

Is getting a 7.62 for close quarters, home defense type shit stupid?
Part of me wants to get an AR, but what I really want to do is get a ptr, slap a red dot on it, and make it my HD rifle. Steel case isn't too expensive and mags are cheap as fuck

Also please redbull me on PTRs, at 1000 it seems like a really good deal. I know the trigger is crap and they supposedly have what is often referred to as "violent recoil", a description which for whatever reason makes me rock hard

PTR is a big ole girl, not especially suited for home defense unless you have a lot of land, big driveway, etc
the recoil isn't bad, its what i'd describe as 'sudden' vs an AR that I would call 'gradual' if that makes sense

could be ok, again the PTR is heavy as fuck, i sold mine and a few other things to go down to 2 long guns, one shotgun one rifle, and bought a SCAR. also because army trigger time the AR pattern is really deep in my muscle memory and HK style oper8tion was too much to relearn personally, you may be okay with it

Every time I start to look at building an AR-10, I get close to $1800-2000, and at that point I'm just going to say fuck it and get a SCAR.

Taking the plunge into building a .308 AR. What's the best brand to build on? So far I'm liking aero, I believe it's based on the dpms.

Don't, they're discontinuing that complex garbage. Chad said the RDB will have a .308 big brother last year, and kel tec usually comes through on their promises (unlike a certain other "tech")

Keep bugging them for a .308 RDB and we shall soon have a weapon to surpassed the MDR.
