Let's see what you faggots are building.
I'm closing in on my enfield rechambered in 7.62x39. Just finished chambering. cutting the extractor slot tomorrow and maybe working on the magazine.
The rifle was a sporterized piece of shit I got in a trade, trust me I'm doing it a favor.
>>34076937
Shit that's actually really interesting.
What all have you done to make it readily shoot 7.62x39?
What are you going to do for magazines?
Is the bolt face size of x39 the same as .303?
I made a thing to help organize my ammo cans today
>>34076937
I put this kit together a couple days ago
>>34077187
Nice! I got a Romanina kit the other day that I'm going to be building soon. 1979 all matching serials. It's my first build

front of a lee enfield chamber is really close to being the right size already, you shorten and thread the barrel back, and a bunch of people, me included, need to use emery cloth to open the chamber just a smidge to let it in all the way. you could use a reamer if you had one of course.
mag is going to be a ruger mini 30. I bought a little 10 round ak mag, but it's too fat to fit without modification, but I want to be able to use stock mags. pic related is what i'm working from. This guy did a good job
Bolt face needs a ring soldered on, and a new spring loaded ejector,
I'm hoping to get 75% of that done this weekend. probably lucky to get 25%.
>>34076937
Well shit, nothing THAT exciting. Sitting on 8 lowers that will one day grow into AR15s though.
Look forward to seeing your Enfeild complete.
i finished an 80% 1911
shit's cash
>>34077405
"Complete" on a project like this will always be a ways off.
>>34077405
Why 8? Bulk deal or something?
>>34077422
I'm definitely trying do do this myself. What kit did you use? Or did you buy your parts cafeteria? Anything you would have wanted to know before you did yours?
>>34077448
Got 7 buddies. gonna have group build parties.
>>34077451
I bought a 7075 frame and a cutter for the rails from stealth arms. The drill bits I got from mcmaster, but if you have a good hardware store you can find them (they're wire sizes) or just buy them from stealth arms. You'll also need to cut the barrel channel a bit (I used a rat tail file, but they recommend a ball end mill) and a countersink bit to slightly spotface the trigger pin holes. I didn't buy a jig because thankfully I have access to a mill and a 90 degree block to hold shit.
the parts kit was from sarco inc. it was cheap but some were a little fucky, like the grip safety and the MSH running into each other. Also if you buy their kit inspect the slide very closely for fucked up machining.
Shit went pretty smoothly on this build, but just be warned that you'll have to do some fileing and fitting of parts no matter what. So have some small files on hand, and some time to fuck around.

Also stealth arms has blueprints on their site.
>>34077485
As in, 1 nice finished ar, 2 shit builds and 5 unnasembled lost parts? Group builds are like herding cats. Hope your friends are serious, desu.
This may be a stupid question, but...
Why do you have it mounted that way in a lathe? Won't it wibbly wobble itself to death?
Or is it just to hold it in place.
>>34077545
Had to keep screwing the action on to check headspace, when turning just the barrel was in place.
>>34077556
Gotcha, makes sense.
My barrel comes in on Wednesday
>>34077540
Lol, nah these are good cats. All but one of us is pretty dedicated and the rest of us are planning to peer-pressure the fuck out of that one to keep him motivated.
>>34077525
I'm not into handguns so don't know anything about 1911's, but would there not be a pretty serious risk of galling on the rails having a frame made from aluminum? Are you having it anodized?
>>34076937
I want to build my own pistol caliber carbine from scratch. What caliber should i use?
>>34077592
There's more risk of it than with a steel frame, but I put 100 or so rounds through it last week and the slide rails look great. The upper and lower edges look shiny and burnished a bit and the sides of the rail cuts look totally untouched. Same for the feed ramp; just a slight shiny patch where the bullets were rubbing.
I will be having it anodized soon though.

.32 rimfire
Fat solid 316 SS guide rods for P229 on a CNC Swiss lathe
>>34077644
9x23 dillon
>>34077644
don't listen to any of these faggit.
>>34077667
>>34077772
use a man's cartridge like .44-40
>>34077810
Any answer to "what caliber for a first build" that isn't .22lr is wrong
Let's all just be real here for a minute.
>>34077669
Look nice, you do any hand finishing or they come off the machine like that?
I really dislike machining stainless.
>>34078217
The Swiss style lathe pretty much does all turning as a finishing pass. If I were set up to make a run of parts, I'd run the feed about 5x the speed I ran this, but since I wanted it to come off the machine ready to go, I just ran 8 of them real slow and made them smooth as hell.
>>34077644
.22, .32 or .380
all of those can be relatively light blowback
Got my ring soldered on the bolt head
>>34076937
