In all honesty, that's what I'm doing for my M-16A1 clone build. I found a 60s-vintage Alfred E. Neuman sticker on eBay and I'm going to put it over my lower's roll mark. I think it only adds to the 'Nam aesthetic.

The white is the aluminum oxide that formed on the surface of the laser etch. I have an M&P 15, I wish that logo was either engraved or not there at all, but you are going to need to refinish the lower to cover it up.
