Do cops have sharper uniforms than military?

If your cops wear bright colours, they are more visible to criminals and civilians, thus acting as a more effective deterrent and reassuring the people they are protected.

If your troops are easier to notice, they get shot quicker, thus being worse for a war.

This is why military uniforms all look drab as hell or are environment specific.


So generally, yes the police will have a sharper uniform than the military in the case of "beat cops" and such but once you get to the police who aren't a deterrent but purely a force for projecting the law (e,g swat) they essentially look like the military.

Also the fact that many police forces are more lenient on facial hair than the military can be measured as assisting them in looking good. For example the Indian police force if I remember rightly.

Ceremonial in use these days.

Last used on the battlefield in an era when ranged threats like guns weren't as easily beaten by stealth thanks to the nature of combat as masses of troops moving against each other in formations. More important to be able to tell which mass of blood soaked and mud covered guys is on your side than to be harder to see individually when you will never move that way.

Also the fact they wear that because they are famous for it / it looks cool / funny to tourists. They have others wearing something a bit more modern elsewhere armed with firearms, ready to tackle threats. Swiss guard are still bad-ass though.

In the united states There are four branches of the armed services. There are hundreds of different local, state, and federal LEO's, all with different Uniforms. Some are bound to be better looking than what the navy and army have come up with.

Cammies look like ass IMO and there's no reason for it in garrison. Military should go back to one color utility uniforms and only issue MARPAT/Multicam when you're actually deploying. Would probably save a ton of money too.
