Does .308/7.62x51 ice pick at close distances (say 10-15 feet and 20-30 feet) or is it pretty much good to go? Never fired a .308 really don't know.
Pic unrelated but it is the Scranton strangler.

what is ice-pick? Nice trips

I don't know what you mean by icepick?
308 will kill man and beast at any distance from the muzzle out to 1000 yards, if you can hit that far. Does that answer your question?

I think he meant is it going so fast that it won't expand/tumble in anyway and the hole merely be the diameter of the bullet.
Idk OP, I'd think it would possibly if it hit no bones, but unlike pistol rounds it's really causing a lot of ripping damage from that velocity. That's a lot of joules
It might not be the most dangerous distance, but it'd probably sure as hell be as deadly or more than smaller rounds
Icepick means it only leaves a .30 cal hole
Depends on the bullet:
M80 actually does pretty well from what I've read.
Bullets not constrained by military regulations will perform better against soft targets, i.e. Hornady TAP
Also OP the closer the range the less likely they are to "icepick", you've got it backwards

Bullets are more likely to expand at higher impact velocities, not less likely.

What did 16-19 feet ever do to you?
Ammunition selection is everything.
Obviously if you have access to law enforcement or hunting bullets you're in luck.
It's a .30 caliber round with some serious force behind it. It'll blow a real big hole in you.

Dwight isnt the scranton strangler. That was just his halloween costume

here is an example of what real fucking nato does to a head
>>34070722
not necessarily, the early .303 cartridges were just solid cupro nickel jacketed lead that didn't expand or tumble well, and it would pretty much just go right through the target and not do a whole lot of damage. they gradually made it into more of a hollow point until those were banned from combat use.
so yeah, you could definitely argue a bullet is deadlier at range because it could tumble more violently, but I doubt if that's even true or if it would be noticeable.

Oh what a relief, some dingus on here told me that a 16in .308 wouldn't make a good brush gun cause 200ft less velocity.

This and /thread.
An AP round will leave a .30 cal hole. A highly expansive hunting bullet (Nosler AccuBond, Remington Core-Lokt, etc) out of the same rifle at the same distance will turn your chest cavity into mush.

Wtf is wrong with Brazil?
/k/ is stupid and uses fmj
308 sp and hp are devastating

unrestrained nogs with no respect for human life

It's shorter to make a list of what's right.
The list is as follows -
Nothing.

>An AP round will leave a .30 cal hole.
>He doesn't know what API is.
>>34073219
I do know what API ammo is. OP asked if .308/7.68x51 would icepick and I used AP (M61 blacktip) as an example of one that probably would.
Try a little reading comprehension next time.

armor piercing incendiary. It's an anti-materiel round that would likely fuck up any soft target it hit in a magnificent fashion.
>>34073570
Is API M61 blacktip?
