The unit takes decent casualties, but after a skirmish or two, any of ours are worth five of them. It's almost sad that the Profligates can't hold even a single decent supply line. Without >muh 5.56 to keep thier weapons fed, their 'soldiers' are like Brahmin to the slaughter. They laugh at our armor, while they cant supply the average troop with anything that can stop a .357 from my repeater, let alone a 12.7 from my sidearm.

Can't wait to hit the Dam. At least until then there's plenty of combat to be had at Forlorn Hope.

To be honest, historical notes were manipulated and changed a lot.

According to some, the M199 "Backtalker" was standard issues for the army and most recognized by them. Never seen either of the rifles on the east coast, so for all I know the service rifles the NCR carry are that very gun. Either that or the "Marksman" Carbines.

Seattle was the first US city to enter the 22nd Century Program, meaning Seattle survived intact from the bombs. The city is immaculate, maintained by bleeding edge robots and other technology. However when the Bombs dropped the EMP fried all the US Census data, so the Cities Active Defence kicked in. Everyone was killed by the police and SWAT robots, and anybody entering city limits are killed as well. A whole pre-war city just setting there for the taking. The NCR put 3 divisions north, while only one was sent West. All of our armor and artillery assets are there right now to include two divisions of Marines.

The net gain? NOTHING. The City's Supervisor adapted to us, seeing us as a Chinese puppet state, SWAT robots make most of the infantry of the city pic related, they've got plasma rifles that shit all over anything the Enclave ever had. It fires purple streams instead of slow green bolts. They make people EXPLODE.

manufacturing small arms is a lot different than manufacturing artillery. you can make small arms in even a poorly equipped machine shop with little more than a couple steel ingots and some common sense (barrels take a little more expertise and some advanced tooling from what I understand however). they won't be the highest quality but they probably won't shake themselves to pieces until the ten thousand round mark or so.

Arty, on the other hand, the pressures involved are several orders of magnitude different. I imagine it takes advanced metallurgy techniques to make the steel required for an artillery piece that will not fail at the breech on the first shot, not to mention a complex understanding of chemistry to make the propellant. I imagine the NCR could probably maintain old pieces they find, maybe even machine simple replacement parts, but even something like a french 75 would probably be pushing the limits of the NCR to manufacture new from the ground up. Other factions on the other hand....that's a different story. It'd certainly be within the abilities of the Enclave or Brotherhood of Steel to do so.

Also it bears mentioning that not access to indirect fire hurts a lot less when the other guy doesn't have it either. Plus, if you ran into a hard target that today's infantryman would call a fire mission on, man-portable alternatives like the Fat Man or missile launcher will do in a pinch.

Just be warned though, FNV is more crash prone than a 90's Microsoft OS even under the best conditions. I have 20+ mods installed and have tried to get the game as stable as possible yet it still crashes every 30-40min. If your going to use a ton of mods save every 10-15min, it's a lifesaver.
