I'm thinking about purchasing a cheap, fun bolt action/semi auto rifle to shoot. What are some good options?

Armslist.com shows some decent sks's and mosins in my area, but I don't want to commit without a little more research.

Mosin bolt is a bit clunky but I love it.
Ass Gay Ass is easily one of the most fun guns I've ever owned.
>>
>>34067389
Neither of the guns you mentioned are cheap anymore. Watch 20minutes of youtoob videos and build an AR for $350 or buy a .22lr.

Comblock surplus is ded
>>
Build an AR, a lot easier than working on a lawn mower, Cheap mags and ammo a million bolt-on accessories, never look back

God, why did you remind me

Svt 40, asthectic as f and fun as hell to shoot

I own a Mosin. Bought it from the store a couple years ago for about 250. I fucking love. Only thing is. The bayanetts are machine to the barrel. I didnt know that when i got it. And mine dont fit on it. Also. For the mosins the chamber they have a round and a hexagonal. The round ones were made in times of war since it was easier and the hexagonal ones were made in peace time. They are harder to find so if you find one buy it
>>
Don't listen to this fucker >>34067569 you can buy a mosin for <$200 and a chink SKS for just over $300. You'll get an indestructible rifle with a lot of history. Not to mention they have everything you need already attached. Build a barebones AR and you won't have all the bells and whistles and you'll end up buying attachments that you would have spent on ammo for the commie guns
>>
>>34067389
Get a carbine nugger.
Fun as fuck to shoot

Yugo skss are like $350-400, at least in my area. The only saving grace is 7.62x39 is cheap and also most yugos are in good shape. I'd say mosin, but 54r is like .40$/rd or more so find a cheap sks. If there's a guy with one missing the bayonet, beat up stock, etc try to offer like $300.

Plainfield M1 Carbine, constructed from surplus/spare military parts. Get a good magazine and it runs. Got mine for ~$325 at auction. Box of 50 Tula .30s run about $12. No one I know who has shot the little M1 Carbines has managed to not fall in love with them. At around 5 1/2 pounds empty, they are feathery. Also, stick with 15 round mags; lot of M1s use older mag catches that sag under 30s.

>buying other than gi
At least they were the better clones. The one I tried worked fine for me.
I still don't understand how the new Inland turds malfunction as bad as shit clones from the 70's. You'd think they'd have that figured out by now

Good info
>>
>>34068902
I've heard that the new Inlands are problem children. At the cost, too... not worth it.

But at the price, my little Plainfield is wonderful. It's the only gun I ever named, if that'll tell you have likable she is. She doesn't like the 30rd mags, (that weak catch design), and I need to Dremel some burs out of the mag well. Other than that, though, she's great. The vented upper handguard mated with the walnut stock adds some class.

Get an SKS and stick a cup on the grenade launcher thing. Switch gas system off. Put a golfball in the cup and load up a blank. Have fun.

>>
>cheap, bolt or semi, fun to shoot
Ruger 10/22 or CZ 455FS.
>>
>>34067389
In all honesty, if what you want is just a fun bolt-action shooter, at this point I'd say a Savage Axis II or Ruger American Rifle. Yes, you might save a couple of bucks on the purchase price by buying an old Mosin or Mauser, even at today's prices, but by the time you've put a thousand rounds through it, you'll have more than made that up in ammo costs by buying a common round like .223 or .308 instead of 7mm Mauser or 54r. It's not just surplus rifles that have dried up, it's surplus ammo that's dried up, too. The days of plentiful cheap spam cans are long gone.

If you want the history of a milsurp, then get one. But if you just want a fun cheap shooter, the days when milsurp was the way to go are long gone.

they don't cost that much anymore, last chance I had prices like that was 2011 or 2012
>>
>>34067389

The best feeling in the world is to buy a Bubba'd up SKS back when they were cheap, shoot it frequently as you slowly learn about guns and start visiting /k/, discover it has a good pedigree and all matching numbers, and lovingly restore it.
