Redbull me on attack helicopters. Are they still relevant in modern warfare with all the advanced ground to air missiles out there? What can an attack helicopter do that a fighter jet or CAS aircraft can't, considering that fighter jets and other aircraft are probably more survivable? What are considered to be the current best and most advanced attack helicopters and what are the current developments in attack helicopter technology?

What kind of record did Apaches have in Afghanistan in Iraq? How are Russia's updated Hinds doing in Syria, and why aren't they trying out their Ka-52s and Mi-28s over there?

Forgive all the questions, I'm just really out of the loop.

>Are they still relevant in modern warfare with all the advanced ground to air missiles out there?
Yes. Like with tanks and ATGMs, you just have to use them more strategically than in a situation without SAMs.
>What can an attack helicopter do that a fighter jet or CAS aircraft can't, considering that fighter jets and other aircraft are probably more survivable?
Loiter, take off and land from unprepared surfaces, etc.
>why aren't they trying out their Ka-52s and Mi-28s over there?
They are, there's plenty of footage.
>>
>Are they still relevant in modern warfare with all the advanced ground to air missiles out there?
Yes but with a big fat asterisk, due to MANPADs, WOMANPADs, and the fact that camouflaged emplaced ballistic weapons in 23mm/30mm hell even 14.5 and 12.7 can be a nasty surprise
>What can an attack helicopter do that a fighter jet or CAS aircraft can't, considering that fighter jets and other aircraft are probably more survivable?
Linger and give true close air support
>What are considered to be the current best and most advanced attack helicopters and what are the current developments in attack helicopter technology?
Various dopey guided missile systems to fire around terrain and such (like in some video games)
Countermeasures to radar aimed ballistic weapons and various missile weapons
""stealth""
>What kind of record did Apaches have in Afghanistan in Iraq?
Produced the hottest war porn around
>How are Russia's updated Hinds doing in Syria, and why aren't they trying out their Ka-52s and Mi-28s over there?
They have, there's some footage of the Ka-52s doing some rocket runs and doing a bit of a flyaround dance

manpads have been around since the late 60s. its always been a consideration for all aircraft. flying NOE and avoiding LOS is the best defense. most AA are unable to engage if too close and that is another tactic.

without a doubt the AH-64E is the most advanced attack helicopter.

China's Z-10 is the most recent and most advanced helicopter in the world. Simulations have show it is able to take out AH64s, AH1Zs, and A10s with ease.

>definitely, not only are MANPADS quite short ranged when compared to ATGM fired from helo's, most modern helos also feature DIRCM and newer counteremasures. These effectively negate the use of all strela and the older Igla's. Until actual optical seekers become commonplace, countermeasures will be effective.

>apart from loiter, it can also hang behind trees and pop up. Something that planes do not. Only low level strike missions are comparable in exploiting this tactical advantage.
What are considered to be the current best and most advanced attack helicopters and what are the current developments in attack helicopter technology?
I'd say the Apache and the KA-52. With an edge going to the KA-52. Apart from its layout and cockpit design it also features newer and more innovative weapons. Not to say you could not mount the same on an Apache and it probably has been researched already (such as with ARM, drone launching/controlling and data linked missiles) but it just has not been demonstrated publicly.

>Wu Ximing (吴希明) of the 602nd Research Institute, one of the Chinese top scientists involved in the 863 Program was publicly credited with being the chief designer of the Z-10, in an attempt to preserve the secrecy of the Kamov contract.

Honestly while this was very likely written by a Chinese source. I really is very straight forward and not too Jingoistic or anything, I'm pleasantly surprised.

A zero-zero ejection seat weighs hundreds of pounds.

>Mr. Li Meng and his team made breakthroughs in all of these areas and with the new techniques they developed, the production was greatly improved, with the energy cost reduced by 90%, production cycles shortened by more than five sixths, and molds needed reduced by five sixths also. China has claimed that these breakthroughs enabled Chinese productivity to reach its western counterparts.[citation needed] In addition to the composite material, there are four titanium alloy layers on the leading edge of every blade.

>China never had such advanced technology and Mr. Li Meng had to lead his team to develop it on their own, and finished the job ahead of schedule

lol this is a wikipedia page about a helicopter. not to mention the article basically details how this aircraft is purely stolen ideas from other aircraft.
