The m1911 was literally the basis of the most famous code of how to safely carry a pistol.
Basically, cocked and ready but with the safety on.

I store all my guns (with revolvers the only exception) with a round in the chamber, cocked, and safety on if there is one.

This.

Condition 1....
> Condition 0 = paperweight
> Condition 2 = semi paperweight

Risky safety can always come off

no safety = safe kids

Modern 1911s also have a plunger safety newfag. This will stop the firing pin from striking home if the weapon is dropped or if the manual safety becomes disengaged

While im not sure about the special effects part that is pretty much guaranteed not to be from the glock exploding. There isnt enough of a charge to do that much damage in a pistol round. It can and will fuck up your week if it goes south but the frame and innards of the gun will take the brunt of the damage and force of the explosion. Light burns and cuts would be the worst you would probably get in a pistol.
