Finally got this today. been waiting on it for what seems like forever.
>>34058412
Congrats. Have fun finding mags with non broken springs. Dicks broke so many I hate it. Also its an amazing rifle and easily out shoots most if not all other semi autos from its era. Good purchase if you got it for 900-1100.
>>34058431
Got it on gb for 910. Im hoping I dont need another mag for it. ever.
>>34058464
Honestly the idea behind these and everything of the time was to never remove the mag, just load it from the top and only remove it if you absolutely have to. Don't put your dick in the receiver and pull back either. She bites pretty damn hard.
>>34058412
Fuck yeah Ljungman bro
>>34058756
Had any trouble with the ammo for the ljungman?
Heard they are awful picky
>>34058412
w2c?? just watch IV8888's video. i'm so fucking hard rn desu
>>34058835
Not a bit. I've mostly used Prvi and Wolf Gold and had no trouble.
Got my Ross 1905 in yesterday.
>>34058412
>tfw you're still not a great shot and only really own combloc stuff but at least it was beautiful today
>even had your groups get a bit better and finally starting to get used to iron sights on a non 22lr rifle
Someday I'll get myself a garand and a mauser, but for today my Finn nuggets and mak pistols were a good time.
For some reason the one with rougher rifling/bore is way more accurate than the more pristine one, I have no idea why.
Nice buy anon I'm jelly

I have an interest in building a C96 up from a bare frame using parts from another gun. I assume this isn't going to be nearly as easy as my AR was, but how much of a hassle am I in for?

>>34060634
I love when raids come, it's a source of slaves and other shit to sell. Especially since I'm only ever raided by tribals. Plasteel weapons are great for trade or smelting. The only thing I get nervous about is toxic fallout. My last colony eventually died from it (in a round about way).

Okay guys.
Gunshow Saturday, I have a little cash (not much over $100) but I'm bringing shit to sell (old mags, FALs parts, old ammo I can't use) and I'm gonna Ben looking for cool surplus.
BUT.
I have decided to look for one thing in particular.
I would like an accurate surplus gun.
Which is better.
The M39/whatever Finn Mosin I can find and afford
OR.
A K31/whatever Swiss straight pull I can find me afford.
Which one had better barrels?
I'll reload for it either way, so the normal quality of the surplus ammo doesn't matter too much.
Also, keep in mind I'll be comparing the conditions and inspecting the firearms in general.
>>34060881
K31 hands down
but youre gonna need a bit more than $100 and the 20 bucks those parts mags and ammo will fetch ya.
>>34060514
http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/c96frameonly.aspx
Good luck and God speed anon.
Now go and scour numrich gun parts for everything else you glorious bastard!
>>34060881
>Which one had better barrels?
the one that didn't see any wartime service. i'll leave it to you to figure out which one that is.
>>34060894
>$20
I have an FAL barrel, an inch pattern bolt and assorted parts, an extra stock, original French made 7.5 French, 7.5x55 Swiss, 8x56r (nazi era Steyr production on clips in boxes) Russian (izhevsk) production black '74 mags and shitloads of K31 clips.
I also have a bunch of oddball mixed .303 British (a 32 round box of POF November of '68 manufacture and some Norma made soft point)
I also feel like I'm forgetting something.
I wait until the gun show comes around so this shit doesn't make up enough of my pay check to constitute needing a license (for now; I'll eventually apply for a license and expand into an actual business instead of some fucker with a crate and sign strapped to himself who walks around screaming "GET YOIR ODDBALL CLIPS AND AMMO! ONLY THE FRESHEST OF K31 FOOD! ONLY THE NICEST OF SURPLUS! BEST DEALS IN THE SHOW!")
One day I'll be able to sell ammo and clips and mags more than just once a year...maybe I'll even be able to afford a table.
>>34060930
Also, I've made as much as $120 back before I reinvested that into more ammo and shit for next years show.
I expect to make a little more this year.
>>34060896
>http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/c96frameonly.aspx
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxPF9AeHznE
Seriously though, I think buying a complete mixmaster to populate the new frame is the easiest way to go. Numrich is sold out of most of the major components (barrel, bolt, etc.) and individual parts seem to be difficult to come by in general.
I was hoping they'd have the magazine release because it's one of the few components that isn't found on standard C96s, but that's sold out too.
>>34060946
Huh.
Check gunbroker.
They tend to have a number of C96 parts floating around (I actually looked into the same thing a few years back but didn't have the cash and preferred an FAL at the time)
>>34060930
see thats better. than just saying "parts and ammo"
That being the case. Keep the k31 clips of your cause guess what youll be getting!
>>34060955
>Check gunbroker.
Only barrel I saw earlier today was relined and they wanted $400 for it.
>>34060960
I hope.
My area doesn't normally have K31s for some reason.
I will try and snag one of the $500 Ljungman (or is it a Hakim?) that come back gunshow after gunshow (nobody's picked them up yet and I've fondled them three years in a row; wonder what's wrong with them?)
>>34060971
>Ljungman
if it was made in Sweden
>Hakim
if it was made in Egypt
>>34060980
I haven't seen them since last year man.
I know the fucking difference.
At least one booth had a Hakim (8mm Mauser, made in Egypt)
But there were two in one of the booths that for some reason always come up and I can't remember if they were 6.5x55 or 8mm Mauser.
>>34060990
Thinking on it, does a Ljungman have the same problem with commercial 6.5x55 as a Hakim has with commercial 8mm Mauser?
>>34060996
Why would a Hakim have problems with commercial 8mm Mauser? It's weak as hell compared to the heavy ball it's designed to use.
>>34061007
Apparently some have problems feeding soft nosed bullets. Not to mention all that Romanian trash floating around
>>34061018
SHIT YOUR WHORE MOUTH, ROMANIAN HAS GIVEN ME THE BEST ACCURACY AND VELOCITY I'VE EVER MANAGED TO SQUEEZE FROM MY MAUSER!
On a side note what's wrong with it exactly?
Are are we talking the green lacquer or the red lacquered surplus?
>>34061027
I'm talking the modern "non WWII dimension" stuff you'll see on sale every now and then. It's incredibly inconsistent or even out of spec and I've only ever heard negative feedback about it. I just use surplus m75 Yugo for all my 8mm needs
>>34061053
I actually still have roughly 20 rounds I bought almost four years ago I just don't want to shoot.
The negative reviews are all correct; it's out of spec and thus damn near impossible to cycle in a rifle.
The Yugo ammo is wonderful but the supply has dried up where I am, and I'm still using my old Iranian shit either way.
>>34058412
im looking for a kar98k online, having a hell of a time finding one though. id even take a yugo or a russian capture, but jesus theyre hard to get your hands on if theres not one locally. anyone know any good sites that arent fucking ripoffs?(mitchells mausers area fucking joke)
>>34061166
Thor Yugo M48s are NOT Kar98Ks.
I learned that the hard way by paying $700 for a Yugo M48 that's "just a Kar98K but made by the Yugoslavians; it's really just the same thing"
>>34061177
the yugo ones ive found onlone are usually 250-350. id be willing to pay the 250 range at most for a yugo, though would prefer russian c/r
>>34061194
Again, the Yugoslavian ones aren't actually Kar98Ks.
They recievers and bolts are made to a slightly thicker spec as a result of different (note: not inferior as it turns out but they didn't want to risk it) specs.
The bolt throw is apparently also slightly shorter.
You might say Yugos are ultra large ring Mausers.
Frankly I'd like to see what one could do with some old Yugo actions...
>91/59 on the way
>Type 38 carbine on the way
>Type 99 on the way
Next week can't come soon enough.
>>34061215
>The bolt throw is apparently also slightly shorter.
I believe it was hicock who did a side-by-side comparison. If you put a clip in on a K98k there's like...2mm of free space in front of the tip of the bullet. In the M48 there's about 1mm.

>>34061391
LSA 1904 Manufacture hnnnng
Anyone have experience with K98s scratching brass? Mine is scratching the top of the case just behind the shoulder, but I can't see any burrs in the chamber. Also, should the cartridge be fully seated into the bolt face before it fully enters the chamber? Mine gets the case maybe two thirds up before the bolt closes to where I can't see the case anymore.
I'm thinking the two might be connected - that the shoulder might just be scraping the top of the chamber because the extractor is a little too tight and won't allow the case to fully slide up onto the bolt face in time.
Is this something I should care about? I'm intended to reload, so I'd prefer the brass to be as intact as possible. Any ideas for how I might fix it?
>>34061405
This thing is absoloutely covered in Markings. Was converted to grenade launcher status during WW1, could very well have seen service at Gallipoli.
>>34061391
>>34061398
>>34061405
>>34061422
That's really fucking cool. Given its former life as a grenade launcher, is the bore pretty fucked up?
Behold my only Lee-Enfield.
>>34061490
She was actually rebarrelled in 1922 and tossed in a reserve armory thereafter it seems, has a VG bore with a hint of corrosion.
Pic is of my 1893 ZAR South African Republic Mauser captured during the 2nd Boer War.
>>34061557
Nice. Where'd you find that?
>>34059134
Grats! Love mine too.
>>34061027
I've got some of the green lacquered shit, it's so inconsistent and so far out of spec that out of the 5 rounds I tried only 1 properly chambered in my M95M. I did some research and found out that the case mouth diameter is larger than spec, which causes the majority of the issues. I mainly use Prvi because that's what's in my area, probably gonna try some Sellier & Bellot soon because it's apparently the only full milspec load on the market and it isn't much more than Prvi in my area.
>>34061215
>the Yugoslavian ones aren't actually Kar98Ks.
Except there are 98ks made by the Yugoslavians and even more that were used by them after WW2 as war reparations. Karl on InRange has one.
>>34061409
It's fine, relax. Unless it's completely crushing your shoulder it's not gonna hurt anything.

>>34060728
And here I thought I had autism, and then this fucking guy shows up.
>>34063119
At least yours has a rear sight and the lifter
It's a real nice shooter if you haven't shot it yet. Just make sure you can't pull the bolt back if you hold the trigger down. It feels like the pawl is the only thing that keeps the bolt from flying into your face
>>34060025
Is this in ontario? What range is that? I feel like I've seen it before
>>34063714
At least I'm not talking about Dwarf Fortress.
>>34063136
I remember helping you. it was either a 35m puska or 43m.
>>34063136
Picture looks like Puska 31M, a slightly updated version of the Steyr-Mannlicher Model 1895 carbine/stutzen short rifle.
>>34063773
As far as I can tell the bolt seem fine and free of any of the issues that the rifle is known for in that area. I didn't think to do that particular test though so Ill try that when I get home from work.
I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm really looking forward to it. I don't know too too much about the firearm, but found it available for a really good price and it seemed like a neat piece of Canadian history.
>>34060964
Ebay is also a good place to look for misc parts. I managed to get the only replacement extractor for an Inglis Hi-Power on the entire internet there a few weeks ago.
>>34063885
>>34063773
Also, this may be a dumb question, but could you explain what exactly the "Lifter" is meant for? Never run in to this before and I haven't found a use for it yet.
>>34063773
Not a dumb question at all. The Ross MkII magazine follower is actually on an arm hinged on a pin just after the front sight. Not on this picture (but you can see the holes where it's attached) is a device you can use to push down the follower to allow easy insertion of ammo or jiggle it in the case of rimlock
>>34064332
Also sorry for shit picture. I didn't look hard enough for a better one. This one even has the lifter
>>34064332

and there's no youtube videos on diassembly of the mk2.
>>34064473
I can make a vid if you want, it's actually not that bad, just that getting the fuggin feed lips and mag cutoff properly aligned is the nightmare part. I'm at work, but I'll try to get something out in the afternoon
>>34063800
Kentucky actually, just a simple public gun range the NRA set up
>>34060764
crown is worse too, at least as far as I can tell. The accurate one is a 32 Izzy comparred to the 40 Tula, so maybe that's why? Both were clearly rebuilt by the Finns though so I honestly have no idea
So I was giving my Hakim a thorough cleaning to get ready for my range trip and I noticed that it has a crack or a piece of wood missing in front of the magazine. Is this a serious issue that would make it unsafe to shoot?
>>34058412
Local pawn shop has a hakim for $800
Looks ok on the outside?
Whats the current rate on these?
>>34065332
800 is pretty fair maybe a little bit high
>>34065332
Got mine for right at $500 so try and talk them down
Would PPU 7mm Mauser be safe to shoot in that spic 1916 mauser, or would it be too hot? I'm thinking of getting some so I can at least have some brass to get into reloading.
>>34065643
Yes, its fine.
>>34065696
thanks
>>34065643
Any US market ammo labeled "7mm Mauser" will be safe to shoot in an M1916.
>>34062842
Gosh that's good looking, I am not huge into Japanese rifles my 99 was my fix, but I NEED to own one of these now. Looks so handy. Are they 6mm or 7.7? What's going rate on them?
>>34065769
Type 38s are 6.5 Jap.
>>34065726
Thanks. I'll buy some then. Along with a reloading press maybe. Know of any good ones that aren't too expensive?
>>34065790
Thanks, well it can't be harder to find than 7.7 lol thank goodness I reload anyway will just get the dies.
I always am looking for an excuse for new rounds anyway.
>>34065769
Type 38 carbines are 6.5 and usually run around 350. The Type 30 carbines usually go for double or more.
>>34065807
6.5 Jap is a lot cheaper actually for some reason.
>>34065844
More type 38 bringbacks probably
>>34065826
I'm a manlet so it looks great for a woods rifle since I don't have to worry about bear. I'll never understand how people on avg 4" shorter dealt with the 99s, parades make them look like a darn Spartan Phalanx.
>>34065844
Good to know, I'm told it's quite pleasant to shoot as well.
>>34065861
Or possibly that the 7.7 Jap bullets are slightly larger and need to be custom made while 6.5 is .264 which is a standard size?
>>34065874
The 99 isn't really that long. It's a good short rifle.
Except the 99 longs.
>>34065877
Nah 7.7 just uses .311 diameter bullets, same as 303 brit
>>34065874
The 6.5 Jap is basically an intermediate round. It's equivalent in power to 6.5 Grendel, slightly more power than 5.56.
>>34065948
>300+ ftlb more energy than NATO ball
>slightly more powerful
>>34065938
I've read and don't trust it that jap's used to use capture 303 even. But yea it's an .311 round I just keep an eye for brass but theres ways to make it off 3006 and something else.
>>34065874
>>34065948
>>34065976
Whoops. Wikipedia switches measurements all the time. So it's a lot more powerful than 5.56 NATO, but much less powerful than standard "full power" calibers.
>>34065978
PPU makes excellent brass for 7.7. No need to reform from another cartridge.
>>34065978
I really doubt that Japs were using captured 303 rounds in type 99s or anything else for that matter
>>34066019
The IJN used .303-cailber machine guns in aircraft.
>>34066019
They weren't but the 7.7 is based heavily on the 303 (aside from the rim).
>>34066036
Fun fact: The Brits use the BESA machine gun as the standard for their tanks. It was chambered in 8mm Mauser. It was the ONLY gun in the British inventory that was chambered for that round.
>>34064530
You would be a god to me and the other anon if you did this. I followed the instructions fine in the original manual but a visual reference would be very handy.
>>34064332
Thanks. That makes sense.
Is $250 a good price for a nagant revolver? It comes with some ammo too, maybe 80rds?
>>34066665
That's not a bad deal

>>34067451

>>34067668

>>34067744
Dunno im half tanked. Should probably get someone elses opinion
I had a dream that I wandered into a house with milsurp lining the walls and attempted to steal a weird looking K31 but the police had arrived.
What does this mean?
>>34067781
Fugg, well thanks for a general idea of what to do.
Would anyone be interested in a few pages of a firearms/military supplier/outdoor catalog published in 1911 ('70s reprint)?

>>34068732
I just realized these pictures are very yurofag friendly, the description being in German, French and Spanish as well as English.
>>34068755
Mmmmmmm.... Colts.
>>34065332
I paid $735 for mine last summer. They're nice, except they're very finicky with ammo. They run well with Priv Partizan and milsurp Romanian ammo, but that's about it: most ammo is too hot. Also be prepared to get smelly gas blown back into your face.
>>34068770
And to finish for tonight, an oddity. Advertised as a 10-shot, with a 6-shot pictured.
There's literally hundreds of these pictures in this book, name a gun that was popular pre-1911 and it'll probably be in there. No Colt M1911, though might have been published before March.
Nice buy OP, I snagged mine for $600 last summer
>>34065259
>>34067668
Won't effect anything. The action screw clamps the top and bottom together so that area shouldn't be under stress during firing.
It probably cracked out when someone shot it with loose screws.
Easy fix, just don't do what that gorilla below you said. Epoxy is far better, gorilla glue expands and will just push the halves apart and wood glue can't handle recoil.
>>34069044
So just get some epoxy or Acraglass and coat the edges and around the inside? I've used Tite-bond to repair handguards and non-stress areas before, would that also work?
Finally!
>>34069290
Apologies for the worse than usual photo quality but it is a tad too dark out for my usual pictures.
>>34069325
Holy fuck the action and trigger are nice. I know that history vindicates the Mauser in the end but if I was just going on initial impressions I'd drop any Mauser like a hot sack of shit. I wonder why the Mannlicher didn't find more success?
>>34067474
Any gun shows in the area? Make sure you check any remotely local message boards as there's some that aren't big enough to get wide exposure, and those can have some great stuff.
To be sure, are you including pawn shops in your count of gun stores? If you aren't then start visiting pawn shops too.
>>34060462
A. Fucking why? That'll end up more expensive.
B. There are no screws in a C96, it's held together by German Wizard Magic.
C. got bored
>>34067168
I wish I had this video earlier when I took mine apart.
I would add if it is a full length stock that you can't physically remove the bands since the front barrel band has a giant chunk of metal in the front.
>>34060512
I think it's bizarre that you need to write a list of things that you want. Just want them, why make a list? Solid list.
for any one with a Vetterli here's the data I've gathered so far trying to make a good black powder cartridge for it. the original cartridge was a 10.4x38r firing a 334gr .429 bullet at 1345fps. my fire formed 8mm lebel casings are 40.25 mm in length to seat commercial bullets. I'd recommend the 45gr of 3f with the cream of wheat filler and a cardboard wad.
>>34069637
how hard is it to find a vertelli that shoots smokeless?
>>34069637
>>34069680
my first listed load is a smokeless load, it's just not as fun as the black powder loads. it uses a lot of filler so it's dirty to shoot as well.
>>34069696
so if I find a 6.5 carcanno vertelli I shouldn't load PPU 6.5 carcanno? since it will overpressure and blow the gun up?
>>34069718
They should not be fired at all with regular ammo.
Even downloaded ammo can be risky. They were emergency use only for a reason.
As someone in Commiefornia, with a bit of a focus on price, would I be better off getting a milsurp or buying an AR and getting the MA loader. Or is there anything else?
>>34061166
http://www.empirearms.com
>>34069631
Not him but
>Why make a list?
To keep track of what you want. I'm working on my own list with levels of priority so that I can stay focused on what I want/need the most to keep from spending money on things that I actually want less just because they're more available.
I want to take a milsurp bolt gun and sporterize it, like pic related. What gun(s) are common enough that I wouldn't be 'ruining' anything rare?
>>34070147
An L42 isn't a sporterized Enfield, it's an armory conversion of an old .303 infantry rifle to a 7.62 NATO snipers rifle.
>>34070147
Mosin Nagant.
Or you can buy one of the guns that have already been ruined.
>>34070166
Right, I guess I wasn't clear in my question.
I want to make something like that; to take a bolt gun and modify similarly.
>>34069718
>>34069860
My 1891 carcanno measures out at .268 groove to groove, my Italian Vetterli m70/87/15 measures .266 groove to groove. military 6.5 military round nose is .264 in diameter and the PPU is .262 in diameter. I wouldn't fire factory or military ammo through it but I'll start working on a good slightly undersized, cast, low pressure load for it soon.
>>34070147
You can find Latin American carbine Mauser actions and barrels for cheap on gunbroker...

To keep things grounded, to help work towards obtaining them, to work out which you would choose if you can only have one and two or more are available, and to keep track of shit. My "list" is around 80 guns now and I'm sure I'll find more to add before the year is up.
>>34070180
Remington 700.
>>34070196
Good grief what guns are you into besides trash sticks?
>>34070106
>M91/30 for $325
Jeez I thought my lgs was bad for wanting $299
>>34070231
Nope. 91/30s are going for $300 now. What a world we live in.
>>34070231

>>34070207

Que?
>>34060445
Lucky you, surviving long enough to die to disease. My first random settler looked funny at the pissy bitch from my starting batch and they beat each other to death over the course of several days and many fights. Then those left alive were killed by fucking toxic rain or some shit. 15 raiders couldn't fuck me up like that stuck up cunt did. It felt very dwarf fortress.
On the topic of guns, I am going to buy a new slav toy, should it be some flavor of tok, or a nagant revolver?
Am I the only person alive who likes the chicom spike bayonets for the SKS better than the european blade ones?
>>34070411
Probably, you deviant.
>>34070369
Get a Tokarev, they're lots of fun.
>>34070202
Do you think that an enfield is too precious to chop up?
>>34070479
More likely someone getting a hair up their ass to mangle a gun doesn't rate using one that has any real value.
>>34060286
>tfw never enough money for milsurp
>tfw live in Portland and 90% of the women are anti-funs
>tfw starting to accept that I will never have a girl who loves funs

>>34070484
Could you please reiterate?
>>34070494
bring the funs to them
>>34070479
If you wanna waste a few hundred bucks to achieve nothing go for it bucko.
>>34070494
Loving funs is just one of a laundry list of reasons I expect to be forever alone.
>>34058412
My friend wants to trade me his sporterized M1917 (only the stock has been cut) for my Ishapore 2A1. Does it sound like a fair trade?
>>34070509
Understood, I'm really just looking for something a bit custom that has a scope mount
>>34070494
My wife was anti as fuck when we first met. It's called being charming, it's not particularly hard.
>>34070451
What flavor do you recomend? 9mm, or in 7.62 tok? Chinese, romanian, original? There are so damn many of them.
>>34070529
>It's called being charming, it's not particularly hard.
where do you think we are?
>>34070523
That'd be a Remington 700. Or a Savage 110. Or a Ruger American. Or Stevens 200.
Noticing a trend?
>>34070543
I am now, thank you. I'm rather new to guns, that's why I ask for advise before doing something stupid, like chopping an old rifle.
>>34070534
7.62, Polish or Russian if you wanna drop the money. But those are my tastes. You might like a 9mm Yugo more.
ayyee mas 36 fans
>>34070549
Ok if you're new I'll stop acting like an ass... maybe.
Anyways if you want a scoped rifle you can trick out milsurp isn't the way to go. You're gonna spend a lot of money, destroy irreplaceable history, and end up with a worse rifle than any bargain bin modern hunting rifle. I'd go with a Savage personally because I hate Remington but that's me. They have plenty of aftermarket for customisation down the road and some of the best barrels around, in a ton of calibers.
>>34070568
ayy lmao
>>34070568
also some m48a action bb
>>34070575
Awesome, thank you. I didn't see any wood stocks when I looked up the Savage 110. Is that an available product?
>>34070591
Yup, both from the factory and on the aftermarket.
www.boydsgunstocks.com/rapid-fire-closeouts/savage.
>>34070591
Wooden stocks are uncommon these days, you're going to have to pay a premium for them. You can instead find older sporting rifles all over the place, from pawn shops to gun shows, that were made back when wood stocks were common.
>>34070610
These are some great looking stocks, thanks for the info.
>>34070611
$100-200 isn't too bad, I'd say. I don't trust gun modifications by people I don't know
>>34070549
Modern hunting sporters are basically Mausers (all modern bolt actions are based on the mauser action), available in whatever caliber you can think of, with scope rails and a huge variety of aftermarket parts.
If you go peruse your local pawn shops you'll almost definitely find an old Remington 700 in .30-06, .270, .243, 6mm rem, or .308 for less than 500 bucks. and it'll probably come with irons and a bushnell scope
And those guns will be worlds more accurate than a milsurp battle rifle
>>34070676
>all modern bolt actions are based on the mauser action
You mean all modern actions have front locking lugs? That came from the Lebel.
>>34070709
Your Ouiaboo is showing.
>>34070717
Except I'm right. Most sporting actions aren't "based on the Mauser". The Savage action I was talking about shares almost no similarities aside from the locking lugs. The Tikka T3, no similarities aside from the locking lugs. Same goes for the 700.
The model 70 and the CZ actions are the only ones I can think of that are Mauser based.
>>34070740
>CZ action
Only the 550 action, which has mostly been supplanted by the 557 that is more in line with the Remington 700.
>>34070709
>>34070740
w/e, my point is that modern sport bolt guns took the tech developed by the military battle rifles and adapted it to a much more comfortable, customizable, and accurate modern hunting implement.
It was my understanding that the Mauser was the first standardized military rifle with front locking lugs, guess I was mistaken.
>>34070769
Mauser's two claims to fame were the full length ejector that he popularised and the stripper clip, which was also independently invented by Lee.
Everything else he did was based on other rifles. The Mauser brothers were mediocre engineers but excellent salesmen and factory managers.

The Mas and the Carcano definitely.

Do any of you know if it is safe to shoot PPU 7mm Mauser out of my 1859 Chilean? I don't want my gun to explode in my face.
>>34072799
yes, PPU is loaded to sami specs and are pretty light rounds
>>34070841
Fuck guys, I dont have that much cash, def buying the MAB D and the Carcano, will have to see if I can sell a few things and get the MAS, not really interested in anything else desu.
>>34073007
If you can buy it I will. Also you owe your friend a brojob after this.
>>34073007
The MAS is a much better deal than the carcano.
buy it, flip it, and then buy the carcano AND that romanian .22
Praise Christ the weather is overcast and shitty all weekend here.
>>34073222
Also holy fuck this thing was rusty under the wood. Glad I got to cleaning it today.
Do I need to take my gun apart before bagging it or will the Cosmoline come out even if the action is still in the stock?
>>34073239
However the bore is near immaculate. Probably sat on a ship it's entire service and saw less than 100 rounds before being surplused.
>>34073239
7mm?
>>34073239
Nice one. How much was it?
>>34073246
Now I just need some brass and some clips and I can see how the old girl shoots.
>>34073247
6.5 Dutch.
>>34073258
$650. I consider a steal for how rare it is. But I'm probably wrong.
>>34073273
>>34073246
>>34073239
kewl find. $650 was pretty steep for that, but like you said, they are really rare - so its whatever its worth to you.
check out what i got for $350
>>34058412
$260 for a re-arsenaled yugo mauser kar 98k clone, good or bad deal? Receiver and stock match, but the bolt doesnt. Action is smooth. My dumb ass was so excited I forgot to look at the bore. Assuming the bore is good or better, is the price right?
>>34073383
Fuck you, I paid 2x that for mine.
What year is it?
>>34073412
1917 Erfurt
>>34073402
M24 or M48?
M48s were selling for about $300 in near perfect condition. But I think that's a decent price for an M24.
now i have to update my family photo --- maybe ill be able to get on a step ladder and squeeze the long 98s in to this as well.
>>34073383
Where do you find that?
>>34073427
local gun store.
got the rifle for $250 (it was in a 98k stock)
>>34073426
2nd from bottom
same LGS had the all matching stock for $100
so $350 and I have a complete spare 98k stock.
>>34073419
Im not sure. It said "model 98" on the other side of the receiver. It's got a bent bolt and the little recess in the stock for the bent bolt. (The receiver and stick are matching so im assuming the original bolt also had the bent handle)
Also the guy said if I paid cash he'd give me a discount
>>34073419
>>34073454
After closer inspection Im 99% sure its an m48
>>34073471
If you can get the cash discount that's a great price, if you can't it's a good price, unless you REALLY want it to match.
>>34073383
>>34073436
Good deal. How much still matches?
>>34073402
$250 is fair these days.
>>34073402
>>34073454
If it says "Mod.98" on the receiver wall then it's a German-made Kar.98k refurbished/rebuilt by Yugoslavia in the 1950s. These are sometimes called Mod.98/48 or Mod.98(n).
>>34073454
If it says mod 98 it's probably an m98/48 friendo
>>34073525
>>34073528
Oh sick. The guy told me it was "part german" but I thought he might be trying to sucker me.
Does that make it a better deal?
>>34073548
It's like>>34073525
said, it's an ok deal if the bore is good. If the rusty one I got is any indication it's bore is probably just fine.
>>34073417
Ok, I'm slightly less jealous.
Slightly.
>>34073525
everything on the stock - both pieces of wood, all the metal bits - match
barrel /receiver/some of the screws match
bolt matches itself.
IIRC the magazine floorplate is a rando - but aside from that its basically 3 rifles.
>>34073579
>all that pitting
>>34073436
98k stock is easily worth $100 even more if it's not russian. You got a steal
>>34073602
Yup. She had a hard life. Still the only Mauser I actually like to shoot.
>>34073484
>>34073525
>>34073528
>>34073576
Last question: should I be worried at all about headspacing?
>>34073718
No. Mausers aren't particularly headspace sensitive, but even if they were it's a overblown issue. Poor headspace will usually only lead to harder extraction and bulged primers, the former of which is mitigated by that big fucking extractor.
>>34073718
Bump pls
>>34070841
>>34073007
Alight, buying the Carcano and MAB-D, brother buying the MAS-36, so if my brother ever decides to sell it ill buy it off him I guess. I also purchased an FR-8 for 200 and an AMD-65 og parts kit build for 450 from the same guy awhile ago.
>>34073843
Thanks man. Probably gonna buy this thing within the hour
>>34073661
its all Weimar and has a nazi marked front band
>>34073853
Hope you like it.
>>34073242
Anyone have an answer for this?
>>34073718
I wouldn't worry about it.
>>34074079
It'll still come out, but disassembling the rifle will be the most thorough way to remove cosmo. Immerse the metal parts in mineral spirits for a couple days and the cosmo will dissolve, and you can just pull the parts out and wipe them dry.
>delays after delays after delays
reeeeeeeeeeeee, why is this so frustrating.
>>34074079
The way I cleaned my M48 when I got was to soak all the metal parts in unleaded gasoline. It makes all the cosmoline come right off.
>>34074079
Seems logical to remove it for one thorough cleaning
>>34074297
>>34074054
Thanks for the help guys. I ended up paying $247 after tax, which I guess isn't stellar, but it's the best ive seen, and I really wanted it
The bore has a light layer of surface rust, but no apparent pitting, and the rifling is strong. Gonna give her the ol' copper bore brush treatment and grease her up.
>>34075450
It's pretty good for what is essentially a K98. You did pretty good on price champ.
I was at work all day and my sighthood for my m48 arrived. Dad decided to put it on himself. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's not right at all.
>>34075826
hes not too far off
>>34075842
Should I just tap it the rest of the way on then or what
>>34075861

Want to get either a mosin or an sks.
for those who have shot either, tell me your experiences and whether you enjoyed it. sks seems pretty all-around good but at the same time mosins get me intrigued.
Armslist has a yugo sks up for $425 w/ two dozen stripper clips, 200 rounds of ammo, and a chest bandolier for it all to go in. How is that value-wise?
>>34076207
sks are fun to shoot. I dont think you will find a cheaper semi auto surp rifle. Id get one of those mosins are mosins and they cost too much money these days
>>34076220
>Cost too much money
Uh huh.
This sold for the price listed by the way.
>>34076236
I think $99 was too much for a mosin. You have quite the collection of gb sales images on those though
>>34076207

>>34076245

>>34076236
That's because it's an antique and no longer legally a firearm. A felon probably bought it.
>>34076274

>>34075826

>>34076274
No, retard. A rich collector bought it. There are tons of antiques on GB for 400-600 bucks even very nice Finish M39s, no felon gonna pay 9 grand
>>34069351
Probably didn't pull enough military contracts to help it compete with the Mauser. Great rifles but some of them cost too much for common folk to buy.
>>34076740
Meant some of the civi made rifles.
>>34076740
Well that's what I mean, I'm wondering why the Mannlicher didn't meet with more success in the international military market? Probably poor marketing and business decisions. Maybe Othias has a answer.
>>34076934
Jews.
No really, it's probably because Ludwig and Isadore Loewe controlled all these various factories, including Waffenfabrik Steyr and Mauser Werke. Why compete against yourself when you already have a highly successful product line in the Mauser series?
>>34077028
But they did compete against each other all over Europe.
>>34077060
The designs competed in trials, but it was always going to be the same factories producing the rifles.
And worldwide Mauser's designs buried the competition.
BTW, since you dig Mannlichers/Gew.88s so much you should find a Haenel Model 1909; the last gasp of Schelgelmilch's bolt design.
>>34077060
How would you improve upon say a 95 or 98 mauser design?
>>34077201
I almost bought one of these those in 7mm
>regret
>>34077060
>>34077207
Also lol at mannlicher lock time and wtf bolt handle in face
>>34077207
by having the Czechs make it
>>34077207
The way Mauser did with the 1910 design; further enclose the case head inside the chamber by recessing the bolt face into the barrel itself. Like Nambu did; eliminating the ejector cut in the locking lug and adding gas escape holes for the Type-38. Check out the Mauser Model 1918 for what would have been the ultimate development of turnbolt Mauser designs (I know, there's a Mod.1929, but AFAIK no prototypes survived, assuming they ever existed).

>>34060728
>>34060792
I'm sorry for being retarded but what are you talking about? It sounds fun.
>>34077201
The only one of those I've seen is $8000. So while it's on my list, it's a low priority at the moment.
>>34077207
It's hard for me to answer that question because I have the benefit of hindsight and don't have to deal with production costs. But if I could make few general suggestions/ideas....
Universal short rifle
Tangent aperture rear sight
Winged front sight
Pencil barrel to reduce weight
Full length handguard
Rotary magazine
Stripper clip fed
Arisaka dust cover and action
6.5x55 cartridge would be pushed
To me this amalgamation would be the best bolt action, but probably too costly/difficult to manufacture for anyone but America.

thats a sexy firearm
I want to cast my own bullets, and having done plenty of googling everyone seems to advise slugging the barrel for milsurp rifles to make sure your bullets fit well even if you are just reloading without casting bullets. Honestly I feel a bit unsure about pounding a lead fishing weight and some cheap wooden dowel lengths down my rifle. is there some way to make a wax mold or some shit? or a better way that slamming lead down the fucking thing and praying it doesn't get lodged in there?
What's the going rate for a Tokarev these days?
