.410 Bore is for small game.

You could use 20 Gauge but it won't be as light and could probably ruin more meat/pelt. I think .410 is generally best for rabbits and small birds.

A 4" Redhawk or 629 would be a much more practical defensive handgun than a .410 revolver ever could hope to be.

What are you on? Hollow points might not have much more "knock down punch" than a regular slug. But that is far from the only reason to use them. Blood loss from the channel left by a HP is vastly greater than slugs. It's why I use them when hunting. If the deer doesn't go down on the first shot, the blood loss will get it before it goes far. Not to mention in a self defense firearm HP's reduce the odds of over penetration and collateral injury/death. Pull your head out of your ass. I use a Governor in .410 to hunt ptarmigan/grouse. I've never had to shoot twice or while it's flying but I have no doubt I could shoot a bird out of the air. Plus .410's are a light shell so I can carry a bunch without worrying about weight.

Really, all you're doing is using the exact same lead you would use with any other shotgun bore size (pellet weight and muzzle velocity are the same), just being more careful about putting the bead in the exact center of the extended flight path of the target.
