DOTM & Marksmanship General
Old Thread: >>34048637
Welcome to Month 2 anons! Come shoot the Sweet 16 with us!
>rules in pic
>You don't have to shoot with a duty/carry handgun, but you are encouraged to, this is the "limited" division and the heart and soul of our drills
>you are free to modify the rules to enable people with restrictive ranges or atypical handguns as long as you remain within the spirit.
>Shooting with an odd duck gun or unconventional gun is considered in the "open" division
>you may shoot these drills as many times as you want and are encouraged to post results with pictures and content
>these threads are designed to promote participation and meaningful training and practice
>we try to be a little more friendly here, but joking around and typical /k/ humor is welcome
A ez mode target for this is a stack of note cards stapled/taped to a piece of cardboard
"The goal of DOTM is to have fun and get people shooting. With that in mind, shoot this as much as you'd like and share your results. However, some of the drills we post have a certain spirit to them. We encourage you to keep to the intent of the drill, as that will provide you with the most information about your level of skill and thus provide an accurate baseline upon which to improve."

Month 1 DOTM pictured, always a favorite, you are encouraged to try it.
HARDMODE RULES: Combine these rules with the base requirements for S16
Hard Mode Sweet 16:
Shooter will begin with a holstered pistol and with their hands at their sides/defensive position. Pistol is to be holstered in whatever you've got. However, if the holster is not concealed, subtract .5 sections from all PAR times; if the holster has a retention device, use the concealed PAR. On the signal, shooter will draw and fire one round at the 3x5 card and, if successful, move back 1 yard, 3 misses in a row constitute a washout/fail.
Score is furthest distance of a successful hit.
PAR TIMES:
- All shots within 7 yards: PAR of 2.0 seconds.
- All shots between 8 and 15 yards: PAR of 2.5 seconds.
- All shots between 16 and 25 yards: PAR of 3.0 seconds.
All this being posted, I'll post some results within 5 hours. Range trip long overdue.

nice m8, I'm going to give this one more try sometime this week.
Anyone got a link to that other B8 based simple drill for next month? (something like 10 rounds at 15 yard in 15 seconds, 10 rounds at 10 yards 10 seconds, etc)
>>34052951
15 yards, 10 rounds in 15 seconds
10 yards, 10 rounds in 10 seconds
5 yards, 10 rounds in 5 seconds
all shot from the ready on a B8 repair center
>>34053116
Or this version by Tom Givens
NRA B-8 bullseye target
25 yards 5 rounds one minute
15 yards 5 rounds 15 seconds
15 yards 5 rounds 10 seconds
7 yards 10 rounds 15 seconds Fire 5, reload, fire 5

We appreciate your contributions! Sucks your range is so stringent. Would you be able to do a drill like : >>34053116 w/o needing to modify it? I think we are better served with easy access drills.
>>34055142
Yeah, I could do those, or just reaction drills, Mozambique, basically anything that doesn't require a holster or resetting the target every three minutes
Here's our month 1 /k/lass photo - everyone is encouraged to periodically revisit the month 1 FBI bullseye qualifier, shoot it and post results.
>>34051860
i want to do it right now but it's raining.
Mud + wet = no fun
>>34055256
shitty m8
I'll try to limp this months DOTM to the finish line and keep a thread open so hopefully when you do get the opportunity to shoot it there's a thread to post in.
I'll try to carry the fire and shoot this this evening.
Current EZ mode PB for me, 20 yard start, 11 hits, 30 point score, I don't think I'll crack that in these last few days.
OP here
couldn't estimate distances on range and I think I only got to about 12.5m or something shameful like that on S16. At that range, by entire front sight is as large as the target and the lines start to blur, and I forgot the binocs at home.
I also ran the FBI qualifier after that, on slow shoot I already missed 5 shots completely, ended up with a score around 240 which was lower than when i ran it dry the first time. I even gave myself breathing time between shots.
I guess I'm more of a fast intermediate-range shooter.

nice m8 - I've found that I "can't hold it all in my head" and the more I work on one aspect of pistol shooting, the more my ability atrophies in other areas.
In the spirit of keeping DOTM going I shot S16 HARDMODE and DOTM1 today, very windy out, like 20-30 MPH gusts, I struggled.
Haley
yay or nay?
bump - no sweet sweet sub 5 second FASTest in a long spell.
suggestions for month 3 DOTM - Let's hear it now, up thread stuff is promising but let's all have our say.
>>34059041
His fake story bullshit pisses me off and makes me question his integrity as an individual, but the firearms information is sound and worth listening to.
>>34059041
I used to like him, nay.
There's more honorable people that can teach shooting stuff without the mentioning of hyper extensomuscular biomechanical dynamics.
>>34064101
yeah it's a bit over the top at times, still a great instructor and shooter tho
Bumping to save this from nogunz retard thread spam.
>>34066842
thx anon, I was out shooting and was hands off for a bit, nice work. Some OC posts to follow
>>34067388
First strong day of FASTs in a while, sans WML with different carry gear too.
Icy cold, first shots of the day 5.58 clean, I wish it was this way every time.
Link to the FASTest for any anon who is unfamiliar yet curious.

No S16 today - my hard mode scores have plateaued and my EZmode score scares the shit outta me, so I shot 2 DOTM 1 FBI Bullseye qualifiers.
First attempt and tied for my overall PB pictured.
>>34067666
2nnd attempt I was a bit fatigued, mentally more than physically. This was the last shooting I did, the wind had gone from bearable to annoying to disruptive by this point.
>>34051860
are we ever going to see rifle drills again?
>>34072082
>>34051866
Target for FBI bull qual
it is a printer friendly B8 repair center set up for 8.5x11 letter paper. It's used for a ton of drills and is a perfect metric for 25 yard shooting.
>>34065454
Even then, he puts out pretty shitty classes. What I dislike about him is that he sells the skimmer trigger which is a retardely dangerous trigger with no takeup but people buy it because "wow gotta shoot fast like him!"
He's probably cool irl but I would rather spend $300-$500 for an excellent 2 day class than a hyped up $800 one that isn't as good.
>>34072307
I really want to take a class with Gabe White and then Aaron Cowan - GW for technical mastery and proficiency and AC for "in da streetz" mindset stuff.
(Possible) Macro image for month 3.....Thoughts?
>>34073563
still not sold on aaron cowan
he strikes me as one of those GWOT conventional forces guys who thinks he knows everything, but actually is only beginning to scratch the surface. maybe i'm wrong, haven't watched any of his vids in a long time.
>>34075519
He's pretty fluid and incorporates new stuff often, he also calls himself out. That said there are times where he seems overly opinionated and an absolutist on certain topics.
>>34075538
I love videos of self defense from those perspectives. How all you see are the guys enter, then trying to flee, then bullets flying through the glass towards them
>>34075589
>>34075538
I wonder if the dude realizes he killed his friend with that shove.
>>34075632
they're niggers, they don't even give a shit about their own kind
absolute 0 cold FAST - 5.48 clean, why can't it always be like this - webm related
do you guys like the month 3 choice? is it viable enough?
>>34076712
>tfw nowhere near sub 2 sec especially with a 45
124 grn s&b 9x19
I'll post my notecards again to get into the group photo.
I started at two yards (six feet on the 'Murica scale) each time.
Anything for rifles?
I keep going low and right (lefty, so doesn't that reverse the chart of common fuckups?) and can't seem to hit the bullseye.
>>34077962
CG used to be around, he cooked up a DOTM month 2 rifle drill: >>34072105
Haven't seen him in a few days but I expect he'll be back for month 3
monitoring this thread
Month 3 seems good to me
Just shot month 3 dotm. Good stuff will post in a bit
>>34073563
Gabe White is an absolute monster. I admire the fact that he shoots USPSA with his carry gear and I've been looking into getting some form of a bowling pin setup for my next range trip because of him.
I like a lot of Aaron Cowan's videos, his videos on explaining things are concise and I agree with a lot of his stances on certain subjects. The Primary & Secondary modcasts with him as a guest are pretty good.
If you want shooting+street skills, check out Tom Givens, Wayne Dobbs and Darryl Bolke. I strongly recommend picking up link and reading the software part of it if you're in the want of reading street applicable info

Some classes I will most likely go to this year
>some American Red Cross classes
>Kerry Davis, Dark Angel Medical
>Ernest Langdon, Langdon Tactical
>Wayne Dobbs and Darryl Bolke, Hardwired Tactical
>>34084088
Fuck yeah ggg, love all those guys, nice course load too
shot month 3 today for the first time, it went ok, I think I can do better
>>34084337
ice cold, and clean, mirrin consistent sub 5 sec peeps
