She is perfectly average for the show. If she was some gun bunny no one would give her opinion any consideration and there would be more idiotic thirsty BS in the comments than any discussion.

If she was a fatty bo batty they would disregard her as sloven and stupid.

As it is she is just average in appearance and experience. She has opinions about shooting each gun but she isnt a trained or super skillful narrator. It is an "everyman" opinion.

Which would be pretty worthless if this was a modern show on CCW or tactical rifles. But the average WWI soldier only had very basic shooting training. (exceptions apply but those are not the norm)

It is a good foil to Othais who, by the time the episode is filmed, already has a LOT of contextual information and buy in on the gun.

Honestly it depends on what population of people you are studying. Someone from a farm has shown to be much more taller than someone from the city. Nutrition also plays a part,such as with the Japanese in which better nutrition(more milk and Carbs) dramatically increased their height. Height also seems to fluctuate with time. For example, during some years in the Victorian Period people were shorter than in other years. However, you are mostly right. The reason so many people think military men were shorter back then was due to all of the small uniforms they have found. These uniforms were never used but people make the assumption that they were the standard.
