>contract by the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) for the supply of 15 (plus 6 as an option) 8x8 CAESAR® artillery systems to the Danish Army
>15 guns
>15
Poor choice. The danes should have gone with a tracked vehicle like the k9 thunder or the panzerhaubitze 2000.

>>34043810
Have you looked at a map? Denmark is small as fuck and flat as fuck.
>>34043819
>what is NATO
>>34043934
Exactly. Denmark buy 15, which isn't much by it self, but will be effective when put in a NATO context.
>>34043944
>>34043934
Oh sorry if you're referring to the geography of Denmark. Then, yes it might have been wiser to get a tracked vehicles
>>34043785
Thats both extremely expensive and stupid considering the production run.
Just by surplus from somewhere they are better pieces anyway, and cheaper.
>Choosing the bad spec option with more manpower, less automation and more wheels, systems that can fail.
>Have no spare parts commonality with anything in your carpark
>French engineering for a tempered or cold, arctic (greenland) climate.
Betcha this was the politician, budgetarians' choice. Imminent regret.
>330 million DKK(almost $50 million)
jesus tap dancing christ
>>34043785
We actually bought that shit?
Jesus fuck I thought our government couldn't get any worse with defense.
Send them to the Middle East. There is no training and testing better than actual combat.
>>34045125
15 guns
50 million bucks
and no doubt it's a total pile of shit
>>34045209
It's Denmark, they'll be going to Afghanistan.
Why is everyone ITT hating on the CAESAR system?
They worked pretty well in Afghanistan and Iraq.
>>34045309
>$50 million
>15 guns
mounted on lighly armored 8x8 trucks, with nothing fancy equipment/systems
It's not fully automated like pic related artillery system.
>>34045326
>mounted on lighly armored 8x8 trucks, with nothing fancy equipment/systems
Huh
So you don't actually know anything about them then, the automated FCS or anything that they have that's making them so popular?
>>34043785
Doesn't Denmark have a small stockpile of W48's? This could be a quiet response to increased Russian tension combined with an increase in unregistered refugees in Europe.
literally noone is going to buy bofors archer
cucked by their own scandanivian neighbors now
we Wargame now
Otomatics when?
>>34050119
>an increase in unregistered refugees in Europe.
Buying artillery as a response to that ? Seems a little bit overkill
>>34051662
That really depends on what they do. If enough ISIS or al Qaeda sleepers enter the continent, or enough refugees become radicalized, or hell, if the homegrown right or left start getting too uppity, it might be a comfort to have a field piece capable of firing US surplus tactical nukes. Europe is not the US. They have actual problems with actual terrorist violence there.
>>34047214
The 8x8 variant is. It has an arm on right side manipulating ammunitions and some sort of rail like thingie on the left for the charges. It seems indeed a bit spindly to me compared to an enclosed turret but you have to trade some volume and mass if you want to fit them in an A-400m with mass left to spare for ammos, personnel and stuff.

>What is air strategic mobility?

I want numbercrunchers out of my kingdom's army.
>>34043785
>danskjävlar thinks this matters, or they matter
There is nothing more vile than small country nationalism
>>34045192
Really? After we got american two-engined helicopters and figured: "hey, it runs fine with just one, let's get rid of the other and just sell it and use it for parts".
>>34052915
>said the swede
Have a pity (you), svenne-banan. It's all you got going for you these days.
>>34043808
Its not so bad when you concider that pic related +1 is the only artillery of the swedish army, there are only 5 archers in service. There are literally no other artillery in the swedish military, not even towed.
though i think they ordered a total of 24.
>>34053566
They ordered 36 since the Norwegians cancelled their order.
>>34054391
>Be Sweden
>Think "Yeah, us Nordics totally have each others backs!"
>Do joint defense contracts with the Norwegians
>They back out at the last second
Every. Single. Time.
>>34045209
The French have already battle tested them against ISIS.
