What's the speeds out of those? Surely .22 and .17 can only deal out so much damage and ballistic coefficient, surely this is wasted energy? They tryna break some record?

Not the same cartridge, and I don't enjoy shooting my one, I sold it. Ammo was pricey and it did fuck all to goats that a .223 wouldn't do.

The funny thing is that you're so hard into diminishing returns it doesn't matter how big the case is at this point. You can get the same speed out of a long barrel 22-243 CHeetah with a 35 grain bullet. The added powder capacity when going to 40ish grains to 100+ is just going to give you a bit more bullet weight at the same speed. Going much above 5100ft/s, you basically need a light gas gun.
