And they taste awful. More awful I mean.

We should get back to our pemmican roots!
>europoors will never get to experience this
How about some of this? It's the preserved contents of a canned piece of meat from the 1845 Franklin Expedition.
>>34039799
>you will never eat this
>you will never eat the honey found in Egyptian tombs
It hurts.
>>34039820
If it makes you feel any better, you would say the same thing after eating those items.

It'd be worth it even so.

People in Africa have been starving to death since mankind was born in that continent, it's what naturally happens when people whose last technological achievement was 50 thousand yrs ago tries to colonize a region known for shit soils and close to zero precipitation.

MRE's are a morale thing. You can have a warm meal that doesn't taste like a cardboard block anywhere.
People cry about them but they aren't that bad and soldiers bitch just to bitch sometimes. It's better than that nutrient block you posted.
>>34039872
you didn't know that?
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/the-science-behind-honeys-eternal-shelf-life-1218690/
they have these for $5 apiece at the flea market, 2016 production, they have heaters, should i buy some?
>>34040313
Sure? They aren't that great honestly and are basically just protein and sugar.
>>34039860
Beekeepingfag here, it last forever but unless you keep it in a vacuum it just turns to a crystally mess, still edible but no longer honey.
>>34040367
i was more wondering if the price was ok
>>34040390
I know. I kept bees too.
>>34040313
Why would you buy MREs as a civvie? Nigga just make your own out of much better stuff.
>>34039738
Nah. Aren't they akin to the Iron rations of yester-century in the way that they are just pure nutrient bars? If so, that misses out on the primary aspect of our food-based (not just a nutrient bar) MRE adoption. The term "An army runs on its stomach" is true both in the literal necessity of nutrition and the morale of soldiers. They would rather be eating realish food rather than stale hard-tack and nutrient pills or in this case a nutrient bar.
>>34040404
much longer shelf life than i can manage for the same weight.
>>34040391
Price is A-OK, $5 is ideal
>>34040457
they're like those belvita breakfast biscuits, except more shortbread like.
>>34040313
Just make your own rations for much cheaper. One meal ready to eat there may be five bucks, but a tin of spam, some crackers and canned veggies are just as viable, can be obtained in bulk, and are cheaper in general. My example bug-out ration would be this.
>Breakfast
Carbohydrate: Sweet Crackers like Ritz or Keebler Club (Basically something sweet and filling)
Protein: Peanut Butter (Jif makes indvidual packs)
Sugar: Jam (Make your fucking own if you can) or Honey
Fruit cocktail maybe.
Instant coffee
Flavored sugar-free kool-aid mix with added vitamin powder (or if you have actual money unlike me, just get vitamin drink mix) for the day.
>Lunch
Canned Soup (I personally put tomato, french onion or chicken noodle in my bag)
Saltine crackers/Hard-Tack (soak it in the soup nigger)
Canned vegetables (Low salt options on this if at all possible, I usually go for reduced-salt green beans, peas&carrots or corn)
>Dinner
Meaty soup (Beef stew is a solid choice)
Something sweet (Fruit cocktail, peas, etc)
Saltines/Hard-Tack
All the cans are $1-3 each, a big box of saltines is $3, Peanut butter is like $3
So its cheap, and it gets the job decently done at around $4/meal
>>34040569
And you propose to replace the ENTIRE MRE with these? I would not let that fly.
>>34040628
no, I just have had them before. they arent even that big.
>>34040615
>$4/meal
That is not much cheaper, particularly given it doesn't have a FRH.
>>34040615
>chicken noodle

>>34042149
One hive's worth.

cool, thanks.
Calorie-Mate is the official /a/ MRE....
Would you get any weight savings over MREs?

>Would you get any weight savings over MREs?
Well you're supposed to "strip" them when you get them. At least that's what we do in Canada.
>>34039738
Where can I buy some Military MRE?

Commissary if you know anyone with base access. People usually sell them on ebay and shit too.

They are designed to so you can ration them easier, if they tasted good you might eat it all in one sitting.
>>34042149
Depends on the hive, a small top bar should keep honey in your porridge year round. But still it's a lot of work for honey, if you're not bothered by being non self sufficient then just buy it.
