This game is /k/ as fuck
>>
>>34032424
Never played that but I just bought Steel Division today. It's pretty damn good. I like it better than RUSE
>>
>>34032424
its okay, I prefer Men of war Assault squad 2 for my RTS fix though.

Very /k/ as fuck. Never got into multiplayer because by the time I got it I was way too outclassed. Had a hell of a time doing SP campaign and skirmishes though.
>>
>>34032428

Wargame Red Dragon is basically Steel Division but set in the 90's with about 5 times the content worth of gear you can use.
>>
>>34032547
Isn't steel division in early access? It should eventually have a decent amount of content
>>
>>34032553

It's in pre-order beta technically, not early access.

And the full release is tomorrow.

I mean it'll have a decent amount of content on release, 18 divisions with ~400 or so unique units. Red Dragon though is the culmination of a trilogy of games, each one adding new countries so by the end of RD you have 17 base countries with roughly 2000 different units of gear, plus 4 DLC countries.
>>
>>34032564
i have played wargame since EE and now i'm on steel division and i can objectively tell steel division is better , the frontline system and phase add so mutch in the deck building and the game, and maybe margame RD had 2000 different units but only a handfull is really worth their cost and in the end all decks are the same.
>>
>>34032700
i bought wargame airland battle and like 3 months after wargame red dragon was released so the multiplayer dried up, should i buy red dragon?
>>
>>34032708

At this point you should probably buy Steel Division
>>
>>34032713
but what's the appeal over red dragon?
>>
>>34032708

Eh, Steel Division is if you wanted to play Wargame with WW2 tech

If you want to play multiplayer cold war tech, RD is your game.

You can pick it up super cheap on sales, Eugen discounts their stuff heavily.
>>
>>34032708
wargame RD multiplayer is still alive but steel division is on the rise and since it's published by paradox add a new player base.
>>
>>34032723
The multiplayer which won't be dead?

I still play Air land battle and RD with a couple friends. Multi campaign and skirmish.

The game won't ever die as long as you have friends.

Although, I am disappointed that steel division won't have multiplayer campaign.

Objectively, Steel Division is a casualized, less complex game with a bunch of mechanics that made RD interesting gutted from it because lel WWII. If you are not a WWII autismo, it is a shittier game. If you are, go wild.

Frontline system is objectively bad, because it allows you to "sense" pushes without actually seeing them. Only good thing about it is encircling aspect.

Phase system is just to make game artificially slower.

I do agree that morale system is better.
>>

>>
It's /k/ as fuck in that it's ostensibly about war, but somehow instead merely hosts a giant hivemind of autists, so yeah, it's pretty /k/.
>>
Wargame is a dream game for me. Basically every relevant piece of cold war hardware is in it.

Ammount of detail when you zoom all the way is insane for a game this big.

In love with it to be honest. I wish I had gotten into it earlier. I tried SD but refunded it. It really just isn't as fun. Much smaller scale, slower pace, and the most restricted and boring front of an overdone war.

Jaded players who have played 8 years of WG will tell you SD is amazing but really its not.
They'll also claim a lot of the bullshit in RD isn't in SD, but that bullshit is scrub tactics that they still can't deal with, like helirushing. If you lose to helirush in the year 2017 you are just a mouthbreathing mongoloid and should move to a more babby friendly game in SD.

>playing anything but NATO
>>
>>34033791

Problem is, even though Wargame has a ton of hardware in it it doesn't represent cold war era combat properly at all.

Planes don't engage BVR with missiles. Tanks don't utilise counter-measures, EW doesn't jam communications, SIGINT doesn't spot targets for artillery based on their radio emissions, SPAAGs don't shoot down enemy artillery, nobody uses chemical weapons, nobody uses cruise missiles.

The WW2 setting of Steel Division is perfect as that's the kind of combat that was being portrayed in Wargame, albeit with a cold war layer of paint.
>>
>>34032428
Steel Division is trash compared to Wargame Red Dragon. Fuckers tempted me thinking they would make a good WWII Wargame, nope...
>>
Ahhh, wargame.

Except the deck building in SD is much more limited compared to Wargame titles, and if you actually think that "in the end all decks are the same" you are either a spastic or a troll. US armour is the same as US air? Please never play this game again.

"Only a handful are worth their cost" citation fucking needed.

Steel Divisions' frontline system allows you to know if an attack is coming without relying on recon, as well as know if there are large amounts of enemy units "sneaking" through an area. In short, it's casualised.

Phases are more about how much you can bring in, not just what. They add little to deckbuilding as on average you're not getting a new selection of units, you're just getting more of the same units.

tl;dr: paradox has casualised this to sell more copies, if you've been playing since EE you should kill yourself because you're too fucking stupid to understand even the basics of how any of these games work.
>>
>>34032726
Very much still alive, I can get a game at 2am west coast time. SD might ending up drawing in a lot more players, but the games are different enough that RD players seem to be sticking to it.
>>
I really want to like this game but it's just too frustrating for me to sit down and git gud.
>>
>>34035675
It's a really shallow game, don't overthink it.
>>
>>34035675
Don't be on a shitty team, also Recon is everything.
>>
>>34035675
Place recon with your Frontline. Cheap recon is fine, but stick some good high unit costs helis in the back so nothing gets though.

For MP avoid low ticket/low income games, it's just a way for kids to feel good about their cheese deck.

Big battles can be fun but you have to treat your battlespace as your own and don't help nor rely on others till your front is stabilized.
>>
>>34035583
>Steel Divisions' frontline system allows you to know if an attack is coming without relying on recon, as well as know if there are large amounts of enemy units "sneaking" through an area. In short, it's casualised.
Not really.
Frontline is mostly based on Los, so a half-track advancing on an unprotected field looks like the entire 3rd army doing a breakthrough.
So you know there's something in that general direction, that might be loe corporal bumfuck of half a dozen king tigers.

And you can sneak recon and AT infantry without disrupting the frontline
>>
>>34035757
My point being that you can't know any of that in RD without recon in the area. There could be a chally 2 sitting in the treeline, or nothing at all, but there's no way to know without recon. SD is giving you indicators of unit presence without recon.

I know you can sneak some units in, but I prefer to be able to sneak any and all units in if my opponent is inattentive.
>>
>>34035777
Recon inf in heavy trees, walked from the other side of the map is super annoying in WD:RD. I will give him that.

No, I just spread out a line of the cheapest inf I can find and leave them there all game.

It's easy to counter but it's just super annoying.

Isreal in general is op though.
>>
>>34033939
>nobody uses chemical weapons, nobody uses cruise missiles.
EE had air and chemical/biological strikes options on strategic campaign map. There even is nuclear strike (for a lots of points though, you could buy a reserve regiment for that)
>>
>>34035860
A 170 point MBT with great gun and armour, decent speed, as well as an ATGM? That's not OP, that's reparations for the shoah, my goy!

I do derive a guilty pleasure from playing Israel, though, especially that bastard Nimrod.

>>
>>34035818
That's why you should use empty transport helos to occasionally run over forested areas under your control in the hopes that the other guy didn't turn his recon infantrys weapons off. Or you just napalm large sections of forest.

>>34035860

They make do. Also has Combat Mission changed their engine recently? I tried out the demo for the Soviet-Afghan one and for some reason it didn't work very well on my PC. If I wanted some quasi-realistic stuff I would go Graviteam.
>>
>>34039436
afghanistan is the product of the source being lended to a russian company
it has been patched and made playable
many patches/additions have been added since shock force and afghanistan which were much more light weight compared too more recent variants

graviteam doesn't look half as realistic as the CMx2 gameplay. i don't play games though so maybe it is better

Ok guys allow me to shill for a moment. I really enjoy realistic RTS/RTT games and the wargame series was my favourite for a long time. Now however I have been playing a shitload of "Call to Arms". Its basically Men of War in a modern setting. I highly suggest checking it out as it is free to play but not pay 2 win. Buying the game only gives you access to single player but the free version gives you all units in multiplayer. It is early access and is by no means polished but is still a ton of fun. The sound design, map, and unit detail are amazing. There is also a really innovative FPS/RTS crossover mechanic which they are trying out, basically you can micro a single unit on the battlefield.

I really want more people to play against because I'm tired of playing shit skin russians with laggy ass internet. Check it out dudes, if you like wargame or men of war, you'll like this.

I have no idea about steel division(I never was that much into WWII anyway and the wargame is a direct hit into my pleasure centers) but its pretty normal that all decks look the same, you need to have variety within your deck so making a deck is more about focusing on one thing or the other.

But thats part of its realism, you do combined arms not just monotype decks, even when I do air assault decks just for fun I know I must add ATGMs and tanks for weak as they might be in comparaison with other options it only means that their roles are much more narrow but still effective.
