I want a 357 magnum for self defense. What's the most accurate 357 I can buy with $1000?

Accuracy is on you. Get a S&W 686 snubbie.
>self defense
>most accurate
I too, often find the need to defend myself at ranges exceeding 300 yards.
EAA Windicator.
Rossi 461
Taurus Model 66
Literally any S&W .357
There ya go.
Make sure to check the "Poorfag approved guns" wiki, local gun shop sales, and online dealers for baseline pricing.

>Accuracy is on you
Some guns are easier to shoot accurately. Snubbies are very difficult.
>>34032422
A little big to fit in my glovebox when traveling
>>34032458
EAA, Rossi, and Taurus seem to be of poor quality. I guess that leaves S&W?
>>34032488
S&W and Ruger. Or Uberti if you wanf to go cowboy.
If you want a meme gun, Uberti has .357 single action armies.

Ruger GP100
My recommendations:
Ruger Match Champion
OR
Smith and Wesson 627 Pro Series
These are the two best current production .357 Magnums made by the leading revolver manufacturers in the United States. Both are available for under $1000 dollars.

The 627 is most definitely not under 1000. At least the performance center version.
I own both the match and a 627 and let me tell yeh...
Though the 627 holds 8 rounds, the Ruger match champion is WAY cheaper and you probably get more of your monies worth.
Remember, you gotta buy ammo and speed loaders right?

The 627 I was talking about was SKU #178014, which is a Pro model rather than a PC model. It can be found for around $800 dollars.

I don't like the triggers on those.

>Ruger Match Champion
Would be a good gun, but the barrels are too short to realize the potential of 357 mag.
I've got a Rossi 461 and its amazing. Shooting 357 out of it is easy, not that I'd want to do it all day but its not painful like it can be. Great for cc, my father carried it for awhile and he loved it. Nice weight to it, not too heavy but not an airweight.
Got it for 250 buckaroos at a show and its just fantastic. Can't attest to other snubbys but the 461 is something I would absolutely buy again if anything happened to mine.

>Ruger GP100
This.
>>34032402
Manurhin MR73
Barring that, this >>34032514

Wut. 4" is like the magic number for 357. You dumb
Gp100 with a 6inch barrel and a trigger job.
Basically your choices are s&w or ruger unless you want something for deep concealment. If accuracy is of utmost importance stay away from j frames, sp101s - they're harder to shoot well. S&w generally have better trigger pulls than rugers but other than that either are equally intrinsically accurate - just a matter of personal preference. I would stay at 3 inches or longer to realize the full potential of the cartridge and unless your pocket carrying barrel length is the easiest part to conceal.
My recommendation would be a pre lock 686+ in either 3 or 4 inch.
Great sights
Great trigger
7 rounds of 357
Great aesthetics with no Hillary hole
Don't fall for the ruger is more durable meme - that's only a real thing for 44 magnums

Also 6 inch 357s can be fairly muzzle heavy (i.e. Don't balance well). Go to a rental range - I guarantee you they will have a few s&w or Rugers there for you to try
