So why did the US military completely gloss over the 7.62x39?
>>34030948
I don't think you understand how much our grand parents hated Communists. Damn sure wasn't going to use their weapon.
>>34030973
Not necessarily any combloc gun that fired it, just the cartridge itself
>>34030948
idk but i wish they would have the russian guns all look way cooler
>>34030948
It was still .30 cal. The whole push for the M16 and 5.56 was narrower cartridges for more boolets per clipazine.
if you want to lament over a wasted opportunity, i think americans not using the FAL is a bigger issue
>>34030948
Because 7.62x39 would have killed people instead of wounding them and using up resources.
>>34030948
Because it wasn't our round. When everyone started to shorten their service cartridges right at the end of WWII each nation retained their own caliber. The Germans shortened their 8mm Mauser into 8mm kurz, the Soviets shortened their 7.62×54r into 7.62×39, the Brits had to be special and tried to go to .280supermeme, and the Americans shortened our .30-06 cartridge into .308
Then, when NATO came about, all the members adopted 5.56×45 and 7.62×51, meanwhile the Warsaw pact adopted 7.62×39.

>>34030948
Why did the Soviets completely gloss over 5.56x45?
Not enough cosmoline.
>>34030948
Because it's not an American-designed cartridge.
There are probably people in the US military that have respect for some of the Combloc cartridges.
But pride (and probably logistics) means they'd never adopt any of them.

>>34031009
because it is a fucking soviet cartridge
is that to difficult to understand
normally opposing forces do not field the same weapons
so that when supplies are captured they are not as easily utilized
>>34031069 bingo. pack it up boys, thats /thread

>>34031229
>being this retarded
Not even that guy, but fuck's sake, I don't think he was literally talking about using the soviet cartridge. Use some common sense.
>>34030948
The US military considered the 7.62x39 round under powered and useless in the modern conflict zone
