Are we talking basic on-site security detail, or full on Colonial Marines? What are the environmental conditions?

I would say that the majority of offworld mining would be inside conditions. Not going to be much long range need in corridors, mines, and interior living stations. Security and shock troops should be using something in the SMG category.
Colonial Marines as well, but with a designated marksman who has something capable of real range and armor penetration.

Collateral damage is going to be a consideration, as none of the mining companies are going to want to risk needless damage to their installation. I imagine Full-auto will not be common. Probably more less-than-lethal options for security and heavy weapons reserved for C.M.s.

Actually, as much of a joke as the 5.7 is here on Earth, I can imagine a cartridge like this being popular among the colonies.

Depends on the mining colonies. If they're mining something volatile, you don't wanna have weapons that could ignite that shit and blow the whole place up.
