Sure, it cycles, and it throws brass correctly. If someone holds it too loosely, the recoil can cause it to tilt back and left, causing the brass arc to go vertucal. When one of my smaller female friends doesn't have a proper grip on my .45 or .357 Sig, this happens.
It just depends on their grip and how they absorb the recoil or muzzle flip.
