A fudd is someone who believes that a firearms only purpose if so hunting and therefore a wood and steel bolt action or shotgun is all one needs. They hate any modern semi-automatic firearm and would be perfectly okay if any gun that wasn't their deer rifle was banned.

Or when someone raves about fully automatic drum fed 12-gauge shotguns, or insists that they need lasers and rails and flashlights on their Glock? You know, the feeling you get when someone thinks a good old S&W .357 is shit because it "lacks capacity" or that any gun that doesn't look like it was featured in the Alien movie franchise is antiquated? Or when someone has no appreciation for black powder firearms, historical engraving or the firearms from WW1 through Korea?

Those feelings you're getting are your own natural Fudd instincts at work. According to the guys who would label you a Fudd, you aren't allowed to appreciate anything that isn't sci-fi or "tactical." The anti-Fudd crowd are generally newbies, millenials, the guys who install nitrous and glass packs in their Hondas, and who rarely actually fire guns but like to forum surf until they can mod out a techy new firearm as an extension of their Airsoft habit.

The Fudd is the guy who likes revolvers and older rifles, or at least ones not heavily gadgeted out.

The people who constantly bitch about Fudds are generally obnoxious idiots with almost no real experience or training.

Now, that being said, a previous poster is absolutely correct that there are a class of these "Fudds" who are really dangerous too, because they act like no one "needs" anything more than a revolver, a deer rifle, and a double barreled shotgun, and they're happy to let the anti-gunners ban everything beyond that.

Fudds need to be brought up to speed on the real threat of the liberal anti-gunners and the coolness of more modern weaponry, and the folks who are constantly screaming about "Fudds" need to be more appreciative of older firearms, recognize gun ownership has rural roots, and that you don't need to be a geeked out "operator" to have credibility as a gun owner.
