Father in law is selling two lever actions - a Winchester Model 1894 Trapper 45 Cal for $600, and a Carbine 30-30 for $400. Both have only had a few rounds shot through each.
I'm looking for something to go camping/hiking and maybe even pig hunting with on the family property. Anyone with experience with either? Pic related.
30-30 hands down

For a more effective firearm, the .30-30. For fuck you in a cowboy, .45
>>34002197
30-30 is more useful if hunting is your only goal, but I think you'll have more fun with the .45
>>34002214
Neat - why? Price alone, or the 30-30 is more versatile than the .45?
I've heard that the 94 action can have some trouble cycling shorter cartridges.
>>34002240
versatile in what area? The 30-30 can take a wider variety of game, but you can do more fun stuff with the .45
>>34002227
Yeah that's really the only reason I was leaning towards the .45, already have an Uberti Single Action and would love to bring both to the ranch. I'd probably have a lot more range with the 30-30 on those pigs though...

get fuckin' both
porque no los dos?
>>34002197
See if he'll cut you a deal for both.
>>34002655
Really leaning towards either or so I can save $$$ towards mounting something on the one I choose
>>34002197
I've got a trapper model in 30-30
fun as hell to shoot.
never had any issues with it what so ever
30-30 is a shit tier meme round
get the 45

>t. 12 year old faggot

In that case, get the .30-30, because it will be a better hunting rifle and it will be worth mounting something on.

I own a Winchester 30-30 Carbine and it's my favorite gun. Every movement required to operate it is satisfying.
I personally wouldn't want to go pig hunting with a pistol-caliber rifle, even a beefy one like .45; however, on the other end of the spectrum, the 30-30 will feel like overkill for varmint killing purposes, if you expect to do anything like that on your camping/hiking trips or have something like a possum in your garbage.

>tube mag general purpose round

pick one negger

With the fuddy fi', you could get a sweet 1911 or an old school Colt revolver repro that shares the same ammo.

>sweet 1911 or an old school Colt revolver
.45acp
.45 LC
Pick one.
>>34002197
Get the trapper. They're hard to come by and 45 colt out of a long barrel is extremely good for hunting. Pic related even in my 12" barrel I can hit pop cans from 100 yards no problem

>an old school Colt revolver repro
>repro
I pick "lrn2read, faggot"

That sentence sounds like you think 1911, Colt revolver, and the '94 all share the same ammo. But you sounded cool beyond your years by spelling "45" phonetically.

For extensive hiking the weight and maneuverability of the carbine model will be a godsend, especially if you expect to come across thick brush. As said already itt the 30-30 is a fantastic round for hunting most any sort of game. The 45 trapper however is getting more difficult to come across and would make for a great, fun collector piece. So it depends on whether you'd rather have a practical rifle that fits your needs or more of a novelty.
