Doesn't use AR-15 magazines. If Ruger fixed this glaring flaw, they'd making bank in Canada and in other nations where the AR-15 is restricted.

Never heard this. Then again I haven't owned one since like 2002 or some shit and I'm certain it was chambered for only .223. It was used to good effect in the Miami FBI shootout however
>>
>>33997046
>>33996716

Wrong, new ones are fine. The ACTUAL flaw is it costs ~$300 more than an AR nowadays, 4 years ago mini-14's were the shit for poorfags
>>
>>33996716
It's not as accurate as an AR. That's really the only flaw for civilian use.
>m-muh magazines
Most people have 4-6, if that.

>>33996746
Ruger is good.

>>33996893
All Mini-14 rifles, new or old, are rated for 5.56x45mm, besides the Mini-14 Target

>>33997041
>>33997145
Wrong.

>>33997046
New ones easily shoot 3MOA out of the box, nearly 2MOA with match ammo, which is rather impressive if you consider how ungainly the Garand action actually is for high precision.

>>33997180
More like 12 years ago, the Mini-14 was a poorfag gun before it was redesigned in 2005-2006, where it was radically improved, and costing more since.

A used 180 series Mini-14 can be like $300, but a new 580 series Mini-14 was never under $600 (and barely at that).
>>
>>33996869
>>33996893
>>33997477
The rifle was designed while the AR15 was still new and when the AR magazine pattern wasn't thought of as the normal standard for 5.56mm rifles.

Price.
Own an AR15 and a Mini 14, and a mélange of other firearms, but out of all them I've only felt buyers remorse over the Mini 14 due to the price.
>>
>>33996716

It costs too much, compared to an AR.

The mags are expensive and heavy.

It's not very accurate.

It isn't the most reliable rifle in its class.

With all that said though, it works, and it's accurate/reliable enough for its intended use. Probably the only thing keeping them manufactured is the gun laws in ban states.

I have one from back during the original AWB in the 90s that my Dad passed down to me. It's got som fun garand feels, but it isn't my practical rifle.
>>
>less accurate than AR
>heavier than AR
>less reliable than AR
>less modular than AR
>More expensive than AR

but on the plus side it's not an AR so it has that going for it if you want something difference

it's basically a fudd AR
>>
>>33996716
Imo it's my only alternative to an ar-15 because I hate the butchered safe act complaint ar-15s they look like shit.
>>
>>33997730

The Ares SCR is cool. I kind of want one, and I'm not even in a ban state.
>>
>>33997730
I would like to get an M1a but they're much more expensive. Again I hate the safe act complaint ar-10 because butchered
>>
>>33997740
Just Googled that one and I don't like that either. Just flat out ugly.

I was thinking of getting an ar-15 pistol because the safe act only applies to rifles then throwing on one of those sig braces which according to the atf you can shoulder legally now without throwing an illegal sbr since it's still a pistol.

All the features of a legal pistol. All the features of a rifle without any butchering
>>
>>33997775

The stock pictures use terrible upper. The SCR looks great imo with a more gucci upper
>>
>>33997791
I mean it looks better than those retarded safe act complaint stocks but I still hate that look. In my mind it's not an ar-15 if it doesn't have that iconic look
>>
>>33997775
Fuck me

I can't do an ar-15 pistol in New York because of a weight limit and the magazine has to be fixed and all this retarded shit.
>>
>>33997825
Unless I can find a receiver made before 1994 I can't make an ar-15 pistol with a detachable magazine

They have this ridiculous spec on barrel shrouds. If it has one and a detachable magazine outside the pistol grip its an assault weapon
>>
>>33997667
I can build a better ar for 350 now ruger ar556s and smith And wesson mp15s are dropping under 500 and will perform so much better with tons of modularity.
>>
>>33997905
They make ac556 for 500? Where? The regular minis brand new are 1k
>>
>>33997033
Prove it
>>
>>33997180
>4 years ago mini-14's were the shit for poorfags
There was never a point where it was preferable to the sks for a poorfag
>>
>>33997679
That doesn't make it less of a flaw.
>>
>>33997207
I have 55+ STANG type magazines. I have 16 AK mags. They are cheap. I can buy 10 at a time without a second thought to get ahead of scares and panic buying. I have 3 mags for my ruger because they are expensive and cringey to buy every time.
>mud tests
If I take my AR or AK out hog or deer hunting, I dont have to worry if it will still function and save my life if I drop it in dirty conditions. The same cannot be said of the mini 14 and its poorly designed open action
>>
>>33997919
AR556 =/= AC556
>>
>>33997716

Its lighter than an AR bruh

>>

>>

>>
>>33996869
Wrong.

AR style mags are limited to 5 rounds.

Would need like AIA enfield mags or pistol mags for 10 rounds.

Or beowulf so we can stuff 13 or so.

MiniFag here. It's a good rifle if you can get it cheap. I paid $600 for a post-580 "Tactical" (meaning: birdcage and black polymer stock) Mini with an assload of magazines, case, cleaning kit, etc.

Excellent rifle if you live in a gun-free utopia, or you fear your state becoming one.

You won't be driving tacks at 100m, but you'll be hitting man-sized targets at 100m+, which is what matters.

It's lighter than all of my buddies' ARs, and Tapco plastic mags (the Gen2s aren't shit) are dirt cheap.

It puts up to abuse, and it gets the job done.

It's not the top tier, but it's amazing for /k/ on a budget.

>>33997775
fellow NY bro here

If you want a somewhat normal looking AR you can get one of these receiver spur grips, as long as you dont have a muzzle device/bayolug or adjustable stock you can have your tiny detachable mags.

they are not too bad, most of my shooting is either offhand or bipod paper targets so I barely notice.

and if the laws ever change or you leave state you can just screw on a better grip.

That part of the law was literally written to specifically make TEC-9s and TEC-22s illegal. Specifically. Why else would they be so specific as to include references to barrel shroud, weight, and detachable magazines outside the pistol grip? Specifically singling out a single company's products for arbitrary reasons is unethical on so many levels...
>>
>>33996716
here's something I cant get a definitive answer on

can I topload a mini with stripper clips?
>>
Expensive, poor quality metal on the stainless version, lack of compatibility with ar mags, 3-4 moa accuracy. Difficulty of mounting optics compared to ar.

Why buy a mini 14 when you can get a dependable ar for the price or an sks for $500-600 less?

That's funny, because I'm citing the Mini-14 in my paper, as an example of why California's Assault Weapon Ban is a load of shit.

Mini-14s are available in loads of California guns stores (with 5 round magazines instead of 10 round ones, for whatever reason), while AR rifles are banned and demonized because of their cosmetics and ergonomics.

Marc Lepine (hero btw) used it (with 30 round magazines, idk if these were standard or not) to kill 15 people and injure 14 people at his university. A determined murderer is going to murder people, whether they have a collapsible "assault" stock or not. Maybe they should try to detect the obvious red flags of future attacks, instead of taking away the rights of law abiding citizens.
