Swimmers cut weights in at 7.8lbs
Most ceramics are the same

Thats the same weight for one ceramic plate as well. I never said anything about buying only one.
>>
>>33996132
Maybe in 2008 gramps, and those ceramics are level 4.
Meanwhile level 3 ceramics and polymers are down to 3lbs.
>>
>>33996083
Ceramic lasts only a couple of rounds you dumb fuck.
Ar500 at least lasts many many rounds and will only be defeated by very fast 556 and velocity does drop off so at 50m you're safe.

That's some nice poorfag logic right there. People like you are the reason trust funds exist.

No you retard, but if you want to have armor that actually lasts a long time in a shtf scenario and can protect you against pretty much anything with a velocity lower than 3100fps or dedicated AP ammo not some shit that will be useless after 1 or 2 times of use.

The bottom blew up and I bet after those 3 hits a more powerful round like 300 wssm or even 308 would finish it off.

And again, ar500 can last against many tens of rounds of even 308, ceramic can't.

Personally I'd want personal body armory to be made up of whatever is used in tanks such as a depleted uranium alloy or a tungsten alloy.
.15 inches thick separated by .5 inches of space.

LITERALLY WHAT IS THE POINT OF BODY ARMOR IF NOT FOR SHTF YOU MORON!

What, do you like to austicaly larp as an operator?
Other than shtf there's no point in having body armor.

So, I'm 6'3" with a longer than average torso. Based on some of your guys experience(?), what's a good and comfortable plate carrier and level lll plate combo?
Also, should the plate carrier protect you from spall, or should I double add soft armor underneath the plating?

This. Not many normies even know about fast 5.56 vs armor, or have long barrel ARs that can get up to speed. Most people are equipped with shitty handgats, airsoft, or slavshit anyway.

>>33996040
AR680 my man. I've got a gang of that shit in 1/4", with IIIA soft armor beind to catch any fragments of .223 or big bore that penetrate the chest plates. Spall is deflected or captured by a thick leather collar and sleeves. Will last nearly forever and stops nearly everything. Good enough desu. Thinking of making an exo platform like pic related to hang swinging plates of 3/4" AR500 for extra protection.

Manlets ITT need to do squats and cardio.

The future is in hybrid polymer ceramic composed of polymer with a backing of ceramic composite sheets compressed by several several tons in a vacuum based environment then hermetically sealed in DOD certified line x

>>
>>33996459
Spall is a meme
Its documented in the sierra12 test that its incredibly minimal
You're more at risk taking shards of gear in the arms and neck
>>
>>33996459
I'm a similar build. My Mayflower APC fits great, even with side plates in.
>>
>>33996235
>The bottom blew up and I bet after those 3 hits a more powerful round like 300 wssm or even 308 would finish it off.
Still much more then just "couple hits".

>And again, ar500 can last against many tens of rounds of even 308, ceramic can't.
Bear in mind that plate covers around 15% of the frontal body area (less if target is lardass). Combat hits have pretty much random distribution so if plate gets 10 hits you can expect that target gets around 66 (!) hits all over his body and extremities. I am pretty sure at this point target would not care about his plate integrity at all.
>>
>>33996480
>leather collar
>extra swinging plates

Fuck my combat effectiveness up senpai
>>
>>33996402

The entire point of the "III+" steel plates was to defeat M193. There is plenty of evidence showing that it does so. So no, fast moving 55 grains do not always penetrate AR500.
>>
>>33996504
The swinging plates were a joke, mostly. I do have extra 10" AR500 target plates lying around, and they would be useful as armor. But that shit's heavy. The leather collar is on a full length duster, when turned up it snaps together at the throat and is actually quite comfortable. Protects neck from frag and would probably stop .22lr anywhere else.
>>
>>33996508
3+ is not ar500

Formally "III+" is plate that defeats rounds besides 7.62x51 M80 ball. So every manufacturer can have their own meaning of "III+". Also defeats M855? "III+" !
>>
>>33996040
Can be easily penetrated by M855A1. AR500 is shit. You can buy ceramics for less than $150 a plate now.
