Say that you noticed the neighbor boy modified his drone to fire bottle rockets and drop fire-crackers.
What would be the best weapon/ammo type to kill a drone that big?

>Real answer?

Tell his parents to make him cut that shit out. If he doesn't call the FAA and FBI. It's some kind of aerospace/weapons violation, make that little faggot cop a felony charge.

>/k/ answer?

Attach your own bottle rockets to a drone, dogfight. Alternatively, tape some knives or like a cowcatcher to it and ram it over your property and smash it with a sledgehammer, piss on it, and throw it back over the fence to send a message.

If possible, though,

>>

It might be done, get ready for angry parents.

But seriously, most commercial drones have to be registered with the FAA now. They don't like this kind of shit. He's technically attaching explosives to it. The feds would not like this fucker.

Tell his parents, and if they don't care and he doesn't stop, tape it, call, crack a beer, watch the raid. That's probably much more satisfying than hitting it with a BB-gun.

Strapping pyrotechnics to your drone violates several FAA regulations. If you shoot it down they won't do shit because it's their job to keep that shit from happening in the first place. You're literally doing their job for them at that point, and instead of wasting thousands of taxpayer dollars trying to get cops to take it down you can spend nothing more than a single 12ga shell

>>
>>33992194
I don't think you realize just how illegal it is to strap fireworks to a drone. At that point self defence is a totally viable argument since your safety and property are literally at risk

You're not even reading anything I'm posting. This isn't timmy down the street flying his new rc helicopter over my house, it's someone taking a done and fucking arming it with explosives and pyrotechnics. If you don't think someone should be able to defend themselves from that I guess you can't defend yourself from anything.

Kinda sounds like you started out by being an asshole who wanted to shit on some kid's good times and now that you are being called out for it are trying desperately to justify it.

Most of us here on /k/ have used firearms before, and some of us have used explosives before. Do you really expect anyone here to feel your panic over remote controlled roman candles and M80s is anything other than pathetic?
>>
>firearms of any kind
Shotguns are effective, but you WILL get weapons charges if you shoot something down in an urban/suburban setting without a good fucking reason. In more rural settings, if the drone is actually demonstrably invading privacy or causing a disturbance, you could probably shoot it down and be okay.

>airsoft/pellet guns
Less effective but far safer and less for neighbors or the police to get pissed about. Also saves your guns from the evidence locker. Just practice first and realize that in an urban setting pellet guns look exactly like real guns and will still get the police called on your ass.
>Directed energy weapons
A high-power handheld laser would be the easiest thing to use, although more dangerous than a pellet gun, and the FAA loves to bust people's nuts over lasers
>Nets/net guns
If you want to spend a lot of money you can buy a net launcher, or you could string a net between two trees like they have behind football goals to "surprise" drones.
>Falcons
The most impractical yet patrician method for home airspace defense. Don't do this unless you actually practice falconry as a hobby.

Honestly of all of these just get a pellet gun. Easiest to use and maintain, and probably won't get you charged with reckless endangerment or unlawful discharge.

Skynet 12 ga shells.

They expand and create a 6' in diameter net of sorts.
>>
Regarding directed-energy methods, here's two:
Microwave magnetron gun that can evidently cause enough EMF to trip circuitbreakers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80kDn4vit_w
Infrared laser that could feasibly cut the drone to bits with enough exposure time and good aim (a few seconds, I'd estimate): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHqWvgi3IKE

Both these options have the advantage that they could be used discreetly, i.e. you could shut the drone down, it falls and breaks, and it could be somewhat difficult to show it was you. It could look like the drone went out of range and crashed

This. Based on what you've told us, there's been absolutely no threat or offence to you, and you haven't made any attempt to so much as ask the kid directly to stop. You aren't clever. Nobody will think you're cool or powerful. You'll just be hated. Jumping at an opportunity to levy law or force on someone else (for, close as anyone can tell, the purpose of jacking yourself off with a sense of empowerment) is the very thing destroying liberty in the modern world. You want to use it on him, thousands of raving liberals are hyped to use it on both of you. Everyone wants to feel in control, even if it's just for a second, and the more this attitude proliferates, the more they're willing to destroy each other for it. Any force you want to levy is force others want to levy on you. Every time this shit happens, be it someone's drones, guns, fireworks, frizbees, or whatever, the snek gets stepped on a little more. It's your snek too, whether you can see that or not.

If this really presents a problem rather than simply an opportunity to exercise control, ask the kid to stop. If he won't, talk to his parents. If that doesn't help, go to the law or remove drone as necessary. But do not be part of the problem. Let the kid be a kid, and make sure he owns up to any damage he causes. We built a nation on trust and responsibility.

All that said, drone skeet would be FUN AS FUCK

I'm now thinking of drone races, you know...these: https://youtu.be/fGlBLBwvFRo

Now, instead of just hauling ass around parking lots or buildings, they have a stretch where people shoot at the drones with shotguns (minimum distance, 20 yds) in some bizarre tusken raider-esque trial-by-fire.
>>
>>33989782
You could legally shoot it down on two premises:
1. Fearing for your life (because it's weaponized)
2. Defending your property (assuming its hovering above your property)
>>
>>33989945
Similar thing happened to me in January, non combative situation though

>post christmas so at least 3 drones flying around my suburb fairly frequently
>waterhole 150m from my house is a common spot for the drones to come and look (think kangaroos to dams)
>these things are all phantom 3s and 4s. Clear picture, easy control but not highly manoeuvrable
>send up my 210 sized racing quad with shit picture but handling absolutely out of this world
>buzz around their cameras to attract attention
>flip, spin and show off to assert dominance in the air space
>drone leaves shortly after

That was actually the only air to air encounter I had. Saw a few families recovering one that they crashed not very long after. Was a good laugh.
>>
>>33990071
I wish it where that easy to build a half decent pulse Doppler radar for exactly this purpose
>>
>>33989674
If it's not flying too high, and it's operated remotely from the camera, a water hose with enough pressure is ideal and gets it easily. Doesn't make a sound, can't see it coming, no proof left behind.

I live in a nice house near the beach, and there are plenty people flying their drones largely over my property, not to mention some attempting to visit my house with it. I took down about twenty, many of which crashed into nearby rocks, and I captured three Parrot drones and a custom one so far. No one ever suspected a thing.

There's less drones around these days, seems they were all poorfags that burnt all their money on it and gave up after that deadly crash.

No and no. These items are not covered under state or local laws. All Drone Operations over the United States are covered expressly and explicitly by the FAA and the CAP. There are no legal circumstances to allow the destruction of an in flight aircraft over civilian airspace. None. Even the government can't shoot down an aircraft over civilian space (not to say they *wouldn't* but it's still illegal to do so). Even if threat to one's person is present, destruction of a drone is illegal, a felony level offense at the Federal level (meaning no guns for life for you). I cannot emphasis this enough, you *cannot* destroy an in flight drone. Castle doctrine, stand your ground, or anything similar, are state laws, not federal, and it's federal laws that protect aircraft.

Birdshot will kill a drone

Like a dji phantom 5

They're pretty fragile.

So there is a rc controller, a GPS unit(find home automatically when battery is low) and a motor control unit.

You can't really hit a drone from the bottom because there is a first person camera gimbal that allows the operator to see where the drone is.

And incorporated into the gimbal is a stand.

But if you can nail one of the quad copter motors where the plastic is thin it will fall

Not the blade or blade guard. The actual motors mounted under the blades

Ive been flying drones for years and really it sounds like you spent too much on one and feel the need to justify your purchase by defending drones at every turn. A drone is not an aircraft. It's a remote control TOY. Secondly, said TOY is ARMED. Threat to life or imminent threat of harm authorizes use of force to defend oneself or property from said threat. An armed flying TOY can be shot down.

Still have not seen where OP says he was being fired upon, or that this thing was over his property. The original post was just that he saw a kid modifying his toy and wanted to shit on someone else's fun.

And have you seriously never had roman candle fights when you were a kid?
>>

>people firing roman candles at your house dindu nuffin

going over to his house and kicking the shit out of him and breaking his hands would be a good start
>>
>>33996940
Again, OP said nothing about them being fired at his house, just that some kid was attaching them to a drone and having fun.
>"Say that you noticed the neighbor boy >modified his drone to fire bottle rockets and >drop fire-crackers.
>What would be the best weapon/ammo type >to kill a drone that big?"
>-OP
Rereading that it doesn't even say roman candles, which have a very small chance of causing a fire, it says bottle rockets, which have 0% chance of causing fire. OP is just a scared faggot.
I'm not even defending the kid, it sounds like maybe someone should talk to his parents or if that doesn't work, call the police. What I am saying is that from the first post this has been about "Someone looks like their having fun, how can I violently ruin that"
>>33994610
^This sums it up perfectly.

If OP is absolutely THAT terrified of a RC toy with bottle rockets on it, then by all means he should (in this order)
1. Go talk to the parents like a functional adult.
2. If that doesn't resolve it call the police

It is that simple to solve. OP just doesn't get to act like a toughguy shooting down some kid's toy.
>>
>>33997223
>shooting bottle rockets at somebody else's property doesn't violate the NAP
Yeah no.
>>
>>33997271
Show me where OP said the kid was shooting them at him or his house?
>>
>>33997271
In fact, that's besides the point. If the kid does that go talk to his parents like a rational adult instead of running out in the yard to throw rocks or shoot at it like a fucking moron.
>>
>Get giant inflatable towers
>Wait for the drone to crash in it, since they're kids

>not stealing his idea for your own use
>not modifying it to shoot bbs when the fire crackers/rockets run out
>not using your drown to protect your airspace and destroying his drone

Come on do you not even Drone combat.
>>
>>33990352
Dutch police actually do this.
>>
>>33997293
Show me in the FAA regulations involving drones where it says it's fine to strap pyrotechnics onto whatever you want?
>>
>>33997223
So you're not allowed to proactively prepare for the highly likely scenario of this kid blowing out your windows with bottle rockets?

That's all this thread is for, preparation for the possibility of people using drones violently and how to respond

Also
>call cops
>talk to parents
This is /k/
>>
>>33996356
You have to register them as aircraft to the FAA when you get a drone, not that anyone actually does

Nonetheless if it's weaponized take it down

No because I saw what happened to the neighbor kid that did get in Roman candle fights

Sorry we weren't all retards with no idea of how dangerous fire and explosives are
>>
>>33989674
Tell the neighbor you're scared of his toy and ask him not to spook you with it anymore
>>
>>33999077
It's not okay hence why you report it and get charges slapped on the kiddie. You shoot it you are now fucked in addition to the kid.
>>
>>33999190
Roman candles? Lol.

....literally all you have to do is hit one of the blades with a pellet or two to break it. A single blade breaking will desabilize the fuck out of these things enough that itll go down..

and for some reason in the last week it's been said 10 times as often as before.

2 kids shooting eachother with roman candles=/=someone attacking people with an armed drone.
>>
>>33997223
I agree that op is a fag, but bottle rockets and roman candles can easily start fires.
