First, good choice on that rifle. This being your first job and all, let me give you a piece of advice: save up, buy quality stuff, take care of it, and make it last. The Henry definitely fits in the "quality stuff" category. Yes, its price means you can't buy it immediately. Learning about delayed gratification is important too. When you finally do take possession of it, you're going to be super happy with it. And seriously, the Henry is the kind of rifle that, fifty years from now, you'll be passing along to your grandson as his first gun. Just remember to care for it - which if you've had to work and wait for it, you will.

I make about $1400 a month.

I pay about $700 in bills and rent, split it with my Roommate. Then I pay about $300 for my car payment and insurance. That's not including food and various expenses.

I still own a few beater guns and I'm saving up to build my own AR-15. It's not that hard to budget your shit.

That's true, too. when I went in to my LGS to buy my Mini-14, they actually seemed kind of shocked that I wanted to pay for the whole thing all at once. Then again, it's in a neighborhood with a lot of working class Mexicans, so any gun more expensive than a Hi-Point or a Maverick 88 probably *does* get put on layaway around there.

Shit I am 27 and have about 50k in saving because I live with mom and dad. I am gonna buy a house at the end of the year. Paying rent is like giving money away. The only regret I have is that it's looked down upon but fuck society.
>>
>>33981188

>When you finally do take possession of it, you're going to be super happy with it.

This literally never works for me. While in the process of saving money for something I get bored of it and move on to something else. It took me 2 years to get around to my first AK, something like 6 or 7 to finally bully myself into a USP. I don't think I'm ever going to convince myself to buy a suppressor with wait times as bad as they are these days.

I put shit on layaway whenever I can to lock myself in to whatever I wanted at the time. I split the money between paying it off and buying related items (magazines, spare parts, aftermarket parts, a new caliber if applicable). A credit card works too, but layaways HAVE to be paid off in full by a certain date which constantly motivates me to make more money.

Living expenses are paid by a trust, so if I didn't have hobbies I'd probably never leave the house. It works out pretty well.
>>
>>33983269
good for you for being responsible, seriously. too many people get credit cards or whatever and get in over their heads. a bit of fiscally planning and self control and youll be better off.
that being said, work more if you can
>>
>>33983370
Not everybody has a family that's still together, or family that's nearby.

Sure, I could live with my mom for free, but it'd be 2 hours away from where I currently live and work, and I'd be in the middle of nowhere. I'd have to quit my job as well, just to go work at a gas station or something.
>>
How much does a mauser C96 cost in burgerland? Can I find one in Miami? It doesn't have to be genuine, just work. Failing that, how much for a p38?
>>
>>33983422

Post war 38's and their derivatives can be had for mc donalds wages provided you saved up for a couple weeks.
>>
>>33983228
>tfw the Sportsman's Guide 4 payment plan is your best friend

I looked this up; sounds really convenient.

Is Sportsman's Guide legit?
>>
I make about $2200 a month.

$450 in various taxes.
$250 for 401(k) & health insurance.
$1100 in bills and student loans.
Leaves about $400/month for food and guns and shit. I'll have a lot more money to my name when I get my car and student loans paid off. Shouldn't be long on the first front.

I just got promoted too so should be making another $250/mo (less taxes and retirement). Will probably add some more to my student loan payment (paid off in 2y4m). Can't decide if I should put my entire car payment in savings or put half of it towards student loans (paid off in 1y11m).
>>
>>33983382
I have a credit card with the bank that I set at a $400 limit and basically use it as my monthly charge card.

Also, I've been shopping around some LGS and seeing if they offer layaways, cause I might start doing that for my future big purchases, well, after I get a better job.
>>
>>33983228

>>tfw being down to last couple hundred dollars for a week and a half

I drop to under $100 frequently. I don't eat breakfast anyway and can skip dinner or dig into my noodle stash or MREs. At that point I just have to worry about gas money once or twice until my next paycheck.
>>
>>33983471
I'd say put half towards the loans cause the sooner you can pay off the loans, the better off you'd be fiscally. If you ever lose your job or have an unexpected issue that results in you needing to pay out a lot, it's good to know that you won't have collectors asking for amount + 30% on it when you're already down.

Other than that, good for you, Anon, you're doing some good shit and it'll soon work out well for ya.
>>
>>33983458
Sportsman's Guide is great, yes I recommend it.
>>
>>33983471
Pay off your loans first, trust me.

I paid off all my loans within a year and a half of graduating. It meant I basically lived like hermit, but not having that cloud hanging over my head anymore is great.

I'm gunpoor now though.
>>
I'm in a good spot in which, for about a year, I'm making a not-terrible amount of money with very low expenses. Basically, I finished grad school at about the same time my dad retired and sold the house I grew up in. He sent me enough money from the sale to pay off all my student debt, so I have zero debt at the moment, and I own my car outright. I got a job as an adjunct at a community college, and I'm making about $2000 a month average. That's at the same time that I still have the same expense structure that I had in grad school, including $300 a month in rent. That's going to change (and more than double) now that my roommate is getting married, moving to Portland, and selling the house, which is happening this summer. But I've had a yearlong window in which I've built up a decent starter collection, including four milsurps (a Mauser, a Mosin, a MAS-36, and an Arisaka). They may be the last guns I can buy for a while now that my expenses will be going up, but even if it is, I'm satisfied for now.
>>
>>33983452
So like $800 for a walther p38? Sounds good if true.
I'm still really set on a C96 though, are they like $1000? Cos I have that to spare before making more money...

I go for the "scavenges non-important stuff, thrifty on wants, and splurges on needs".

Currently, the only things I've bought that could be considered "expensive" are new glasses, a backpack, and my gun. Everything else from my Casio to my gloves are shit anyone should be able to afford. I'd much rather look like a wasteland extra than gear queer in debt, and I probably can't operate as efficiently but I can operate just as hard.

Why would somebody who has never known poverty post in a poorfag thread and expect to not be ridiculed?

>$800
Son you can get a p38/p1 for $600 or less fairly easily if you shop around.
>>
>>33987638
I'm not whoever you're responding to.
I live at home and my bank account is growing every month even though I spend what people use for rent towards guns and ammo. I have never overdrawn my account and pay all my credit card balances on time, pay for my own food and gas, and keep my living space reasonably clean. Despite this my parents think I'm irresponsible. I actually believed them for a time.

Moving out looks better and better every day. Sure I won't be able to spend as much on frivolous luxuries (ie guns) since I will have rent, but I have nearly everything I want at this point and I'm not really a compulsive buyer anyways.

If you have decent social skills you can make insane money bartending. I've had times where I've made my rent in one night. Granted those are pretty rare, but a couple of decent nights can set you up for the month. If you're good at putting money away, just stockpile cash (I use different envelopes for different funds, e.g. a gun fund, emergency savings, car fund, etc.) So after some time I bought various guns over the years. I'm saving now for an Aimpoint next, have about 300 in the fund right now
