I just got my C&R, I already have a mosin and I kinda wanna be a special snowflake in my circle of friends so I want an Arisaka. So type 38 or type 99? Any things I should know before I buy one, like late war ones blowing up or is that a myth?

>friends

who are you kidding?

last ditch are ussually ok. The difference in quality ends up being cosmetic. Those arisakas are good.Type 38 is supposed to be light shooting, while the 99 is much closer to a full power cartridge.
I recommend you reload for either. ammo cost is terrible if you don't
I have tried two at shops, and their triggers seems to be the downsides.

The earlier year the better. Get one with a chrysanthemum for extra snowflake points. Cry because ammo is hard to find and expensive. Fuck around with AA sights. Practice banzai charges

If you wanna be a real snowflake get a Type 30.

The Arisaka Type-38 is objectively the most aesthetic Japanese rifle.

Not OP here, but:

Two of my LGSes have Arisakas for sale. One is bubba'd with a cut-down stock but otherwise restorable for $200, and the other is un-bubba'd for $300. Both seem to be in fine shape mechanically. The bubba'd one's mum is still semi-visible, while the un-bubba'd one's mum is gone completely. I'd probably save money buying the un-bubba'd one rather than hunting down a stock and barrel bands for the bubba'd one, but I kind of feel bad for it and want to restore it, and an extra few bucks won't break the bank for me.

What do, /k/?

7.7 Arisaka is a lot easier to come across than it was just a few years ago. PRVI is only about a buck a round. If you're really hard up you can cut down .30-06 brass to length and resize it in a 7.7 die. I got away with it without ever annealing the case necks but my loads were very mild.

While uncommon, the Type 30 isn't that expensive. Usually between 400 and 700.

Now the carbines...
>>
>>33976536
Woah that's much less than I was expecting, I've never heard of a type 30 before now.

But that then raises the next question, if you can get a 30 for less than 700 then what a "good" 38 or 99 is worth. I was expecting to pay 400-500. Is that more than they're actually worth?

You can pick up a Type-38 or 99 sans-mum, mismatched, or missing small parts like dust cover, monopod, or AA sights for $250-350. It's only when they're complete and matching that Jap rifles bring high prices.
>>
>>33976577
You can get a fun shooter grade 38 for around 350 and a 99 around 300. Of course with 99s they can shoot up to over 1000 if they have all their little accoutrements and are all matching. A 38 will top out around 500 for all matching with a matching dust cover.
>>
>>33976416
an unmolested stock for an Arisaka is almost as expensive as the rifle as a whole. parts are very scarce. i paid 20 US dollars for a front sight blade for my Type 38
