Fuckin' this. Drops are too sparse in the starting area. Zombies are OP. Melee weapons that aren't a fire axe might as well not even exist. And the whole fucking thing lags like crazy despite super shitty graphics. The inevitable Mexican standoffs that happen when you meet a person become way too intense when changing your weapon or putting your weapon down takes 20 seconds to execute. Your only hope of survival is to be part of a large group, but trying to find your friends on a map and stick together is fucking impossible. And, again, more people on screen means even more lag.

So much potential if only they would work on optimizing SA's engine.

These games like dayz and h1z1 are great in theory, but the actual game just pisses me off.

Daily reminder that DayZ and all real virtuality engine-based games (ie. Arma) are NOT CPU limited as many claim, but are actually Harddrive limited. The majority of slow downs and glitches come from the fact that the real virtuality engine uses very large texture sizes that need to be retrieved quickly to prevent pop-up and stuttering.

After I put DayZ on my SSD I went from 15fps in Cherno to 60fps with occasional dips into the ~40fps in downtown. In the countryside or in villages I get a consistent 60-90fps and the game looks extremely fluid on my 144hz monitor; it looks and feels like entirely new game, even on my shit hardware. Hard Disks simply can't keep up.

There was a patch that fixed performance issues unless your running something with really low specs or very outdated
Melee accuracys better then it was before, even if a weapon takes 3-4 hits to kill a zombie you just have to hit them once to make them stumble then finish them
The mod was shit, but it was enjoyable because it was a new concept. Not surprising most people dont find standalone to be as enjoyable

Supposedly devs are completely remaking the game on a new physics engine. They don't add anything to the current game's form because there'd be no point to it seeing as it's all going to be deleted once the new game/engine is in a playable state. BUT this game's entire development has been a case study of "too little too late". People have been waiting patiently for 4 years for this pile to be in a playable state and have understandably given up that hope.

THAT SAID, some of my favorite DayZ moments happened in the SA. The mods are infinitely better, but the SA does have something to offer. Stairs and ladders aren't as deadly as they used to be too.

Did anyone here ever play DayZ Origins?

The extra shit they added in that mod made for one hell of a good time if you had a few friends to team up with, and exploring the updated Taviana map tended to be a lot more rewarding than wandering around Chernarus for the hundredth time.

The high rate of vehicle spawns also made it a lot less of a walking simulator. Shame that it's pretty much dead.
