Started formulating an M16A1 build for my first AR, how's it looking so far?
Parts kit
http://whatacountry.com/colt-m16a1-parts-kit.aspx

Lower (Have to settle for a barebones XM16E1)
http://nodakspud.com/AR%20Lowers.htm

Barrel
http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/gm-m15-m16-a1-5-56mm-20-1-12-twist-20-barrel/

Am I missing anything? Any suggestion/tips?
Also general repro/clone thread I guess
>>
be sure to get real original colt parts or internet gun autists will bully you
>>
>>33974280
Haven't found any, shit seems like its all gone or insanely expensive.
>>
>>33974259
Get on the waiting list for a NDS-16A1.

http://nodakspud.com/AR%20Lowers.htm

Gonna have to wait 9 months, but if you put that shit on an A2 lower we will bully you forever.
>>
>>33974295
That is the main problem with an A1 build. Do you build with the most authentic parts, or do you build something that is close enough. I would go the latter because I am a poorfag, and the parts don't matter to me.
>>
>>33974321
I'm going to agree with you. I have some money, but not enough to be able to get into obsessive detail about this thing.
>>33974317
>9 (nine) months
jesus
How is it worth it?
>>
>>33974343
Just get an anderson a2 lower. It has a horse on it. Close enough.
>>
>>33974343
>how is it worth it?

Let's see, here are you're options:

>poorfag out and build it on an A2 lower
>get bullied by anons and MilSurpDude on /k/ forever until you change it

or

>wait 9 months for NDS-16A1 to ship
>build it properly
>get nothing but compliments

seems like an easy choice to me
>>
>>33974343
Honestly going through the parts they look good, and you got the nonfenced mag release lower. Then you should go with the colt grey lower color if it matches the parts kit.
>>
>>33974370
>letting people on an anonymous Vietnamese tunneling board influence IRL decisions
>waiting 9 months just to not get called a poorfag by people on said tunneling board
Idk mang
>>33974395
I do like the look on the half-fenced lower. And I imagine that I can get it anodized by someone for a fair price, then just mill it like normal.
>>
clones are for reddit fags who only care about how their meme-15 looks and not how it functions. if your clone is only semi auto it's just as much of a clone as a m&p-15 is
>>
>>33974480
Trust me, you do not want to be bullied by /arg/. I'm just trying to keep you safe from the bully.

>>
>>33974584
so you unironically buy shittier parts because you like to play dress up. pretty fucking gay.

do you also buy shitty cars and shitty computers as long as they look cool?
>>
>>33974613
No, I just try to stay within my means. Go ahead and make a full-auto M16A1 clone and post it, I'll be waiting.
>>
>>33974317
up to 9 months now?
Fucking hell nodak, get your shit together
>>
>>33974259
I'm planning to do the same eventually. I'm probably just going to use a modern AR lower - a rifle that's close enough to fool the untrained eye is good enough for me. I don't hang out with autists, and I just want the aesthetic.
>>
Just make sure that you don't put a forward assist on it.
Those things are completely useless and add basically dead weight. In addition to that, the f/a actually makes the gun a lot more jam prone.
>>
Who cares what others think of your ar? If you love it isn't that enough?
I built a poorfag a1 clone and I love mine.

Yes it is, it's a shit company that overcharges for subpar products because all they have is a brand name.

All they do these days is ARs, 1911s and SAAs, none of which they're particularly great at, they've both been undercut and beaten in quality by their competitors.

The LE6920 is for senselessly brand loyal cucks.

SMART
>>
>>33979349
As someone who shoots ARs a shitload there is almost no chance that you'd have a FTF that wouldn't be okay to use the FA on. I know the lejamjambutton meme is popular with the kiddos these days but it kind of falls apart when you apply any degree of critical thought to it. I still can't get any decent description of why a round not feeding would be made catastrophic because you gave the BCG a little poke.
>>
>>33979414
If it's not going into battery, then change your springs.
>>
>>33976244
I'm new. CTD has good bulk ammo prices, no? Where should I be looking instead?
>>
>>33979470
guns.deals
(yes that is the address)
>>
>>33979465
Are you trying to say buffer spring? If you just make it stronger you're interfering with a variety of other things that could make your rifle an unreliable mess. It's also doing exactly what the FA already does; getting the round to feed when for some reason it isn't. Except with the spring proposal you're using brute force, instead of the rather light nudge the FA employs. That actually makes it more guilty of the whole "it just crams the bolt forward when it shouldn't be!" accusation anons like to throw around regarding the FA than the FA itself.

This is what I mean my shoddy explanations.
>>
>>33979414
If it's not going into battery, then aren't you riding the charging handle home?
>>
>>33979766
Since rounds are fed by more means than just the user racking the CH on a freshly loaded mag, no. The rifle could be a bit dry, the mag might me stingy with the first round, a round may have a bit of dirt on it etc etc etc

All of these scenarios are largely fixed by giving the BCG a light nudge, and doing so hardly leads to a rifle-killing jam.
>>

How does one go about milling an 80% lower? Looked it up online, and results were inconclusive. Specifically, I need the dimensions of the cut.
Would it be better to send it to a gunsmith or something to eliminate room for error? And does one mill all lowers using the same dimensions?
>>
>>33982860
If you don't know what you're doing, a gunsmith is a safe bet.
>>
>>33982860
1. You need the jig to do it, unless you are a *really* competent machinist.
2. You can't legally have someone else do the work, to fit the definition of a home made firearm, only you can work on it.
3.The fire control pocket is the same dimension internally on 5.56 vs. .308 ARs, but the external dimensions are different, so different jigs for each one.
4. It's way more work than you would expect, and relatively easy to fuck up.
5. If you do it, get an 80% that is already anodized, then just hit the milled out part with some spray paint to protect it. Applying a finish yourself usually ends up looking and performing like shit, and having a milled out 80% lower cerakoted is a pain and expensive in my experience. The local shop that did mine charged $80 each for the lowers I did, and I had to be there the entire time, which ended up being over four hours.
>>
>>33983019
Having a gunsmith do it is illegal? I always thought that that's right up their alley...
Oh well. This is the lower I'm looking at. I notice that it is missing the 3 holes that some others have. I imagine I'll have to drill those out as well with the jig? Sorry for the stupid questions
>>
>>33983450
My understanding is that in the eyes of the ATF, if someone else does the milling on it, it's no longer a homemade gun and must be assigned a serial number. All the 80% lowers I've seen require milling out the fire control pocket, trigger slot, and the trigger pin, hammer pin, and selector holes on the side. The jigs have guide holes on the side for this. I have a bench top mill and a drill press, so with some time and patience I was able to get basically professional results. I'll post a pic of my build lower when I get home.
>>
>>33983624
Ok. So any 5.56 jig would work for this?
And would it be better to mill it, then get it anodized, or anodize it THEN mill it?

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT oh holy fuck what a riot. You idiots are so self conscious that you care about the opinions of random tripfags on /k/? Actually, since when was it okay to be an attention-whoring little bitch tripfag? That's all the AR thread is, just a gathering of autists who think they need an identity to post on 4chan. Yeah bucko, you post your same dogshit AR builds every day, we don't really need to see your cute little username everywhere too. OP, just do what you want to do and don't let hivemind autists who desperately want to justify why they spent $500 on some garbage optics tell you otherwise. You have to realize 99% of the people dropping $2k+ on these builds don't even shoot past 250m because they are bush league trash. The AR is a toy to them, nothing more.
>>
>>33983680
Unless you want to go a different color besides black, I'd get one that has already been anodized. Like I said in my previous post, it adds a lot of time and expense to have a raw one finished.
>>
>>33983898
That's the catch though. All the lowers on Nodakspud are either sold out, or are just the raw unfinished ones. And sadly, I can't find anything else online. The ones already anodized on Nodak have a 6-9 month waiting time, and I don't think I can wait that long for just a lower.
