So a while back I was in my school's production of Beauty and the Beast in which I played Gaston. Now, in the opening song Gaston shoots a duck from the air (which is quite an impressive feat with a rifle) and when my director brought out the gun I couldn't put it down. I'm very interested in guns, especially from the world wars, so to get my hands on a Gewehr 98 was just incredible. My director isn't dense, so she noticed my obsession right away. Since it was my last high school play and I was obviously interested in it she gave it to me as a gift.
More pics soon.
that's fucking based. probably won't kill a lot of ducks with it though

>Mauser-brand Mauser
Fucking nice. Being a 1918 WF-Mauser w/ Turkish Crescent Moon on the receiver ring it was most likely sent to the Ottoman Empire as war aid during the last desperate months of the conflict; a sizeable percentage of 1918 WF-Mauser production went to Turkey in that last year.

That's awesome, OP.
I really like this gun and I love taking it apart and tinkering with it. Thing is, I need a new barrel since the end was plugged off to make it legal as a prop.

Plugged with what? Often they just soldered a rod in the bore, and with a little heat the solder can be melted and the obstruction removed. Take it to a gunsmith and let him have a look.

I do believe it is solder or some metal with a fairly low melting point. Thing is, I don't have a license so I'm afraid to go to a smith.

You're fine. You do not need a permit to merely own this rifle in NJ, and since it was a gift you did not purchase it. You can take it to a gunsmith no problem.

Aw sweet. Now to find a gunsmith in white suburbia...
>>33971084
What country are you in?
>>33971180
Here's a list of Federal Firearm's Licensees in NJ; you can search it by your zip code. Not all FFLs are gunsmiths, and not all gunsmiths necessarily have FFLs (or they might in NJ; IDK the full state laws) but it's a start and you might talk to people who can direct you to a person who can take a look at it.
Always eager to help out a fellow Gew.98 owner.
