It would do a lot of damage within 15 feet but past that placement and luck will determine effectiveness in terms of injuries. The picture is at a significant range, probably with a 2 3/4 shell. The question is how far do you expect to engage a target for HD? If it's across the room into the back door a more powerful load of even birdshot still has serious power. It still penetrates at least a few inches through skin at longer ranges and a huge wad of metal directed at a person's eyes could end an encounter.

Use what you want famalam. Use dragons breath, fuck it man. If you're inside of a house anything will do. Birdshot will actually fuck a motherfucker up at short range indoors, contrary to what /k/ says.

Use buckshot, if you are worried about over penetration use an AR with M193.

The only thing birdshot is good for shooting is birds. even then it would be more effective to hit them with buckshot but the hitting them part is the main problem.
