With its central location in the Med and various external threats becoming more clear including insurgents, renewed Russian agression and Turk tomfoolery Italy has been a billion dollars by a few NATO countries...The money is to be used to boost Italys naval capability and can be used to buy any naval assets from the following countries...England,USA,France,Germany..and try to do something about our Naval Air arm please...what do you buy?
Italy can build their own navy. They make the venerable 76mm OTO Melara thats exported everywhere, plus a ton of landing craft, and their own aircraft carrier.
They're a net exporter of naval systems.

i dont understand why italys navy is so big almost UK/france big but it doesnt have direct approach to ocean or any overseas naval deployments
>>33965042
wishfull thinking i guess...shrugs* italy is one of those places that has always had a good navy potential...but never really been able to fully capatilize on it

Italian navy dimensions is 100% fine, and even more so when taking into account their defense budget. What you need is not more hulls but the political will for more participation in international coalitions, performing ASW and AAW escort with the french carrier when it's at sea, or with multinational combined task forces in the middle-east. These past years it doesn't seem to me you did much more than glorified OPV work.
I bribe the enemy not to attack, as is standard procedure.
That sure is a pretty sweet refugee transport fleet you got there.

Italy has no political interest like that. Their interest is in the "enlarged mediterranean", which was defined as pic related.

Which, btw, is clearly still a WIP. To achieve that influence they need to complete the Navy renewal first. The FREMM program is almost done. Now it's just:
- waiting for F-35B on Cavour, build the LHD (possibly more than 1),
- replace the LPDs,
- build the PPAs,
- design a new submarine class (or buy from krauts again) to keep 8 subs
- finish building the LSS and get a second

This of course if they don't elect the five star movment, since their military spending program mostly consists of basicaly cancelling several military renewal program and sacking a lot of officers.

I am well aware of that and an M5S government would be pure nightmare. Luckily they don't want to rule and, even if they come as first party, they'd let others form a large coalition and rule instead. So they can bitch for 5 more years about muh direct democracy.

why
>>33968942
Why what?
>>33963726
>tfw Italy has the only fixed wing carrier in Europe at the moment
>tfw Italy has a better escort fleet than France
>tfw Italy is getting a better maritime fighter than France
Feels good.
>>33970122
Too bad you're not doing shit with any of that.
>>33970331
Don't see the CdG doing much of anything right now in that drydock.
>>33963726
>a billion dollars
>make retarded thread
>have no idea what ships cost these days
>>33970548
Didn't see the Cavour supporting operations in the middle east last year.
Oh wait no, you idiotic spaghettis were using it for operation Sofia. Enjoy your brown human wave.
I'd rather have the frogs at my back than you, even with their carrier in drydock.
>>33969301
why do the have interest in the "enlarged mediterranean"
>>33970801
They didn't support last year but they did in 2011 in Libya
>>33970868
Securization of trade routes and immediate sphere of influence, plus they got allies that take care of the areas further away.
