I'd like to buy a musket, do you guys have any advice?

I think I would like a Short Land Brown Bess, but I would be willing to consider others, percussion or flintlock. Budget is a maximum of $700, but if it's possible to get something good for cheaper, that's preferable

I've heard good things about Veteran Arms. They have a pretty big selection and all their stuff is ~600$.

Middlesex Village Trading Company also has a good selection and prices, but their wait list is absurd.

>tfw I placed an order for pic related from them back in January and I'm still on the wait list

>$700
gonna have to buy one used

But Veteran Arms has pic related for $640...

Even so, I'd be fine with used if I had no other option.

they look pretty farby, notably using the wrong brass nosecap for a SLP
>>
>>33958365
also it looks like they dont say where they get their barrels. theyve even shown up in forum threads and seem to purposely not address where they source them

loyalist arms made a bunch of BP stuff that blew up, owing to indian/paki barrels

just get a pedersoli and dont worry about buying an IED

Is the wrong nosecap all? That sounds like an easy fix...

I've heard a lot of the indian barrel explosion thing is a meme brought about by brain-dead reenactors overcharging their shots to produce big ebin smoke clouds.
>>
>>33958459
ive seen it happen IRL

even if that was the cause, which it isnt in my experience
>cant handle a 1.5x charge with no ball
>im going to shoot this thing live
smart

So does anyone actually own a Brown Bess from Veteran Arms that can tell me whether or not they're any good?

Also, is there another musket that might be better than an SL Bess? Maybe a Charleville or a Prussian gun?
>>
>>33958294
Shoot a musket first, a lot of people find them unpleasant and dangerous to fire.
>>
>>33959983
I don't know where I can get one without buying it myself, I don't know any reenactors or anything, adn even if I did they would likely only be Civil War reenactors because I live in South Alabama.
